As a rule of thumb I do all large takeout orders at any fast food restaurant inside. Then double check in the car. Feels bad when you bring food for a group and someone is bummered because they got the wrong thing. Hard to screw up a single order so If it's just me I can do drive through.
I have a white castles nearby that does this often. Pisses me and my dad off.
At my store the printer for the grill slips doesn't work most of the time, so I can understand when the people bagging everything up put the wrong sandwich in the bag
Now get Burger King to do it aswell.
I alternate between the two and at BK they almost always forget the fucking ketchup, and that's standard, not even something you ask for
For those living in Lisbon, it's the BK at Segunda Circular. You know the one.
Only had a McDonald's screw up my special order once, which I feel is probably due to getting a routine down and not deviating from it. There was a funny thing that happened though when my dad and I were at the drive-thru where the order was taking a long time. They told us "We're waiting on the no mustard". I'm assuming they were referring to my burgers, but we were confused as hell when we heard that.
I used to ask for no pickles, because they're gross garbage, but almost always got them anyway. Eventually just decided it was easier to just pick them off then to ask to not get them.
Generally if my order is wrong I tend to not care that much anyway.
don't get me wrong, i dont mind pickles on a good burger. i just dont want your floppy rubber discs mcdonalds.
It's one reason why I really prefer Sheetz. All the ordering is by touch screen, with you selecting exactly what you want.
As someone who has both eaten and worked at Sheetz I can tell you we get orders wrong too more often than you'd think even with the computers reminding us what to do
After my nearest McDonalds fucked up four times in a row (twice it was fucking up the order, once they undercooked a batch of 50 fucking McNuggets, then the last time there was a long hair in my food) I just stopped going. Nowadays if I'm really hankering for McDonalds I'll drive a bit further to the better one, but because of the inconvenience it's really rare that I get McDonalds these days.
One really good thing they have going for them, however, is that most of the McDonalds around here still do the any sized drink for $1 deal.
That McNugget thing really pissed me off, though. They weren't busy when I ordered and I waited patiently for it, how the hell did they fuck up cooking them long enough? Of course it was carry out so I didn't find out until I friggin got home. And then obviously the hair thing was a deal breaker.
I worked in a dunkin' donuts for about two and a half years, always during the saturday and sunday morning rushes. The store was by a rich white people neighborhood (known for a golf course, etc) with a million churches around.
Shit happens. I don't know why McDonald's or anywhere else that may not already train their employees to double check (i.e. repeat the order back once the customer's finished, it always worked for us and cut down a lot of shit). The problem is, it isn't always the cashier/order takers fault, and people seem to think it is.
Shit happens. McDonald's for me has usually been fine, I can only think of one time they left pickles on my order out of a fair amount of eating there.
I'm not sure where you got this from the article, but a good 70% of the time, it actually is the customer's fault (and your own personal experiences don't really mean much in this kind of argument - people in drive-thrus are a level beyond stupid at times. I had people try to order Firehouse through our drive thru. There isn't even a fucking Firehouse menu outside.)
The reason they don't double-check is because they're literally timed on how fast they can get your food out: If they're above the allotted time, they're considered to have failed, and repeated failure might mean losing your job. If you're BELOW the allotted time, they expect you to reach THAT time every single time afterwards, not even taking into account the size or complexity of the order. That's how it was when I worked at Taco Villa, they would judge you down to the split-second on drive-thru orders especially, and drive-thru came first. (thankfully I didn't work up front, I was the guy making the meat and salsa and what-not in the back)

Yeah no when my receipt doesn't reflect my order, that's in 0 way my fault.

oh, I know, we had to have every car out in 2:30 from the second they pulled up to the order board, regardless of how long it took them to order. it's not hard, in my case, to get sandwiches out fast and correctly, and yes, McD's is a small bit more complex, it's really more of the same

that is why I said a number like 70%
I rarely go to McDonald's since there's a Wendy's right next to it. It's slightly pricier but i get my order within 1 minute every time and it is rarely wrong. They also correct it very quickly if it is wrong. The McDonald's on the other hand has takes 5+ minutes for small orders and gets it wrong usually and takes longer to correct it which I don't have time for when I'm on my lunch break. It's not even busy when I'm in there, 1 or 2 other people max.

Sheesh, McDonald's has a 2:30 time limit? Taco Villa had <1 minute.
