Only because it's been on sale 300 times, and it's one of those games that most people wanted to play when it went on sale due to it's short linear nature
Hmm that's funny because I thought a lot of companies were complaining about the PC market. Hmm that's odd, a single online distributor making almost 1 billion in sales. Wow, I hadn't realized how bad the market must have been.
Considering that the entire gaming industry exceeds revenue of $50 billion annually and Steam is estimated to control 75% of the online PC gaming distribution market, you could see why those companies have a legitimate complaint. Granted, I don't know what the revenue steam brings in but my point still stands.
the only games on that list i've bought are portal, bad company and civ...
i remember when steam was first starting out around half life 2. damn they've come a long way
Hey Gabe, you seem to have enough money from TF2 microtransactions, mind donating a little of those Steam profits to a noble cause?
Maybe we should ask Gabe to give us a million dollars, that's pocket money to him...
Oh god image if he did, that would be fucking awesome, someone write him a letter!
Am i the first one to wonder if the biggest percentage of those number MIGHT went to the original publishers and Valve only took a small percentage of it?

I'm pretty sure Valve takes a significant chunk

Valve takes 50% of each sale

I look forwards to my $2000.

good luck lol
Yet they still allow tours if you call in advance?
Valve, you win.

Source? I find that hard to believe to be honest.
The sad part: Three fourths of that revenue will be allocated to making new Team Fortress 2 [del]content[/del] hats.
none of the TF2 promo games are in there... hmm

Only 50% doesn't sound like a good deal for a publisher.
Then again they won't have to spend money on physical copies because it's digital distribution.
The swimming Gabe picture is so true if these numbers are correct.

lol the reason they opened the tf2 store thing was because they had been doing all that content for free and needed to start making money from it
Nobody really knows how much of a cut Valve gives to developers who sell their games on Steam.
Except the source talks about buisiness volume, not profit.
DOSH!

Lol pft, probably more like 15% - 25%max.
Valve gets it's cut by just distributing other games through Steam (other than their own hurr). Even 15% for every game that's sold over Steam is a lot if you think about the tiny amount of work Valve has to do.
Holiday sales, too good
Valve should start selling stock so I can buy some :frown:
I remember when I first bought HL2 and everyone was flipping out in anger over Steam, and I liked it back then. That's pretty staggering, $970 Million... Can't even imagine that much money passing through a single store.
What is this? PC gaming is dying? Steam's 970 millions disagree.
I remember when Steam first came out. I never thought it would be this huge and successful.

Sorry but Gabe isnt big enough.
This is great, but, how much money do they have left over from the Half-Life 1 and 2 sales?
