• HL3 CONFIRMED? Valve accidently releases hl3.txt with DOTA 2 patch

Was reading something on Valvetime:
lights.txt Here there are definitions for how some of the lighting behavior works. There’s your typical definitions for angles, offsets, targets, colors, light types… But then there’s new “Realistic Day/Night Cycle” attributes that can be adjusted by time, date, timezone, and length of the day. -------------- So, it’s important to realize that there’s absolutely no information as to exactly when or where these definitions come from. Meaning some or all definitions could be years old, used in some early iterations of projects that may or may not have died internally at Valve. Or, these are precisely what Valve is using, today, in some future title. Stay tuned as always...
Every Source Mappers dreams have come true.
[sp]Professor Oak gives you a Pokémon[/sp] Hey, not everyone is up to date on every single game. :downs:
wow are you actually so daft do you seriously not understand the point hes trying to make or are you just being a cock munch for the heck of it [editline]9th October 2015[/editline] just because i cba to have this conversation a second time already
nah you can discuss it whenever you want, just spoil tag that shit. not a difficult concept, yet people seem to screw it up. "a bloo hoo hoo, i have to type [sp] and [/sp] in my post. you should have played the game so i dont have to" is literally the dumbest (and only) argument anyone has against it. [editline]21st September 2015[/editline] like literally nobody is saying "dont talk about spoilers". youre being told to put them in spoiler tags so you arent a massive douchebag to someone that doesnt know that subject yet. is it such a crime that you not be a cock?
[editline]9th October 2015[/editline] lol nvm just noticed youve been banned for not tagging spoilers before. clearly you arent going to be swayed or willing to listen
They better do this right. Open world or not. [editline]10th October 2015[/editline]
Nine years later and we're still spoiler tagging something that happens in the first chapter?
ehm.. Second chapter.. 8 years.. ehm ehm
wow are you actually so daft do you seriously not understand the point hes trying to make or are you just being a cock munch for the heck of it [editline]9th October 2015[/editline] just because i cba to have this conversation a second time already [editline]9th October 2015[/editline] lol nvm just noticed youve been banned for not tagging spoilers before. clearly you arent going to be swayed or willing to listen
Tomorrow, the game will be eight years old. How old does something have to be before people don't have to worry about spoilers? [sp]Romeo and Juliet both die.[/sp]
wow are you actually so daft do you seriously not understand the point hes trying to make or are you just being a cock munch for the heck of it [editline]9th October 2015[/editline] just because i cba to have this conversation a second time already
So exactly how much time needs to pass before spoiler warnings are no longer applicable? If eight years isn't enough, 10 years? 15 years? Obviously not 20 because you already shot down the Pokemon Red / Blue spoiler as "daft".
[sp]Darth vader is Luke skywalker's father[/sp]

[sp]Romeo and Juliet both die.[/sp]
uh why would you stop? is it so gosh darned hard to type [sp][/sp] around your posts? since youve already demonstrated that it is, go ahead and explain why its such a hassle tia [editline]9th October 2015[/editline] like i didnt know that there was an expiry date on spoilers. im certainly not the one claiming there is one, why dont one of you suggest one
So exactly how much time needs to pass before spoiler warnings are no longer applicable? If eight years isn't enough, 10 years? 15 years? Obviously not 20 because you already shot down the Pokemon Red / Blue spoiler as "daft".
It is a daft example. It's how every Pokemon game starts, it's appeared in marketing for the show, and the weight it holds is significantly less than what it was posted in response to. LegoGuy's tagged spoiler is a reasonably big twist, and for first-time players it can even come as a shock. And yes, in the eight years that have passed since the release of Episode 2 (eleven years since the release of HL2 itself), a whole new generation of people have grown up who have never played a Half-Life game. Some might not have even heard of the series, isn't that crazy to consider? Not to mention people who simply haven't played it for whatever reason. Maybe they've been busy with other games/life in general and it just slipped from memory, it happens. Maybe they weren't interested in the games before, but a HL3 announcement could still spark interest and finally get them into the games — That's a cool thing, and they should be allowed to have the same chance to experience the games for the first time. There's no reason to spoil things. Games, movies, books, whatever. Time isn't a factor. "It's been long enough" is a bogus excuse, there will always be new people to experience them. People gain nothing for spoiling something, except maybe the reputation of being a big stupid jerk who likes to spoil things for others.
