Actually he made a big post about it and it's because he has made smart life choices that he can afford to spend 1300 dollars on a video game.
Avoiding spoilers is easy though honestly, both SMTIV: Final and Steins;Gate 0 have been out in Japan for months and I haven't had any trouble avoiding spoilers for either.
I am aware that both are smaller releases but still.
Yeah I agree it's easy to avoid spoilery stuff (what is there to spoil? some dev tweets suggest there is something) but this guy clearly didn't feel like it.

I don't really care how successful anyone gets, flaunting wealth like this is just stupid.
people forget that to someone with a shitload of money a bit more than $1000 isn't as much as it is to the average joe. remember, there are also like $100 ice cubes out there.

Shitty yes, but this leak for make or break the sales of the game. That's a lot of power.
How his he flaunting wealth? Somebody was selling it and he bought it.
Do you also get angry at people who buy expensive things because they want them? Is that flaunting your wealth?
I guess flaunting wealth in the sense that myself and everyone else stated in the thread.
Paying over a grand for a game that's going to be released in a week.
But alas yeah, no need for me to get worked up over it.
As far as I can tell, the videos have been removed
Any alternate mirror?
Kinda reminds me of Rust's 'Dutch Auction' and how much money people were willing to pay for a key to an early access game.

What are you talking about flaunting wealth? The person that sold it was selling it for 2000 dollars. He didn't just throw money out until he got a copy of the game.

That looks okay.. but for 60 bucks? I can't justify buying that game at that price. Sorry, I'll have to wait for a sale.
I feel like this game's biggest mistake was presenting itself at E3 at and The Video Game Awards and presenting itself in such a huge way on such a huge stage. The expectations seem to be running rampant and the dialogue about what exactly the game is seems vague and evasive and it will never live up to anyone's expectations, and might be something perhaps intriguing/bold but not conventionally interesting or fun to play. The premise and the scope the creators are aiming for, and the phenomenons they talk about that they experience when taking in that scale they talk about, if they can be successful in some way with that then I think this game will be pretty neat.
Unfortunately, they got a handful of the hottest shit in the world rn and everyone's looking up with their tongues out waiting for a taste ;)

Jealous, much? That guy has zero reason to give a shit about what you think of him spending lots of money :v:
Plus I'm not sure how you consider this "flaunting wealth"; he bought a product he genuinely wanted. It's not like he just threw over a thousand dollars into a crowd for no reason.
So... uh apparently the whole point of the game is supposed to be a sort of hundreds of hours long race to the center right? The one guy, the single guy who has the early copy stated that he has already made his way to near the center, like, within 12 hours of him having a copy.

why would they have the servers turned on anyways

It's less about racing to the center and more about just exploring all the numerous planets and discovering new things or dicking around on them and so forth. Although it doesn't surprise if even the scale of the game generally pales in comparison to what they were making it out to be.
This is not an MMO. There's so many planets that catalogueing the species on each planet, naming the planet is going to take years upon years until No Man's Sky is completely catalogued.
This sounds like FPS spore. How many "Cocktavius vii" planets are we gonna see

our sun will burn out before no man's sky is completely catalogued
Guy has more money than brains if he's willing to pay $1.2k for a silly video game.
I'd almost bet it's going to be some well known streamer that's likely to make significantly more money from a video showcasing the game.
our sun will burn out before no man's sky is completely catalogued
well yeah no one will be playing it a month from now considering it's literally spore 2.0

If I understand correctly, you play locally, but if you run into another player it goes into MP.
The only other online part is the database of names you give things.

From what I understand, if two people manage to end up on the same planet, they will still play singleplayer, but see the content created by the other person each time they load a new area. There is no multiplayer as we understand it, just a shared, persistent universe.

That's quite wrong even within the realm of confusion that NMS multiplayer resides in. If two players are near each other, they supposedly appear on each others' galactic maps. They will be able to see each other in-game. Changes you make to planets are normally saved locally for you only. Other players who arrive after you will see the planet as it was before you arrived. But if you spend time on the planet at the same time, both your actions will be saved locally on both your computers.
But at this point I don't trust anything we've heard about the game at all what with some baffling details we're hearing from the guy who has the early copy. Don't have any expectations besides what we've explicitly seen, because a lot of the statements we've heard in the past are being contradicted by this dude.

well thats a little far fetched considering the games not even out yet. how bout we just hold off on both thinking its another spore or the 2nd coming of jesus

Probably should have mentioned the guy found an exploit/"questionable design choice" that allowed him to farm warp fuel so he could just blast his ass to the center, and even then it took him about 30+ hours to do so.
A person playing the game normally would probably fall more into what they were advertising.

"Since I can't afford the nice things that this guy can, I resent him"
He's not flaunting anything. A grand isn't even that much.

For a game about to be released in 9 days, yes, it is.
This guy hasn't bought a one of a kind collectible item or indeed anything that makes this not $1,240 too much in 9 days time.

What he got from this:
1. He's able to legitimately claim that he's the first person to ever own the game, sans the developers
2. He got in the news
3. He gets to post a ton of preview content and get even MORE media attention
Being in the news is pretty fucking cool, and if you have a ton of money to chuck around then 1000 dollars for a game you really want early AND to earn the envy of every other fan seems like it's worth it
I don't even care about the game that much but I can see why someone would do it if they had a job and extra money to spend on "whatever". There's a decent chance that he's either rich or that he didn't want to spend it on anything else.
I wouldn't call that flaunting. as far as I've heard he hasn't been bragging about it or rubbing the fact in people's faces. He found a thing, had the money for it. and decided he'd still get it because he wanted it early.
The location of the Stones/Fuel is VERY specific, it's a VERY important location / theme in the game, none of this is by chance and they clearly meant to make it special.
Atlas Stones are one of the green trade items you can loot to sell to the galactic market. Every time you go to a certain place (pretty easy to find) you get one. They sell for a TON of units. I'm talking like ten times more than anything in the game. And they're dirt simple and free to get.
It's completely trivialized units for me.
And at the same location are TWO free Warp Fuels. So you can just immediately bone out to the next system, find the next spot with these free things, rinse repeat
I really don't see how this can be spun as an exploit.
