Observe America's unparalleled ability to bully other countries into doing what we want.
Why does it have to be the US? Even if this is politically motivated, and I do not think it is, Britain could just as easily be the one pulling the strings.
This thread is a circlejerk of 13-year-olds and neckbeards apparently all going through the "fuck authority" stage.
Even if what he's currently released isn't directly endangering to national security (though some of it pretty nearly is), he's undermining government authority. Wake the fuck up people, that's not heroic, that's dangerous. We don't live in some pseudo-fascist government, real life isn't V for Vendetta. He thinks he's above the law and seems to be working toward making the rest of us think that, too. How the hell is that a good thing?

Because the US is such an awful, bullshitty country, obviously. We're all fat war-mongerers being swayed by our secret-keeping government.
[sp]If you believe the idiots spawning in this thread, that is.[/sp]

Because someone who is above the law turns himself in to British authorities.
Try harder, though.

I just like watching the shit storm from the media and how the governments handle the situation.
Wikileaks is still going to run and they're going to gain more publicity or possibly make a major mark in history if people execute or arrest Assange.
Or they'll shut down the site.

Governments need to be accountable and their citizens need to be able to know how their county is being run. What's the point in voting when you're not making any informed decisions?

There are some information that the public does not need to know.

Hes was going to get caught sooner or later. It's better for him to be arrested on his own terms.
There are some information that the public does not need to know.
Stop making this argument. We're not talking a "The Watchmen" style secret that lead to a massive nuclear war. We're talking "Oh, that's what I pay my taxes for? Fuck that!" secrets.

I don't think you understand the point of Wikileaks.
There are some information that the public does not need to know.
Military information, which the vast majority of wikileaks' documentation isn't, so I mostly support them. Showing that a government is whacked out paranoid, civilian casualties are higher that you know or that bank managers are fucking people over NEEDS to be public information.
So... governments are going to make a martyr out of him, and they don't even realize that.
Ya can count on my sword, Assange! :hist101:
People keep bitching about bad confidential information getting out. Show me some hard evidence of stuff that I shouldn't be seeing, and then I'll see to you that you get an 'agree' rating.
i like how everyone that supports what hes doing is 13-20 and lives with their parents. Yes he released some stuff showing injustices, but he also released a bunch of bullshit that didn't need to go public at all
Nice generalization there.
And my axe!

They're arguing from the fear of knowledge, which is completely stupid unless we're living in some sort of espionage film. Call me crazy, but I like to see how these groaning bureaucracies manage to exert their will.

There, your answer from the mouth of an Assange-supporter. Doing this is only going to increase the stupidly huge support.

Somebody will likely say the list of places that "DAMAGE NATIONAL SECURITY" which in actuality are industries that foreign diplomats believe are vital.

Just stop. Someone having supporters doesn't make them think they're "above the law."

It's not that the information he's already released is necessarily directly detrimental, it's that what he stands for, I.E. freedom of all information, is not an honorable goal. Again, we don't fucking live in some conspiracy movie, we live in a fairly respectable government.

If we don't live in a conspiracy movie, then what's the harm in releasing documents?
Just stop. Someone having supporters doesn't make them think they're "above the law."
Releasing information that governments were clearly trying to keep confidential is, however.
fairly respectable government.
So why don't we try to make it more respectable. Every presidential administration has scandals. it's just the seriousness of the ones that are caught.
Look at Nixon and watergate. We'll have ten watergates if we support this kind of thing. I want to see radical support for this movement. America, and the rest of the modern world is going through immense changes, why not facilitate that process.
Releasing information that governments were clearly trying to keep confidential is, however.
Right, sorry, I forgot governments were above accountability. Carry on.
If we don't live in a conspiracy movie, then what's the harm in releasing documents?
Ninja edit, I see. (Previously, he said "Using your logic, Bieber thinks he's above the law.)
And the harm is that there is, in fact, some information that should not be free.
Releasing information that governments were clearly trying to keep confidential is, however.
And who decides that it should be kept confidential?
I don't see why this forum is in love with that guy. Yeah he's shown a couple of noteworthy things, but it seems like his main purpose is here is more just to "piss off the world" and personally, if this kept going, I think we would see it doing more harm than good.

So far it's done more good than bad.

They don't want all information public, they censor blatantly dangerous information themselves and have help from some "experts", whoever they are, for anything they don't catch.
Right, sorry, I forgot governments were above accountability. Carry on.
Accountability is very different from freedom of all information.
Accountability is very different from freedom of all information.
