In any self respecting first world country those records should not be available for anyone but the military service and possibly a court order.

Do you think there is a conceivable reason why the employers and school should have insight into those records?

My point was that it should never be allowed for these institutions to get those records.
How exactly can some schmuck force you to do something that will do severe damage to your health? Can't you just tell them to fuck off?
A lot of health problems don't immediately hurt.
He had to walk for like 15-20km with a heavy bag, with the hurt back, at which point he realized shit was fucked, and just fucked off.
Also, if you're an athlete, you can kiss your career goodbye if you need to do conscription
Compulsory service is fucking cancer, especially for countries such as Estonia.
If we ever go to a full-scale war, it is against Russia (even though its like 0.5% possibility during lifetime). Despite our readiness, Russia will fucking landslide through us within a day.

If you're a full-on serious professional athlete, you get a very basic "crash course" for like a month and a half, if I'm not wrong. One of my acquaintances did that.
Well as expected I don't have to go anywhere. (Got back from the event)
Arrived a little late, listened to some music and went home.
it didnt even feel like anyone was keeping tabs on anyone :v: i even went to the supermarket a few times
I don't understand why some people think they deserve some special treatment, people who trick their way out of their duties should get a criminal record.
But we have enough willing people going into the army every year. If someone don't want it so much that they trick their way out, they could just say that they have no desire to join, and that's generally enough.
I don't think people who have a planned education/goal that they are already in the process of doing should have to serve. However, if you have none of that and need some direction/a purpose/some money then perhaps this could benefit those others.
I don't really like the idea of conscription but like anything else there are both advantages/disadvantages I guess. I also understand that an all volunteer military might not work in every country, especially if there is no incentive to join. It's a shame some of the people in this thread seem to be incredibly aggressive towards the thought of military service.
For the record I've served as a US Navy Corpsman and a US Army Tank crewman so I have at least a slight idea of what I'm talking about.

Not everyone has an undying loyality and sense of duty to their country. I'm glad our conscription is a voluntary system in practice these days due to the requirements.
