Trey and Matt were right. We're living in satire.

Imprisonment would do nothing for the family or the mentally ill.
He should still be closely monitored. It's not like schizophrenia is the flu. He's already demonstrated what he's capable of.
This is setting up for them to find 30 bodies under the floorboards in a few years.
Oh god, the pictures from this case scarred me for life.
Really hope they know what they're doing.
well thats absolutely horrifying. imagine knowing that if you stopped taking your prescribed medications, you would essentially drift into a sea of mixed consciousness, being only vaguely aware of yourself committing horrific actions and not being in full control & able to stop it, and also simultaneously thinking that it's an OK thing to do because your brain can't process input properly.

morbid curiosity urged me to look into this until I learned that pictures from this case were never released. you were most likely looking at something else.
His meds are working it seems, I would say this is exactly how the court system should work.
He's shown he's rehabilitated.
I'm ok with this
Let's imagine for a minute that you're living on your own and looking for a roommate and this guy responds. Ignoring factors that may influence your decision like his age, are you personally willing to put his rehabilitation to the test by accepting?
You could say that for anyone that has ever committed any crime.
Everyone would rather have a clean-slate Joe who has never done anything wrong in his life.
If you're not willing to treat them like normal members of society then how can you support it in the first place?
Everyone who has a choice would choose to be around non former criminals but not everyone has that choice.
I support rehabilitated people being released. That does not mean I would be comfortable with one living with me.
Can those two feelings not co-exist?
From where I'm standing it seems hypocritical. If you really believed the rehabilitation process was sound you wouldn't have a problem with it.

You can believe in the system or idea of rehabilitation itself while still having healthy skepticism. It isn't infallible and acting like it is would be ignorant.
The severity of the crime also comes into play. Are you telling me you'd be just as comfortable living with someone who was imprisoned for theft as with someone imprisoned for beheading/cannibalism?

Not really? The guy may be rehabilitated, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to have him as a neighbor.

It sure isn't going to do any favors if he does it again.
Rehabilitated or not I wouldn't let this guy near me or anyone I cared about. I just can't trust someone who cannibalized another person even if they had no control. Sure he's fine now, but that doesn't mean he's cured. Dude could be a ticking time bomb.

If it happens again god forbid! I think he'd be institutionalized for life.
