• HL3 CONFIRMED? Valve accidently releases hl3.txt with DOTA 2 patch

Valve employees are probably going "watch this, they'll go crazy over anything these days" *names random file hl3.txt* "Those idiots will actually discuss this somewhere"
Jesus christ, you gave me a heart attack. Best bet is that it's something they tried working on and scrapped it, figured no harm would come of spilling a txt. In fact, its probably that source 2 was built up with hl2 terms, but used them for other games. Basically flags.
Considering Dota 2 is on the new source engine, I wouldn't doubt that they had some preliminary half life sequel work on the new engine, meaning that this probably doesn't mean anything.

Its a bit of a toss up. Valve is much more about just throwing things at the community these days with little warning. Historically it would be a bad business move, but a title like Half-Life has perpetual hype and energy behind it. Not to mention how even subconsciously people are always looking for something new about Half-Life. The sudden release of a new Half-Life title would absolutely make news in every circle of gaming, they wouldn't need to market it whatsoever. It could make people apprehensive about buying it because they have little time to actually see what is new or different, to have in-depth reasons to buy. On the other hand, the shock may also be enough to make people impulsively purchase. I wouldn't expect them to announce it a year ahead of time though. It'd be at most six months ahead.
No, they just lend to each other. What is your post even trying to do?
saying it might be open world quest based seems like an extreme far cry not that it's totally impossible but that text doesn't really say that at all. it so easily could be generic characters like the crane woman or Mossman open world is so far away from what HL is, it just seems like a wild theory.
saying it might be open world quest based seems like an extreme far cry
I chuckled. :v:
A lot of these seem to be copy/pasted from Episode 2 and a lot of other source games, but some things appear to be unique/
CHelpEntry { string m_Id = "Attribute.npc_turret_ceiling_pulse.suck_position" string m_FriendlyName = "Vortex Position" string m_TooltipOverride = "" string m_HelpText = "Position for the sucking vortex." },
A turret that sucks things into a vortex? Huh...
Please be an ARG like when portal2 came!
This could be something minor, Valve fucking with us, or their own method of keeping interest. We literally have no way of telling unless more shit pops up. Also wow, hype aversion means nothing with how many people are viewing this topic just to HL3 being mentioned in the title

suckaroo
[editline]9th October 2015[/editline]
I thought "Invincible Hunter" would be something from ep2, referring to the hunter that [sp]almost killed Alyx[/sp]
What kind of file name is hl3.txt?
what kind of name is hl2.txt?
What kind of file name is hl3.txt?
Probably their "Default" text file name for games in source 2, unless changed specifically. That or someone at the office is super creative and was throwing shit in like "lol check it out, combine that shoots watermelons"
why would valve release this to "fuck with us" that does nothing but hurt their PR
Man, imagine the egg on their faces if this was actually a slip up on their part :v:
Uhhhh, episode 2 was released in the 10th of October, 2007. That'd be exactly 8 years. Coincidence? I think not.
Please be an ARG like when portal2 came!
Oh my god I would love this. How would it work though? We already know it would be HL3
why would valve release this to "fuck with us" that does nothing but hurt their PR
How does this hurt their PR?
Uhhhh, episode 2 was released in the 10th of October, 2007. That'd be exactly 8 years. Coincidence? I think not.
That's... a rather salient point. Probably relevant, but nothing significant beyond that.
Oh my god I would love this. How would it work though? We already know it would be HL3
I dunno. They could hint at Portal again or Left 4 Dead, only to strike with Half-Life. Even with the attempts to separate Portal 2 from Half-Life thanks to the indiscriminate timeskip, the Borealis is still an important plot element Episode 2 had been angling towards.
why would valve release this to "fuck with us" that does nothing but hurt their PR
they didn't release it on purpose
why would valve release this to "fuck with us" that does nothing but hurt their PR
Leaving the series that made them big on a cliffhanger for 8 years should hurt their PR as well, but everyone still gets all hyped up when they see files related to something that's probably a pet project of maybe 20 people. Like midlife crisis boat sitting in garage half finished until the creator finally decides to scrap it.
How does this hurt their PR?
Releasing a fake HL3 file would just remind people about HL3, and raise their expectations of the game coming out, which means more bad PR when they continue not to release it.
they didn't release it on purpose
I know that, I'm saying that the people in the thread who think it's a fake made by Valve just for shits and giggles are talking nonsense.
Uhhhh, episode 2 was released in the 10th of October, 2007. That'd be exactly 8 years. Coincidence? I think not.
except today is the 9th
except today is the 9th
Not in australia
It was probably released on purpose, feels very unlikely that a file called hl3 would just slip through into a dota 2 update accidentally.
I could see it happen accidently. I know that I make mistakes like that as well and Valve employees are just humans afterall.
Not in australia
Valve isn't in australia
