EA Planning to charge for "extended demos," regular demos will still be free

And they were doing so well for a while, trying new IPs instead of just sequels and Madden. Then they decide to start smoking crack, copy the worst anti-piracy since dongles, and then this.
I will not feel guilty if I ever pirate their shit. First, they'll have to make something worth stealing.
Why would you pay $10 for 20% of a game and then $50 for the other 80% of the game? You're paying an extra $10 for being an impatient prick.
I bet they're just doing this to use it as an excuse to not make any more PC games. Pricks.
Are they stupid? People won't pay for the whole game, and they now expect them to pay for a DEMO?! That goes against the very definition of demo!

ID Software would be my first guess, but they haven't released anything new and innovative in years.
EA: We Will Not Charge For "Traditionally Free Game Demos"
Electronic Arts tells Kotaku that while they're exploring different downloadable game strategies, they do not plan to charge gamers for "traditionally free game demos."
The clarification comes after word hit via analyst Michael Pachter's visit to Electronic Arts, that the company planned to grow their digital game business in part by release what EA called "premium downloadable content" on the Playstation Network and Xbox Live for $10 to $15. Pachter described that content as "essentially be a very long game demo, along the lines of 2009's Battlefield 1943." The "full-blown packaged game" would later be released at a full retail price.
EA Group General Manager Nick Earl told Pachter during the recent meeting that the strategy would allow the company to limit the risk of marketing the full game and would "serve as a low-cost marketing tool."
Responding to request for comment, EA's Jeff Brown said that the publisher and developer is working on a "number of projects for delivering premium content to consumers before, during, and after the launch of a packaged-goods version of the game."
"EA SPORTS, EA Games and EA Play are each experimenting with download strategies that deliver fresh game content in formats players want to experience," he writes. "To date, there is no set pricing strategy for the entire EA portfolio. And many of the proposals include free-to-play content on models similar to Madden Ultimate Team, Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield 1943."
"None of the proposals" Brown wrote, "call for charging consumers for traditionally free game demos."
Speaking at the Game Developer's Conference earlier this month Ben Cousins, general manager of free to play Battlefield Heroes, told a gathering of designers that EA is becoming increasingly interested in free-to-play or "freemium" games.
Patcher's wrong... again
EA has taken back the crown from Activision.
Just when EA was starting to get good again.
Well I guess what goes up, must come back down.
Except for ValvE though, they messed with the Sv_gravity and keep goin up.
EA can't "make" you pay for anything.
It's lame but I don't see why anyone would get outraged about it, just don't buy the demos.

If they sell demos, what next, sell screenshots too?
So they either don't provide demos at all, or make us pay for them. That's bullshit.
This is really insulting, they think we're stupid enough to buy in to something completely crazy like this. The only demos i could imagine paying for are the ones that come in a magazine. But then, you're really only paying for the magazine and getting a free demo disk.
what the fuck man.
Looks like they're making us pay for unfinished games
Nothing much different since most today's games feel unfinished and short.
What the FUCK EA
I just started to like you again too

No.
DICE did a great job with BC2.
EA are the fucktards who fucked up the online experience by forcing the players to use its bullshit EA Online service and Punkbuster.

Ubisoft, I'd say.
Yeah, no one's going to buy these EA.
I'm surprised that Activision didn't come up with this first. Kotick's probably firing his whole marketing crew as we speak.

just sad EA...just sad
EA's no prize. It's a whore. A mad-dog capitalist for the highest bidder. Just remember your new identity. It'll keep you alive.

What is Fuck Shit Up? I know I read a thread about it awhile ago.
Charging money for samples of a full game.. It's not like EA has consistently released demos with all their games or anything, but now charge to use them?

Can this be added to the OP to avoid further confusion?
I guess that clears up things.
EA is simply being dumb now
Sooner or later EA will just start charging by the level. Or, better yet, just program in a meter and charge by the minute.
-Paying for demo..
-Paying for high graphics..
-Paying to use Y axis on your mouse..
This chronologically leads to the worst idea ever: [sp]PAYING TO ATLEAST PLAY THE GAME[/sp]

Wait what
EA is trying to compensate for the nuking the awesomeness of Command and Conquer.
Again, Greed is the main motive for anyone to do anything these days. Everyone just wants to get a little bit deeper and deeper into your pockets... eventually people are going to say Nope that's enough, see ya and then they won't be in anyone's pockets at all and finally fuck off into Bankruptcy
Lets think up entertaining names for these! xPreview, iPreview
I never understood why companies do this.
Wouldn't you earn more/more stable money if you actually cared about your customers instead of riddling shitty games with shitty drm and then selling demos?
Look at valve, I'll buy their shit in no time, while EA's I have to think if I really want it, and now I am not sure if I want it.
