FYI it still works fine without paying you just can't minimise the window to tray when using it so just keep it open and run your game
I know. And I also know that they limit the amount of people you can have to five because they made it subscription based. (It is possible to cheat the limit. It's just very tedious.)
Can't you just use hamachi now or something? I mean its a pain but at least it will keep internet play alive somewhat
OR someone will have the wilfulness to set up a server or two!
I don't understand why they're shutting it down, if there are only 20 players peaking they don't need any big expensive servers for this, they could literally run this for nothing.
Ive never understood what people see in the halo franchise.
Ive never understood what people see in the halo franchise.
Its a good fast paced shooter with fun vehicle play, kind of arcadey.
Ive never understood what people see in the halo franchise.
Halo 1 Custom Edition was the best. Flyable pelicans with room for troops, jets, longswords, Mechs, huge open maps, weapons, and all other great stuff. Tons of custom maps and mods made that game great.
Why does Microsoft keep alienating PC gamers?
Why does Microsoft keep alienating PC gamers?
because xbox is the only tru gaming platform 4 life yo.
I always thought that port was pretty much a failure anyways in terms of multiplayer since everyone just kept playing CE.
Wasn't played very much considering that there wasn't the moddability that existed with original Halo and also GAYMES FUR WINDOWS LIVE which probably broke this on half the people's PC's. Also the transition to Halo 2 wasn't very smooth considering that they wanted to force people to upgrade to Vista, which was in fact worse than XP. The last time I tried installing Halo 2 (Retail copy) it gave me some Games for Windows Live error, then another time I tried installing it and it told me the serial code could no longer be used. Anyway, I'm cool with the fact that the original Halo servers are still online, for how long who knows
afaik Halo: CE has a dedi-server platform, so even if the master list goes down you could still connect to any servers that are still up via IP.
Kind of sucks, but it was a bad port anyway. They need to get Gearbox to port one of the newer games again.
I really hope they remove the pay for in hamachi... It sucks.
it's free
Don't worry you guys you can still play MP with strangers Just download a tunneling program so you can hook up your Xbox/Xbox 360 to other Xboxes as if they were on a LAN network. [editline]17th January 2013[/editline] And from the looks of it the Halo 2 community is still going on Xbox/X360
This is pretty much like when Capcom shut down the Monster Hunter 1 servers on PS2. There were only a few hundred peaking but there were close to a thousand that played on different times.
I hate to see H2 die again. I tried to play this PC game so many times but the guy who gave out free codes for people to continue playing with him ran out and I was too late. Now when H3 dies, that will be even more sad.
who doesn't use tunngle nowadays
Release free version microshit!
Halo 2 for the PC was a complete failure of a port anyway. GFWL was a pain in the ass and it was only designed to work on Windows Vista, there was a random chance of it working for 7 but with XP you were screwed.
Why does Microsoft keep alienating PC gamers?
you do realize that the console version of Halo 2's multiplayer was already shut down way before now right..?
20 peak players and you guys get all up in arms, ridiculous knee-jerk reaction
you do realize that the console version of Halo 2's multiplayer was already shut down way before now right..?
I think he may also be referring to the rest of the Halo series not being on PC
you do realize that the console version of Halo 2's multiplayer was already shut down way before now right..?
But Halo 2 PC came out years after Halo 2 on Xbox. Granted Halo 2 PC sucked anyway. I could never play online with those 20 other people because the game lagged to shit and wasn't even playable online. If I recall, there was a serious vulnerability found in the Halo CE server last year in the server that allowed an attacker to crash the server with a console command. Since the game had long been discontinued at that point, but was still very active, someone at Bungie released a patch on their own time to fix the problem. I still want to see a Halo 3 PC though...
The "20 players peak" thing is COMPLETE BULLSHIT. Last time I played it back in December there were a shitload more than 20 players online. 343 is bullshitting people and bullying them into buying an Xbox and Gold. And since when did 343 have say over Halo 2's servers? I thought they were folded into the same system as Xbox Live as a whole.
Can't you find a old version of hamachi and use that. Whenever I wanted more then the limit in my Minecraft server I usually made another hamachi room whatever and linked it to the main one, allowing more then 20 to play. Sucks that halo 2 main servers are shutting down, I prefer custom edition though because strange enough that the modding community is still going strong.
I have a premonition that they're prematurely going to shut down Halo 3 soon enough too in order to [del]bully[/del] encourage classic Halo players to play Halo 4 instead. And chances are, they're going to sit back while the new Gamespy owners shut down Halo 1's master list.
Maybe there will be one of those master list renewal mods like AvP2
No love for PC...ever.
Xbox servers for it already shut down, so there's more love for PC actually
I think he may also be referring to the rest of the Halo series not being on PC
I always feel that Halo 3 would have had an amazing modding community Just really feels like we missed out on some gold
Goddammit you fucking shithead cock cunts at Microsoft/343/bungie! (My copy actually works perfectly. It's hella fun to play halo 2 PC if it works.)
