Azerus is a pretty awesome program.
Ill just stick to using 2.0.4, the last non shit version.
oh come on
don't you all think you owe them atleast something for the majestic game they've given you for ages
Maintaining the client and its website, support forums, etc costs money.
The software isn't a machine, you don't need to "maintain" it- I see no reasons why it would need to update anymore. Yes, the forums might cost money, but are they even really needed?

Put ads on the forums or website then.
frostwire ;)
Vuze is far better than utorrent so this isnt an issue really.
frostwire ;)
I remember when I used to use that ages and ages ago.
So you guy use their service for free without giving them any financial support or any donations and then when then add advertisements to make money you throw a shitfit?
Holy shit talk about self-entitlement.
no it's when they make them unskippable surveys that cover the entire window
fuck off your high horse, you do this in every thread.
I remember when I used to use that ages and ages ago.
It was good before they decided it'd be a good idea to switch from a music/application search engine and downloader in one to a bittorrent clinic.
I wish limewire was still around..
jesus christ golden, who took a shit in your cheerios
News comes out that uTorrent is going to put ads in their client, everyone says they're just going to stop using it, and then you have a shitfit about how everyone is an entitled asshole and should shut up.
Do we have to be okay with everything that a company does just because the product is free? It's like if Ashens or Egoraptor or someone you like on youtube started releasing shittier videos and everybody went "yeah they're kinda shitty now, I think I'll unsubscribe", would you go around and say "entitled cunts how dare you have an opinion on free content and express it in an area dedicated to talking about said content you should be ashamed"
people are always going to have opinions when things happen and if you don't want to hear people's opinions on something so badly don't read the thread.
I jumped ship to Transmission a while ago now. Didn't think they'd ever pull this shit though.
been looking for an excuse to switch for ages. I'm getting tixati or something

keeping a software up to date, fixing bugs, and making improvements so that your product remains relevant is like.. really important
even though you can go back and use an old version of utorrent that isn't supported anymore it's still always better to be able to update and maintain a software. as long as "featured torrents" aren't malicious and their placement isn't obnoxious and confusing i don't have a problem with the people who made a software i consider sorta vital to my everyday computing experience making some money
[editline]12th August 2012[/editline]
or at least breaking even i mean sheesh
Welp, even less of a reason to update uTorrent...not that I had any in the first plce. I'm perfectly happy with my Version 1.8 client. Stable, maxes my net out, never puts a foot wrong.
Also, fuck ads. I hate 'em. so annoying.
Well, time to find a new torrent client.
edit:
Any recommendations?
Just keep using your current version. You don't have to update it just because there's a new version out. My uTorrent install is two or three years old and equally out of date, yet it works just fine.

Being able to doesn't mean you need to. I believe "If it ain't broke don't fix it" applies to software just the same as it does to lawn equipment and the like. If my software works just fine I'm not going to update it. No need to. If it's broken and the update fixes it, however, then yeah, I'll update it, providing said update doesn't break more shit in the process.
uTorrent has never failed me so I'll keep using it since I don't mind ads.
They are probably promoting torrentors to actually purchase with money products that are relevant to what you download.

Yea, Utorrent generally fixes bugs, adds features, and fixes security vulnerabilities they find in the program.
It isn't just like they stick a new number onto the name periodically, they actually maintain their software.

As long as ads are relevant to me, and I have the choice to block ads I don't like, I really don't care.
I'm fine with being advertised to as long as it doesn't feel forced or obnoxious.

And my old client isn't broken. So why should I update it if the one I have already works better than expected? It never crashes, never corrupts downloads, barely uses any resources at all, and it can download faster than my net can support so it's not like they can give me any speed boosts.

You don't have to update it. It's recommended, but it's totally optional.

So basically you've said absolutely nothing relevant, then.

I'm saying they legitimately maintain their product, whether you want to use the new version or not is your problem.

ok? so don't update utorrent, use the old version. but don't blame the utorrent devs for wanting to continue to improve their product and try to bring you a better torrenting experience
[editline]12th August 2012[/editline]
nobody cares about whether you update or not we're talking about the developers choosing to maintain their product ..
ok? so don't update utorrent, use the old version. but don't blame the utorrent devs for wanting to continue to improve their product and try to bring you a better torrenting experience
The only way they could do that would be to convince ATT to give me the speeds I pay for. That's a bit out of their jurisdiction.
V1.8 is the perfect torrent client. They need do nothing more. And ads in the client, any sort of ads, will make my experience worse, so if anything this update is a step backwards for me.
I'm saying they legitimately maintain their product, whether you want to use the new version or not is your problem.
And if you go and read all of my original post you'll see that I note it's nice that they do so.
why does nobody on FP ever read the entire post before they reply?
Because when I want to torrent something I sure want to be paying the MPAA in ad revenue.
stick it to the man by not paying for videogames and movies
that'll show them

nobody cares about you or your favorite client
Wonder if I could get Transmission running in Windows somehow.
Wonder if I could get Transmission running in Windows somehow.
You're not getting my point.
You were saying there is no reason to update. I said that they legitimately update and maintain their service.
I don't care if you update or not, but it isn't like they are just releasing the same version all the time.
I've always used Vuze/Azerus and preferred it to utorrent, It's lightweight and runs in Java.
