It should go without saying that the only people responsible for sexual misconduct are the perpetrators. If you think you're the victim of a crime though, and you wait 34 years to report it, that part's on you.

I don't think you understand, roy moore is the real victim here

You’d probably have a different opinion if you’d ever suffered through a sexual assault.
Also, stop trying to pass yourself off as some objective pragmatist. Your first post shows plain and clear how you rushed to judgment on this. You’re not fooling anyone.

Good god you have clearly not ever, ever, ever spent time with victims of sexual assault. It's made incredibly apparent.

That's a rather broad generalization to make of sexual assault victims, don't you think? You're putting me in a very difficult and uncomfortable position with these sorts of assertions, and I'm sure you could understand how someone who perhaps did claim victimhood of such an intensely private violation might be put in a similar position. I won't go into detail about it further because the thread isn't about me, but you might think a bit more critically before making these kinds of posts in the future.
[editline]don't press further on the above topic. please.[/editline]
On topic, here's a pertinent snip from the article:
In Alabama, the statute of limitations for bringing felony charges involving sexual abuse of a minor in 1979 would have run out three years later, and the time frame for filing a civil complaint would have ended when the alleged victim turned 21, according to Child USA, a nonprofit research and advocacy group at the University of Pennsylvania.
Corfman never filed a police report or a civil suit.
If I'm reading this correctly, it looks like there would be no way for the state to really investigate these charges except by some legislative action. Admittedly I'm not familiar with Alabama law; am I getting this right?

Oh quit fucking around. You yourself made a retarded suggestion that if someone waits to speak about the crime committed, that they're lying.
Broad generalization to make, huh? Isn't it?
Nobody gives dicksauce about how uncomfortable you are. Do you think she's lying or not? Do you think it's automatically a lie for people to wait to speak about how they were ridiculed?
For god's sake you voted for a man who gladly brags about sexual assault, and a party that doesn't take it seriously.
[editline]9th November 2017[/editline]
If you're so upset and willing to say "Oh but man that's a private violation and important to the victim man" then why do you think that it's okay to say "Yeah but it's on them for waiting so long lol who cares"
Seriously get some goddamn perspective Chonch, for fuck's sake its embarrassing.
[editline]9th November 2017[/editline]
You are clearly thinking that this person is a lair right off the bat, considering that you are doing anything in your power to try and make Moore out to be some fucking saint, as made apparent by this post.
A real character, this guy. Certainly not doing himself any favors with the news media.
Why? Why do you have to go and defend someone so vile? Even without the allegations the man is a horrendous individual and a fucking disgrace to American politics. Why?
Is it because you agree with his views? Do you?

Don't dick me around with "Back on topic" You know what I'm saying is on topic.

You regularly post ignorant comments and expect not to be called out for it. You should be feeling a bit uncomfortable, frankly. Seeing as you’re such an expert on thinking critically, you might put 2 and 2 together and keenly deduce that people don’t appreciate your condescending, equivocating, BS attitude, especially when you’re blaming victims of sexual assault. Your thinly-veiled partisan apologia isn’t fooling anyone.
For survivors, coming forward can be painful. They may feel shame and embarrassment about what happened. With all the confusion, unresolved emotions, and public backlash, you can’t blame a survivor for staying silent. It’s not “on them” anymore than it’s the fault of a stabbing victim for bleeding.
The moral thing the GOP could do is pressure Strange (R) to run on a write-in campaign since I doubt Moore will drop out.
Doug Jones is such a respectable man though, I really hope Alabamians give him a chance.

Bob Menendez is a US senator currently under felony charges for bribery, fraud, conspiracy, violating the travel act, and lying to investigators. It's a pretty huge deal. No senator has been put under official bribery charges since 1982. (https://www.politico.com/story/2017/09/05/robert-menendez-trial-senate-new-jersey-242333)

While I agree that corruption and bribery is something the news media has a big responsibility to report, and failing to properly cover such a story is a failure in their duty to the public, it's hardly surprising that a pedophile is making much bigger waves than a crook, given the US's weird prudishness when it comes to anything sexual. Besides which, Roy moore's one of the biggest holier-than-thou hypocrites out there, and a very vocal asshole besides. There's nothing the American public loves so much as to see a dirtbag forced to eat dirt, so the story's perfect for the media.

Not to defend Menendez, of course, I frankly think he's a criminal, and it's a shame that it seems like he's going to get off from the charges and run for reelection. But it's less a matter of bias as much as it is that the media, and public in general, gets much more riled up about stories of sexual misconduct than corruption stories. Also a lot easier to explain, "hey this guy touched a kiddie," than the series of actions and pressures that someone applies to flow tax money to a friend of their's.
It's also worth pointing out that it was reported by multiple media outlets earlier this year that Roy Moore 'accidentally' forgot to disclose 500k that he was paid for work by a charity, which would've totaled more than 100k in taxes had he not 'forgot.' But that story didn't get that much more traction either, just because Americans don't seem to either care or be able to process corruption or tax evasion stories as well as they can sexual misconduct stories.

Said the man with absolutely no concept of what sexual abuse does to a person. The very nature of the assault makes it hard to come forward. You fear judgment, accusations, harassment, and victim blaming -- much like you're doing now. The shit you're saying is helping nobody but rapists.

I assumed he was talking about Menendez's alleged scandal with underage prostitutes that several outlets refused to carry because it was unsubstantiated and, later, proven false. Every mainstream source I searched for carried/continues to carry the bribery story, including the outlets that refused to carry the alleged sexual scandal. If Shapiro is talking about the bribery thing then he is full of shit, and the fact that someone doesn't recognize his name proves literally nothing.
