Every single anime I've watched has had exactly the same problems. EVERY single one. They include:
-Absolutely abysmal writing
-Horrifically bad voice acting
-1-dimensional characters drawn from stock archetypes
Even the few ones I enjoyed, like Spirited Away, were like this. They were enjoyable because they happened to make up for their terrible writing and acting in other ways, usually with creative visuals. But I have never, ever seen an anime that is impressive or even passable on an intellectual level. It's like the whole of Japanese culture frowns upon reflection and critical thought.
