Afghanistan was doing well until the late 20th century.
I voted Obama, Bobbie Rose, yes on an amendment to the South Carolina state constitution that would have Governors and Lieutenant Governors run on the same ticket in exchange for the president of the senate being elected by the senate from the senate a la parliament instead of being the lieutenant governor, and a couple of local bond measures to build and fix schools.
And you think a less competent ANA is going to do any better? I'm pretty sure the opinion is higher then that of the Taliban in Afghanistan.. considering how liberal young people are in Kubal and around the country.
It is not our job to police other countries, plain and simple. It gets our soldiers killed, puts us further in debt, and generally makes other countries hate us.
Anyway I am not derailing anymore, this is an election thread.
I'd prefer the current government over Taliban.
The thing is, it's not your or anyone else's call to make but Afghans. Civil wars are horrible already without any kind of foreign involvement. Especially when peaceful citizens are often caught in a crossfire.
Has anyone actually had problems in lines? I spent maybe 15 minutes in lines, and another 5 filling out my ballot.

People will hate you more for pulling out.. except for maybe the Taliban. You guys are kind of obligated to build Afghanistan up considering how you pretty much ruined Afghanistan starting from the eighties.

It wasn't a civil war until the US invaded, I think its a smart decision to keep the current government in power since almost all of the countries surrounding it except for Iran enjoy US presence and stability.

I was a civil war before the US invaded.
Northern Alliance fought the Taliban for years before we came in country.

So even if it wasn't a civil war (but it was) until US (NATO, actually, there're more countries that got involved alongside US, and those that were already there) invaded so it's the perfect reason for them to stay for awhile more... right. And again, about these countries that enjoy stability... Pakistan really enjoys it's citizens being marked a "collateral damage" all the time. Precision missiles, again.

Informative, but still.. Afghanistan would be better off without Taliban executing people for breaching Islamic values.

To be fair Pakistan pretty much aids the Taliban, I don't support the drone strikes but I don't support Pakistan.
Really when we pull out Afghanistan is going to split along tribal lines again. The Pashtuns are going to side with the Taliban, the Tajiks and Uzbeks are going to try to resist, and the Hazaras are going to be killed by both sides.
Just like in the 1990s.
I hope my avatar loses.

I think everyone agrees that the Taliban are bad, and that they shouldn't rule anywhere. But that's not the focus here, the point is, should we waste money and lives to stay for a long time and to try to stabilize a region that will never be?

Well, I for one support not killing peaceful people by anyone ever, so the question of support is off the table for me. All these years of US involvement in other countries' internal affairs hardly made things better if at all.
lyke if u tink havin a MUSLUM presdent is wrong vote ROMNEY

In my opinion it should be spent, for the greater benefit of the region.

But the thing is, Taliban did it intentionally in the name of Islam and ISAF does it by accident.

Sure, but can American military intervention eradicate the Taliban? Do we have the power to stabilize a nation?
Sure, but can American military intervention eradicate the Taliban? Do we have the power to stabilize a nation?
No, but we can influence public opinion, and people in Taliban-controlled provinces are finally starting to get sick of them if NPR is to be believed.

People die. When "collateral damage" happens with no actual result on a regular basis, it's called either an impotency to resolve the issue or a complete incompetence. I agree with you, something should be done with that region. But the last two decades showed that intervention is not an effective measure.
She's anti-nuclear.
Well good. Thorium reactors are a much better substitute. Only reason we went nuclear was because it could be weaponized.
Oh thank god.
I'm not American, and even I know electing Mitt Romney would be a major fuck up.
http://elections.nytimes.com/2012/results/president
Obama's winning!
He's heavily leading a primarily democratic state
he's not winning yet, there's 49 more states
http://elections.nytimes.com/2012/results/president
Obama's winning!
Out of 42 votes from a democratic state, yes he is winning
It doesn't really mean anything at this point though
http://elections.nytimes.com/2012/results/president
Obama's winning!
Yes, Obama is winning with 28 votes to Romney's 14. Very impressive.
Unless something went wrong and the numbers you're seeing are a lot bigger than the ones I am.
That's the point...
I'm picturing that one place in New Hampshire as a tiny little town where they know everyone's voted already.

About to vote as an Ohio voter. So excited for all the political campaign ads to stop. I am voting for Bronco Mama from kenya. Come at me glaber.
