You'd think a file like that would be a .dll or .cfg, though, that data of this type wouldn't be in a simple .txt file.
There's more files in Source 2 that might've made more sense as a .cfg or a .ini but are also .txt's. It doesn't really matter.
Talked to somebody else. They said it was just a Dota file. 'Help List 3 .txt' as they said.
Being thrown from studio to studio eventually being published solely to cash in on hype??
no i said DNF effect when a game is anticipated for so long it can't possibly make up for the wait which is exactly what's gonna happen with hl3, regardless of how good it will be
even if it's hl3 it'll get the DNF effect
Every fucking thread. And every fucking time, its somebody who has absolutely no fucking idea why DNF turned out the way it did. [editline]10th October 2015[/editline]
no i said DNF effect when a game is anticipated for so long it can't possibly make up for the wait which is exactly what's gonna happen with hl3, regardless of how good it will be
Why is that the "DNF" effect. DNF was shit for a variety of reasons that all had to do with its fucked up Dantean hell of a development cycle, including involving perfectly fine builds of the game being entirely scrapped to ape off of the success of other games around the same time.
no i said DNF effect when a game is anticipated for so long it can't possibly make up for the wait which is exactly what's gonna happen with hl3, regardless of how good it will be
Wrong. DNF was bad because as a game it was bad. Had DNF come out 2-3 years after previous Duke, it would still be a bad Duke game. It flopped not because of long wait time and unrealistic expectations but because it was a bad game. That's all. If HL3 will be a good game, it will be a good game. If it will suck, it will suck because it's just bad, not because it took so long to come out. No "DNF effect" at play here. DNF effect is a stupid term that seems to be used by people who have no idea what they're talking about. Valve knows what they're doing, HL3 will most likely be a good game and no silly DNF effects will make it otherwise.
valve said a while ago that HL3 isn't going to be a VR game, yet theres stuff for VR in this, the open world stuff may be a thing valve is working on
Talked to somebody else. They said it was just a Dota file. 'Help List 3 .txt' as they said.
Then what's with all the Half-Life universe related objects and names in it?
valve said a while ago that HL3 isn't going to be a VR game, yet theres stuff for VR in this, the open world stuff may be a thing valve is working on
Won't be a VR game != won't have VR support
Uh no? Source 1 was really outdated and brought a lot of limitations to Dota 2 (mostly implementing custom games, a feature the community really always wanted). The reason it's the first title to adopt it is because it has the biggest fanbase. The next game to see the transition is CSGO.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't HL the first game made on each new iteration of Source? HL1 for GoldSrc HL2 for Source 1 HL3 for Source 2?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't HL the first game made on each new iteration of Source? HL1 for GoldSrc HL2 for Source 1 HL3 for Source 2?
I believe Counter-Strike: Source came out first.
I believe Counter-Strike: Source came out first.
15 days before, yeah. A better way to put it would be, each HL game was the game to show off what the engine is capable of.
no i said DNF effect when a game is anticipated for so long it can't possibly make up for the wait which is exactly what's gonna happen with hl3, regardless of how good it will be
that isn't the DNF effect JeSuS fUcKiNg ShIt that "DNF effect" doesn't even exist people aren't going to cry because hl3 wasn't hl2 only 60 times better with native brain wiring support so that you can play using your brain
am i the only one here who doesn't care about hl3's rating as long as it's above 90
Valve News Network just put out a video reviewing some of the things learned from the "leaked" files
From what I understand, Source 2 was supposed to be designed to handle Open World environments a lot better since that was one of the difficulties about Source 1. I wouldn't be surprised if Half Life 3 ended up being, not necessarily Open World, but a lot less linear than its predecessors.
I want more like the original Half-Life than HL2. I love being able to backtrack a bunch, it really makes the place feel cohesive even if the levels would actually overlap. For example, in MGS1 there's a part where you have to run all the fucking way back to one of the first places you go to pick up a weapon to kill a boss. I don't like so much that you're forced to do it later in the game, but more I just love that you can go all the way back to the beginning. DNF had longass load times, boring gameplay, dumb changes nobody wanted from its old arcade roots (like 2 weapon maxes), turret sections, etc. It was a shit game. Fallout 4's been hyped for the past few years, and from the E3 conference, it already looks like it's far more than I expected and it looks fucking incredible. You could argue that it hasn't been long enough, but be honest, after the initial hype of a leak, it dies out and people stop talking about it until the next one where the hype is re-invigorated. Time doesn't matter, it's the game's quality.
I really hope HL3 has decent weapon variety like HL1 did. HL2 was super underwhelming in the weapon department.
I really hope HL3 has decent weapon variety like HL1 did. HL2 was super underwhelming in the weapon department.
Rather than better variety, it needs a reason to use each weapon in different situations. 100 guns don't improve the gunplay if you're gonna end up using the crossbow, ar2 and shotgun.
Rather than better variety, it needs a reason to use each weapon in different situations. 100 guns don't improve the gunplay if you're gonna end up using the crossbow, ar2 and shotgun.
Exactly. I just hope they don't do the same shit with the Glock and SMG from HL1 where ammo is shared between them, because if you used the SMG, that killed your Glock ammo if you were just trying to pop some houndeyes or something from a longer range and didn't want to waste ammo for any of the other more accurate weapons. I also hope they go back to holding the pistol with two hands. It looks so useless with one, because he goes from holding the glock with two hands the entirety of HL1 to being put in stasis, and coming out of it able to one-hand the USP.
The next game to see the transition is CSGO.
*: probably yeah, it'd be next in line for a Source 2 hybridization, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were an entirely new game before.
CS:GO will probably be ported at some point, but I think we'll see another Valve title before that, moving CS:GO will be difficult because all of the custom maps, and I don't think the community will want to transition back to mostly stock maps.
FUCK
We need to remember: no Half-Life 3 until HL2 Episode Three.
We need to remember: no Half-Life 3 until HL2 Episode Three.
Except not, 'cuz they've seemingly abandoned the episodic model.
We need to remember: no Half-Life 3 until HL2 Episode Three.
I dont think they give enough of a shit to even call it Episode 3 anymore. It would hurt sales anyway.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me... fool me for the fiftieth time and fuck you. [editline]10th October 2015[/editline] Still, after reviewing all this if it isn't at least Half Life 3, then it sounds like it'll be an interesting new IP.
CS:GO will probably be ported at some point, but I think we'll see another Valve title before that, moving CS:GO will be difficult because all of the custom maps, and I don't think the community will want to transition back to mostly stock maps
Actually, Source 2 has backwards compatibility for old maps. I heard with the right config you can just plug them in and play on Source 2. Afaik they'd look the same except for updated shaders. CSGO being updated is probably pretty likely, even if it's only so they can ship more units with "NOW ON SOURCE 2!" hype.

It can be done, but we'd be without custom maps for quite awhile, unless Valve starts contacting map authors soon. Even then, a number of maps that have been accepted into CS:GO have been more or less abandoned, meaning Valve would have to take time out itself (I don't see it happening) to decompile the maps, the models, and fix everything back up again.
