Most things in Cataclysm didn't make sense.
My theory is that all the noobs who felt pro by clearing the easy mode Wotlk content are quitting because Cataclysm is suddenly "hard".
Also Gekkosan 2v2 1400 doesn't count.
Warcraft 3 was the best warcraft
frozen throne would have been a good ending to the series
No? There was so many more threads in the universe to tie up. Frozen Throne the expansion had a decent ending, but the Warcraft universe just ending at Warcraft 3 would have been a bit abrupt.
Not to mention they have had expansions for WoW planned out since 2003. Blizzard is playing the long game here, they clearly have an idea in mind for the universe.
The game should have ended with Arthas, nothing would live up to his hype.
i still can't believe they ended that with a half-assed cutscene that probably took 1 guy a couple of hours to complete
i mean really, we've been building up to Arthas for a long, long time and he finally dies, and they don't even bother making a CGI cutscene?
what the fuck

The main character of WC3 and its expansion TFT, ends up lol dead and doesn't even have a CGI scene, i've seen it. It's fucking horrible, you live the characters life, his road to damnation and his rise to becoming an unholy demi-god, and what? for a scene that barely lasts 2 minutes? Fuck.
Not to mention he was basically fucked anyways even though he should've won in the raid encounter, freezes the "Holy Savior" Tirion Fordring and he kills all the raid characters IN A SINGLE FUCKING WIPE and says he was toying with you, and that you're his new lieutenants of the scourge, suddenly deus ex machina Tirion magically breaks his barrier and yells "LOL NOPE."

As a former WoW player I support this message.
Well, they kept relying on the lore the Warcraft games established, most notably Warcraft 3, so it's only natural that at some point they'd run out of material. They came up with new material, sure, but it lacks the backstory of the original game (and it told, as overused as that word is on the net, a pretty epic story).
Tho I wonder if them developing a convincing Warcraft 4 that could keep the lore supply steady would've been the big solution. After all, there are plenty of people playing that don't know all too much about the law and are there for the gameplay, so apparently something must be wrong there, too: Either WoW's gameplay got worse or that of the competition got better.
I mean, WoW is infamous for the dry fetchquests and kill-10-x-quests, but it never stopped people from playing the darn thing. So I guess just better alternatives popped up? And with the F2P/itemstore combo (which in the past has always been a sign of a certain breed of crappy games with money-hungry developers, ironically) I'd say the competition will only get bigger.
I think its kinda funny that 600000 people is a panic for them but my 2 MMO's, Eve onle and Dark Orbit, have maybe two thirds of that put together.

600k is still alot of people, even it the mmo has like 20million people.

Not really accurate even if it is funny.. the old vanilla wow areas had terrible quest design that was inconsistent with the new style of BC and Wrath quests. It was more like.. "Kill 50 things to get 10 things" in the past and the changes made it so you could level up much faster while including some of the new phasing shit so it was a much better designed system.
That said I think what's driving people away is the lackluster raid and dungeon content. There simply isn't enough of it, and they need a new end game formula. People are getting bored and leaving.
SWG Pre-CU was the best MMO ever to come into existence. End of story.
I feel like people would only really enjoy Pre-CU if they played it before NGE, I played post-NGE, and when I played the emulator (perhaps the emulator just sucks right now, this is a massive possibility) it was just...boring.
I was thinking to try WoW out. then I got myself a second eve account.
Whelp. Back to Ultima Online.
Everyone knows that next expansion "Mists of" something or rather... Will be their last one, thus they're gonna lose players when Blizzard content caps, but they have the Titan project still in the works, which is a whole new MMO. WoW may lose its players, but Blizzard does not.
What they should have done was taken everything that made BC and vanilla WoW great and added improvements and got rid of annoying things, not delete most of their old content. But of course it's all about FOLLOW THE MONEY for blizzard now-a-days.
My friends and I are mostly over the endgame pvp and we're making 60 twinks now.

no pretty sure they will complete their goal of 5 expansions and then their new mmo will come out
they still have 11 million subscribers do you realize this? even 2 expansions later, it's highly unlikely theyll lose even half of htose numbers and even if they did 5-6 million subscribers is still a ridiculous amount of profit for an MMO
MMO's only need like 500k subscribers to be successful. Or make some cash, at least.
this is why lately I've been playing on 2.4.3 private servers
everything turned to shit after the hype of wrath died down, I still think that it's a good game but not as good as it could be
cancelled my subscription when Blizzard starting sending me emails threatening legal action if i didn't stop trying to sell my account
funny thing is I haven't played for 2 years so how the fuck does that make any fucking sense at all
I guess good ol' bobby koticks aura is starting to effect this game too.
I too left after a month on Cataclysm. Sadly I started playing shortly after WOTLK was released and never got to experience vanilla or Burning Crusade to it's fullest. I still enjoyed the game and really loved the lore and landscapes (The Barrens and Ashenvale especially). Cataclysm was fun leveling, but endgame kind of sucked and the new zones lacked that lore and magic the older ones had.
I canceled the Halloween after Burning Crusade was released. They've invited me back a number of times now with account re-activations and trials and such but I honestly couldn't find anything to do. I stopped taking them seriously when they introduced a class called the "Death Knight" with a straight face.
WoW is fucking boring
how anybody got past level 40 without quitting I don't even know
SWG was where it was at though

Death Knights are as old as Warcraft 2, I dunno what the problem is.

I couldn't get past level 26 in SWG because it was basically the same thing as WoW without fluid controls or direction.
The last time I played WoW, I spent up all my gold on beer to get wasted at the fountain in Stormwind. Then I destroyed all my items, and tried to run instances naked.
I used to have a lot of fun in the game, honestly. But I quit before Cata got released. It just seemed the game was going in a direction I didn't enjoy. And it got boring after my second level eighty.
Atmosphere wise, I've always thought LotR:O was better.
I think we're finally seeing the traditional MMORPG fantasy die out in popularity.