If you specify a fade in the worldspawn, or if the engine is running under dx7, then the engine will forcibly fade out props even if fademindist/fademaxdist isn\'t specified. This scale factor gives you some control over the fade. Using 0 here turns off the forcible fades.
Source 2 supporting dx7 and under? :what:
Source 2 supporting dx7 and under? :what:
Again, some of those things could have been copy/pasted from older source games. These are just FDGs, so, who knows.
Is HL3 actually just Frog Fractions 2?
I dont get the negative view of open world for HL3. We are talking about Valve here, its not Ubisoft for fuck sakes, so Valve has a good purpose of why HL3 is open world.
tbh, Half-Life is somewhat already a RPG, just more directed. Like, one guy tells you to go somewhere and you do that quest thing, which they then tell you to go somewhere else. I could be wrong though, I haven't played Half-Life in a bit.
tbh, Half-Life is somewhat already a MMO, just more directed.
Was reading something on Valvetime: Every Source Mappers dreams have come true.
The whole file is really interesting. It's not just a day-night cycle, it's a full simulation of a year. They have timezones, latitude & longitude modifiers, lunar phases, Sidereal and Synodic months. I think there might actually be some credit to HL3 being an open-world game - at least if not HL3 then another project, because there's a lot of effort in this.
Devin Watson's post in the Half-Life thread is the most pertinent thing to come out of this really.
An open-world Half Life game would be neat. Everybody goes on about how arena-style HL and HL2 were with the lack of iron sights (etc), but I never saw it. Personally the arena-style facets of those games (lack of weapon zooming and no ability to improve one's aim) frustrated me, especially as I came to them after playing the original CoD. I'm afraid for the quality of story though. Valve has proven excellence in scripted storytelling through linear environments. This would be a big, new experiment for them
I did my looking threw this and i found this.... string m_Id = "Attribute.item_generic.pickup_prevents_respawning" string m_FriendlyName = "Pickup prevents respawning (HL3 only)" string m_TooltipOverride = "" string m_HelpText = "" :jawdrop: hl3? I WANT TO BELEIVE
i'm willing to bet valve does all internal dev stuff in hl3 code names, just to screw with people
:xfiles:
So is HL3 a MOBA?
They should just release h3 onto the store, no front page or anything, and it only comes up when you properly type Half-Life 3
Eh, Its been to long for it to be worth while in my eyes. I suspect it will be something something forever not really interesting game.
Eh, Its been to long for it to be worth while in my eyes. I suspect it will be something something forever not really interesting game.
I don't get why people have this mentality. Because a game wasn't released in a certain timeframe it automatically becomes shit? Because it took forever all of the sudden the game can't possibly be fun? A dumb way of thinking imo
This is promising news, but I'm remaining cautiously optimistic. Maybe after all these years, it will finally come out. But I've learned to manage my expectations. Let's just wait and see.
Eh, Its been to long for it to be worth while in my eyes. I suspect it will be something something forever not really interesting game.
Team Fortress 2 came out 11 years after the original. You're saying it still wasn't worth the wait? That's about how long ago HL2 was released from today.
Keep in mind that Valve is known for hiding strings and texture files of unreleased heroes in Dota 2, so I highly believe that all of this is intentional.
Team Fortress 2 came out 11 years after the original. You're saying it still wasn't worth the wait? That's about how long ago HL2 was released from today.
Is that a statement or a question?
Because a game wasn't released in a certain timeframe it automatically becomes shit?
game design has changed since then and most games now aren't really what you would call fun. There are expections people trying to revive old ideas and as a result creating good games that are fun but still most aren't.
