What's next? Paying for game trailers?

Paying for screenshots
Paying for screenshots
Probably that.
So that's what the "premium downloadable content" for pre-ordering Just Cause 2 was...
Lol when they started to get good they just go downhill in 1 second
Best case scenario: Person buys your product and goes "Sure, I guess I'll buy the whole game"
Most likely scenario: Person buys your product, and goes "Cool, but I'm not buying the same game twice"
Worst case scenario: Person buys your product, and goes "That was terrible, I'm not buying your product"
Absolute worst case scenario: Person doesn't buy anything.
From a marketing standpoint, it makes sense. Your avid fans will shell out extra to play the game early, and if they don't like the demo, they will still have paid for it. People who weren't gonna buy the demo are unlikely to buy the full game either.
Either way, you make more money.
That is unless people abhor the concept itself, and don't buy anything, but then they're still likely to buy the actual full game.
Paying for screenshots
Its a thing called xbox live. Go try it.
In all seriousness. HOW can EA be this fucking stupid? This is a horrible idea. My only hope is that it drains their income to such an extent that they have to go bankrupt. EA just needs to die now. They were actually making good decisions, but this and the DRM bullshit reminds me of what fucking idiots they are. Congratz EA you succeeded in making me like you, and also succeeded in making me hate you again. I hope you writhe in poverty you bunch of ignorant fucks.
Very long game demos would probably invalidate many possible full game sales they may have.
Game demos should be free and short, just to give a taste and make a person want more out of it. But you don't want to give them too much or they won't feel satisfied when they buy the full product. This in-between step seems really odd to me.
Renting games.
Knowing EA I bet it would be:
Spore 2 - £60
Spore 2 demo - £80
:downs:
They had better not even think of making a spore 2.
The crap that happened with the first was just... unforgivable. Their patches didn't fix anything, they just added more broken things.
At least from what I gather. I never really had a problem with my spore (although i never patched it). It was just crap compared to the gdc07 (i think) video.
I lost my faith in EA Games a year ago. Now they pull even more shit?
Oh boy, EA just keeps getting better.

We already have this, it's called episodic content.
It's like they're trying to be assholes. And they're doing quite good!
Fuck, I started to like EA with BC2 again, now this :saddowns:
EA's directors need to wake up.
lol like anyone is gonna rent them
Fixed for you.

Like DICE for it. Sure, they're an EA studio, but they aren't the same EA that thinks all this BS is a good idea.
I'm taking this news with a grain of salt for one reason. Michael Pachter. The World's worst analyst.
Hey EA:

Are they completely insane?
It's a stupid article. Essentially what EA want to do is release a smaller game with a similar theme and style of gameplay to the full game (i.e. Battlefield 1943) before it's release. They aren't going to make you pay for regular demos like the title/article makes it sound like.
Actually from the from the sound of the article its sounds more like they want to make more games like Battlefield 1943. And if they sell well they will make a full scale game. Kind of like Valve and Portal.
Are they completely insane?
No there fucking rich and think they can do anything they want.
Like DICE for it. Sure, they're an EA studio, but they aren't the same EA that thinks all this BS is a good idea.
I love DICE, but it seemed that EA is supporting them with quite a lot of stuff (taking securom out of the steam version, free DLC, a huge beta, the EA-servers they upgraded for them). Just seemed like they've changed directions.
They're kicking arse and taking names... and they're all out of names...
:froggonk:
I would have paid a dollar or two to play the Just Cause demo without a time limit
I would pay a little for a "Lite" version of a game like Just Cause, GTA or Bad Company 2, to be honest.
But I'm pretty paranoid, I'd probably only do it over an escrow setup like the Microsoft Points system, or through Steam.
Oh come on, don't make every other company follow EA...

"Hey guys! Did you hear that EA is making their customers to pay for demos?"
"Really? lol!"

Ok. That's it. I'm done. Mass media has gone totally through the drain. Everything sucks. EVERYTHING. Only a few indie studios have managed to maintain integrity. And even most of them are corrupt as fuck.
From now on, I will only watch youtube. It's atleast free.
