Just fyi he's not saying God caused it to or allowed it to happen because of this, he's saying that people don't have proper moral guidance now because there isn't religion being taught in schools, and they don't fear God which is why they don't hesitate to commit these atrocities. That's dumb and wrong for its own reasons, but it's significantly less dumb and wrong and horrible than it sounds.

By definition there is no God-forsaken place for Catholics, as he is always present: his scrutiny and moral judgement reach every far corner of the earth.
