• Didn't see that coming: Bungie fires Marty O'Donnell "without cause"

What no why this is like one of two video game music people (aside from Grant Kirkhope) that even I recognize I do hope 343 brings him in, it'd bring at least some hope to future Halo
What? His compositions were really what set the Halo franchise apart. I'm assuming Michael Salvatori, who was also responsible for the score, is still in play.
Something's wrong, I'm eager to see this unfold some more.
Why the fuck would you this? Seriously, this is one of the best music guys the Gaming industry has to offer. Really hope he lands somewhere where his talents are used.
Him and David Wise are both geniuses and don't get enough credit imo.
What a tragic day, Marty has been my Steam avatar for some time, and before that my friend's gamerpic on Xbox Live, his mullet filling the screens of losers in Burnout Paradise. These are dark times.
ill never forget you marty ;_;7 [editline]16th April 2014[/editline] also michael salvatori does not work for bungie afaik [editline]16th April 2014[/editline] So bungie posted this http://www.bungie.net/7_There-are-those-who-said-this-day-would-never-come/en/News/News?aid=11484
There are those who said this day would never come... by DeeJ For more than a decade, Marty O’Donnell filled our worlds with unforgettable sounds and soundtracks, and left an indelible mark on our fans. Today, as friends, we say goodbye. We know that wherever his journey takes him, he will always have a bright and hopeful future. We wish him luck in all his future endeavors.
Hmm, doesn't say WHY though.
this is my jams.
remove the S in https
there's definitely more to this they have more games in the pipeline that will need music, and they can't exactly get anyone better for what they're doing. It's likely he either just doesn't know why he's been fired and it was some executive bullshit, or there was a reason and he'd just rather have some sympathy.
Then he'd have been terminated with cause. Example: Won't stop looking up porn of dogs fucking women on company machines: Terminated with cause. Position redundant due to downsizing, changing corporate strategies or whatever: Terminated without cause. Although "we don't want to talk about the actual reason" would also slide under 'without' at their discretion, I guess.
Um what. That's what we're saying. There has to be more to this and Marty is just being quiet.
this is my jams.
I just made a cover of this song a week ago thinking how awesome it is. Bungie wont be Bungie without O'Donnell. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r67wwtT0-fQ
they constantly say in their documentaries how marty's work is real good, how could they do this
thinking of Halo, his music was probably one of the main reasons I enjoyed the franchise as much as I did (until 343). hopefully Bungie will fill people in why they did as they did
A lot of the really good people at Bungie are gone. Joseph recently left, and now Marty is forced to leave...

Normally whenever companies are bought and sold, senior employees with large salaries are often the first to go. The BoD at Bungie are absolutely mental for firing Martin, top talent is impossible to retain in this industry! HIS SALARY WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY, if he asks for more; you fucking pay it. Do everything you can to keep your top talent with your company.
Holy fuck what [editline]16th April 2014[/editline]
For more than a decade, Marty O’Donnell filled our worlds with unforgettable sounds and soundtracks, and left an indelible mark on our fans. Today, as friends, we say goodbye. We know that wherever his journey takes him, he will always have a bright and hopeful future. We wish him luck in all his future endeavors.
Damn I honestly can't believe this, Marty was a fucking genius, how could they let him go?
'as friends, we say goodbye' 'without cause' right
This genuinely shakes me. I honestly can't accept "without cause" for something of this caliber.
there's obviously more to this why fire such a valuable asset, there's obviously a big reason for this
Probably something along the lines of Activision not wanting to spend so much money on Destinies score. But that wouldn't be without cause, right?
Seems like conservatives are being hounded out of tech companies. First the Mozilla CEO, now Rosie O'Donnell's husband.
Well my day/week/year/life has been thoroughly ruined. I've loved Bungie since Marathon, but this is genuinely shaken my faith in them.
At least he won't have trouble finding work...
What in the flying fucking shit fuck WHAT. This is a catastrophic error! Why would you fire such a great composer? Marty's music is part of Bungie. When you hear Marty's music, you think 'Bungie' (and probably 'Halo' if you're a fan of the series), and usually you immediately hear how good it is. His music has only been increasing in quality with every release, and this is very noticeable in Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach. Firing him or letting him go or whatever is a huge mistake. If he left of his own accord, that'd be a better situation, because that way he can make music for movies and more, and really expand on his talent and shit. But, nope, he was fired. What the hell, Bungie.
Harmonix should offer a job to Marty. His influence would be EPIC in Chroma.
I hope everything turns out alright. Bungie is my favorite developer and Marty creates some of the best music in gaming.
I remember reading an unrelated article about Bungie some time ago and it seemed like there was some tensions between O'Donnell and Jason Jones over the fact that the music was solely one person's large contribution, and that was over a year ago I believe. Found the article before I posted: http://www.polygon.com/features/2013/1/24/3908184/heart-of-bungie-destiny-jason-jones-marty-odonnell-halo Link to the specific section of the article: http://www.polygon.com/features/2013/1/24/3908184/heart-of-bungie-destiny-jason-jones-marty-odonnell-halo#sect-five
Just hope that 343 Industries manages to pick him up to make some good music for the upcoming Halo Xbox One. If not, well, he'll eventually get right back into the music industry, right?
