Contact lenses project Images Straight to your Eye. New era of gaming?

For some reason, all I could think of is "Is this a new plot to eradicate epilepsy?"
Still, I would love to see these become a reality. Especially if it means merging reality and virtuality (with the help of a small computer, it could change the way we live. Forgot that dude's name? No worry, it's actually written above his head!)
Very very clever stuff, I'd happily put myself up for testing on this sort of technology. Truly amazes me that the sort of stuff I'd read in stuff like Quest as a kid or see on Tomorrow's World is on the way in
As a race we're currently standing on the edge of a wide chasm of evolutionary opportunity. While we look back at the 1500's and pronounce the renaissance, in millenia that will be forgotten and 2000- will be the true golden age of digitisation
Blink to pause game, blink quickly twice to resume.

Oh shit, all the pausing.
how the hell would this be feasable, having to rotate the contacts every time you put them in, in order to align the pictures :colbert:
its not like they can have a mini gyroscope in it.
actually scratch that, I suppose you could have the OLED array floating in a little pocket inside the contact, with it being heavier at the bottom.
would only take a second.
but then movement would upset it
This would be stupid for gaming, why waste such technology on such a trivial market. This would be great for pilots, soldiers, and pretty much any field that requires instantaneous knowledge retrieval. Imagine, driving down a dark road on a foggy night, and having a pop up saying that something is in the way. Or piloting a plane, having all essential information right in front of you, without need to look all around the cockpit.
You know that's a gaming site right

Combine this technology with this?

Can't we just wear virtual reality glasses instead, because I fucking hate wearing contact lenses.
Of course, the video would have to be specially encoded/made so the brain can interpret the signals and translate it into one proper image in your head.
Sounds more like a new era of eye cancer. Imagine playing Beat Hazard with that.
The second article had the mistake. Actually it's Red and Blue that are available, and Green is the needed color.
Thanks for the heads up.
Sweet
10 years later: Ads everywhere.
Beat me to it, but yeah, more like 'New era of invasive advertising.'
Imagine fapping to porn and just when you're done...
"INTRODUCING NEW (INSERT PRODUCT NAME HERE)"
You: "OH GOD HNNNGH" *splurt*
Also, Ghost In The Shell-style eye-hacking anyone?
Even though contact lenses may be convenient I think the first stop for this eye display gaming stuff will be eyeglasses, not contacts
Eye's cant focus properly on images so close bye.
I wore these and now my vision is augmented.

these would be horrible for anything besides a hud type thing; watching a movie would be impossible as because they're covering your eyes you couldn't move your gaze on the screen, it'd be extremely disorienting.
I want an IRL HUD.
Shit would be badass. :v:
and suprise, they cost 5000$
Imagine getting trolled into looking at something you didn't want to. When you close your eyes...its still there..:ohdear:
In war if you shoot someone.
50+
these things wont work for gaming or movies and who the fuck wants a hud for real life besides super nerds? I'm sure less than half of facepunch fits that category. Maybe the military could use them I don't know
I fucking hate putting contacts in.
I'm hoping we get something like this

Holy shit a whole new frontier for cheating on exams.
augmented reality
here we come
How would your eyes even focus on something that close?
The image is projected on the retina.
In other words you don't see it on the surface of you eye, you see it several feet ahead of you.
:science:
I fucking hate putting contacts in.
wow you must suck takes like 2 secs for me
Can I have glasses modded instead? I don't like contacts.
How will you look at the HUD?
If you move your eyes the entire HUD will move, you won't be able to read it.
this is actually an old concept, planned for 10-15 years, and there was a very poorly functioning rendition a few years ago

it was just like one light on and off i think
Already have this, called immersion.
