I like diet soda, but it makes me gain weight pretty bad and I get addicted to it. Infact after quitting for half a year and lost around 30-40 pounds from that alone with no actual food changes. Im starting to quit again due to weight gain again.

This is my favorite soda and one of my favorite beverages overall.
It's so refreshing compared to the sickly sugary coke and other sugary sodas.

I tried pretty much all the sodas that were available, when you drink alot of one soda, every other soda seems to suck for some reason, then when you force yourself to drink another soda, after a while, it will be the best soda.
So wait. I consume a lot of diet soda but I eat healthy and I excise a lot. Does this still give me a risk of heart disease?
It gives you an increased risk relative to not drinking it at all.
i prefer diet coke. normal coke, especially from a can, is really thick and syrupy. it's not nice. it's dehydrating and you can feel it on your teeth
not that i drink coke these days anyway but still
People who actually order a diet soda witha big mac are dumb as hell like seriously
if you're that concerned for your health
1. Use cane sugar
2. Don't drink soda at ALL, have tea or water.
3. why are you ordering a damn burger in the first place?
it's been known for like, a decade that its actually WORSE FOR YOU
But I like soda :(
Drinking unhealthy things is unhealthy? Well I never.
Well you need to study them in order to properly declare that they're unhealthy, so there you have it.
Is it weird that I prefer the taste of diet soda
If you guys are interested in trying some "Wtf" brands of soda, I'd recommend going the Galco's Pop Stop page.
I am probably going to put in an order for things like their Dry Lavender and Rose pops.
It kinda blows that brands like these don't get that much advertisement. You sometimes can find specialty stores that sell them, but for the most part, you have to order them directly from the manufacturer.

So Pepsi Max is ok, right?

No?
Diet soda consumers weird me out.
I never understood how people prefer the disgusting taste of diet soda over tea or coffee. This is assuming they need caffeine. There will be times when I don't feel like water and there's only diet at someone's house, I'll give it a chance and end up pouring it down the sink because it's a repulsive beverage. Never learn.
I had coworker, which disliked milk. When I made him coffee and accidentally poured milk, it would go down the sink.
I kinda respected that, he decided not to drink milk and he sticked with decision. It was nothing personal.
I managed to stop drinking an unhealthy amount of cola by switching to sparkly water instead
it is great

Carbonated water has that weird taste though, it's just one of those things which people like which feels strange for me to drink. Someone I know, their mum only drinks sparkling water, costs a bomb in the end.
The best way to give up soda is to be a poor student, I haven't had any in months, all I drink now is water and the odd glass of milk.
I used to drink 2-4 sodas a day. I quit for awhile, and I lost 0 pounds! :v:
Now I only drink 1-2 a day up to about 10, then I only drink water until I get more.
I basically stopped drinking soda about 1 year ago. Before that I easily drank one or two 1.5 liter bottles of coke a day.
Every now and then I still crave for some though and buy myself one 0,5 litre bottle of coke. Usually just buying it stops the craving and it sits in my fridge for days or even weeks before I actually drink it. I just need to find a good substitute to stop completely, up until this point, all the healthy alternatives have tasted bland or just plain bad.
Shit....and I've been drinking diet coke for a long time, thinking it was better for me than the regular soda.
Thank god I stopped.
This is literally nothing but a correlational study. People who buy more diet soda are more likely to have heart disease because of other factors.
There is however, a direct correlation between aspartame and raised risk for pancreatic and gall bladder cancer. I've spent the last three months going from home to the CTCA Midwest with a friend's mom for gall bladder cancer, and her primary physician there asked her point blank when they got her charts and records how much diet coke she drank first thing without asking IF she drank it, and the answer was two a day.
The soda itself is not fine.
Show me a study please, one doctor's claims is not proof. Aspartame is one of the most heavily studied chemicals in our food.
I just need to find a good substitute to stop completely, up until this point, all the healthy alternatives have tasted bland or just plain bad.
Imo there is no healthy alternative to soda. Soda is soda, there is no other thing like it. You drink it or you don't.
But I like diet... >:
People on this forum should keep in mind that the dangers of aspartame are as credible as the dangers of an MMR vaccine.

Yeah I only drink seltzers now and it's just as refreshing as a soda with 100% less unhealthiness
Reasons people drink diet soda:
It's healthier
It has caffeine
It is an alternative to other non-soda drinks
They like poisoning themselves with aspatame
It tastes good to them
just so we're clear here.

Brother! My mom started out with pepsi max, I took a liking to it and now we're both addicted to it.
I drink a lot of water but every now and then I'll have a Red Bull or a Fanta just to spice things up.
I'm not one for diet sodas usually, but Pepsi Max is delicious
Why not drink Pepsi or Jones? Hell even Sarsaparilla fills in that need for a bitter taste.
To me at least, Pepsi is way too 'sweet', diet Pepsi is pretty good in moderate amounts though; but I stiller prefer Diet Coke. As for not going with other Sodas, I've tried Jones and Sarsaparilla, but I like bawls better, and when I can't get bawls, usually Jones or Sarsaparilla aren't available either, so it'd just down to diet coke or diet pepsi.
