• HL3 CONFIRMED? Valve accidently releases hl3.txt with DOTA 2 patch

I'm convinced Valve does this on purpose every few months.
I bet you in about 1 week-1 month time the media will get a hold of it and start saying that they found it first. Although, It could also be something similar to the source engine, how it has hl2 references everywhere. Maybe source2 had to update everything to hl3 because it's new and all. But that could just me being dumb and too optimistic.
whatever this is, there probably will come nothing out of it, so why care really No need to go through files on related company games just to create paranoia, until Valve announces it, this shit is irrelevant
I dunno, its pretty odd how they "accidentally" pushed that file in the DotA update.. I mean for all we know they are doing this on purpose to spark up the flame again to see what people will do with it and how much the news will spread to measure if people are still onto Half Life 3.

I think they have been saving HL3 for one or two reason next gen ( which is now ) or when Steam Machine comes,.
The worst part about this is that it's probably a meaningless file and we aren't going to hear anything remotely related to HL3 for another two years.
Yeah it's not real, don't get your hopes up.
Yeah it's not real, don't get your hopes up.
I wont but I do feel they been waiting for next gen ( which is now ) or the steam machine to release date for HL3
Yeah it's not real, don't get your hopes up.
um, yes it is real...? it's not a leak. it's a filename in one of valve's actual files. there are many references to half life creatures in the code and the name of the file is hl3.txt.
"Real" as in noteworthy or proof of anything. I understand it's an actual file but this has happened so often without anything coming out of it, I don't see what makes this any different.
I thought "Invincible Hunter" would be something from ep2, referring to the hunter that [sp]almost killed Alyx[/sp]
Nine years later and we're still spoiler tagging something that happens in the first chapter?
At this point even if they announced half-life 3 i still wouldn't believe they're making half-life 3. I probably won't ever believe until there is some in-game footage of it.

I mean I am more likely to think it's a conspiracy and all my friends and internet is involved in it to troll me specifically rather than believe it's actually out.
I'm curious as to how HL3 would be like if it was released Open world or linear?
I'm curious as to how HL3 would be like if it was released Open world or linear?
I hope linear, because open world would probably be like "fortify rebel base #1", "defend rebel base #2", and general resistance quests and stuff like that
I hope linear, because open world would probably be like "fortify rebel base #1", "defend rebel base #2", and general resistance quests and stuff like that
If they went the open world route it would be because they have good ideas for it. This is Valve and HL3 we are talking about here. I doubt they would let it be an generic open world game.
string m_Id = "Element.prop_zipline" string m_FriendlyName = "prop_zipline" string m_TooltipOverride = "" string m_HelpText = "prop_zipline"
A zipline? Oh boy, here we go guys.
A zipline? Oh boy, here we go guys.
If HL3 was just a crowbar ziplining simulator, I'd still buy it.
I hope linear, because open world would probably be like "fortify rebel base #1", "defend rebel base #2", and general resistance quests and stuff like that
Valve has said they don't make "super classic" products anymore. If anything this is probably an attempt to turn Half-Life into some kind of F2P MMO thing, since that seems to be the direction Valve is going with its games the past few years. Of course, this probably won't amount to anything either way. Remember the 7 hour war-themed TF2 files people found years ago?

I don't care if they do that with CS:GO, TF2 and DOTA 2, but Half-Life is not something that would work well with. Plus the fans for CS:GO/TF2/DOTA 2 are completely different than Half-Lifes.
I wouldn't mind an open-world Half-Life. I guess it'd work kind of like Fallout in a sense, but with vehicles to traverse the environment. Like the buggy, or airboat. As long as the story is still there and it's as good then it's fine by me.
Didn't this happen with years ago Alien Swarm as well? Something about an EP3 blob.
Half life is not and should not be an open world game.
If it ends up being open world + online with micro transactions - I won't even bother.
If it ends up being open world + online with micro transactions - I won't even bother.
But what about spending real money to insure your rebel base against players who invade you while you're offline.
Nine years later and we're still spoiler tagging something that happens in the first chapter?
Not everybody is up-to-date on every game.
well cant be worse than purchasable cosmetics for a 2-player co-op game that doesnt even show up when playing against a console player
One is P2W, the other one is just a bad cosmetic.
