I agree, the government should be transparent and honest out of its own will. But it's not, and sure as shit has no motivation to be. So this is the only way to get this information out. The US may try some reactionary measures to secure their data more, but they know that they're always susceptible to leaks and that's why they're so scared, and trying every goddamn thing they can to destroy wikileaks and turn the public against them.

You can't share everything with everyone... There needs to be some kind of secrets for the sake of national security.
Because these documents are the truth. And because the US is trying to suppress it so seriously.
Because they're classified documents. Do you think we should not have classified documents?
Because they're classified documents. Do you think we should not have classified documents?
The public needs to know if their government is covering up their own crimes.
We need to keep secrets!
The public needs to know if their government is covering up their own crimes.
At what cost, jeopardizing the safety of the public? Fuck no. I'd rather not have to worry about getting blown up by a Muslim with a bomb strapped to his chest, or getting blown up by an IED while driving down 95.

really digging the thinly veiled racism in this post
It is all ways better to know then to not know.
This enable us to make the right choices.

If you believe most of the pro-WikiLeaks people.

And I agree. But this is most definitely not the way to go about getting secrets out of the government.
What if this guy released everything about your personal life. Would you still love him so?
really digging the thinly veiled racism in this post
Not really, it just so happens that some of our most dangerous enemies at the moment happen to be Muslim.
The public needs to know if their government is covering up their own crimes.
I hear ya, but... if our own government was responsible for <insert horrendous and inhumane deed here>... would you really want to know?
I mean, seriously

Shows how much you know about who hates America.

Yes, so we can kick them out and try someone better.
;26553501']Finally! this should have happened long ago. He is a criminal for breaking the Espionage Act of 1917. He would be guilty of treason if only he had a alleagence to the U.S.A. He may still be guilty of treason to other countries he released thing related to.
And your point is? He has not committed any of those crimes listed the people who have committed the crimes are the people who leak the documents to wikileaks, wikileaks is doing nothing more than newspapers have done for decades.
Not to mention he has been arrested on suspicion of rape (or sex by surprise) not any other crime so anyone who thinks this is his acts finally catching up with is quite frankly a fucking moron. It may be politically motivated but the fact still stands he has been arrested for rape and rape only. About 10 pages ago I compared this current situation (with people reacting as if justice has finally caught up with releases) to a hypothetical situation wherein Bush gets arrested for something simple and people treat it as if he has been arrested for war crimes. Which is an utterly stupid, but that is really what it comes down to in simple terms.
For the sake of national security and law, we need to shut this guy down and kill him.
HAHAHAHAHA

Yeah, I think so. Many terroristic attacks have been committed in the name of bizarre, extremist Islamic beliefs. That's not an opinion, it's an unfortunate fact.
The public needs to know if their government is covering up their own crimes.
That's not what I asked, though. Do you think the government should be able to keep classified documents?
Not really, it just so happens that some of our most dangerous enemies at the moment happen to be Muslim.
You don't get it
It's implying that revealing that the US is committing war crimes in the middle east is going to provoke someone who, in all likelihood, knows this shit is happening already and is witnessing it firsthand to come over, build a bomb and put it in the middle of some freeway. Someone who probably couldn't get over into the US anyways because of background checks and money and other visa shit. As if that is even a remotely likely threat.
I mean, 9/11 happened pretty much because the US kept giving billions of dollars and military assets to Israel, which was public knowledge.
That's not what I asked, though. Do you think the government should be able to keep classified documents?
The US is classifying documents to cover up its own actions. That is my issue. Not of classified documents in general.
;26554500']For the sake of national security and law, we need to shut this guy down and kill him.
Ehhhh I'm definitely not going that far. I don't think governments should go around mysteriously silencing people who are speaking out against the actions of the country, because then we would be living in V for Vendetta. What I'm arguing, though, is that there are many better ways to voice this dissent that releasing a bunch of classified documents.
;26554500']For the sake of national security and law, we need to shut this guy down and kill him.
What a brilliant idea, kill all the editor in chiefs of newspapers as well, most newspapers have published leaked documents over the years.
While your suggesting such sensible things you should also suggest that the US government bomb al Jazeera because they publish things on behalf of terrorists. Oh wait they considered doing that, and it was kindly leaked and published by a newspaper.
;26554500']For the sake of national security and law, we need to shut this guy down and kill him.
Whose national security and law? Certainly not yours.
It's not really the fact that it's classified. It's the fact that the government takes mundane things and calls them classified. That's a breach of trust and should be frowned upon.
I love how wikileaks is only streaming a few cables at a time. It means that we are constantly updated and remember what they're doing. Rest assured that if they released everything at once, then people would forget so soon.
---
BTW, rate me dumb or whatever, but I'll always remember the wikileak of 'collateral murder' and appreciate what wikileaks has done about this. Despite whatever else they release.
---
I haven't really paid attention to this whole wiki links. Can someone do me a quick run down of it?
From what i understand This guy made a website that brought to light several documents with a lot of info about a lot things that the governments don't like, so they've been out to get this guy.

Which is a slightly ridiculous statement, yes, but I still fail to see how it's racism. The mention of "Muslim" is just because that's the area in which we are (or were depending on how you look at it) in a war.
This is a stupid argument anyways, I'll just leave it to the mods to decide.
The US is classifying documents to cover up its own actions. That is my issue. Not of classified documents in general.
So you do think the U.S. should be able to keep classified documents? It's a yes or no question.

According to poles most of the Muslims in the middle east support Al Queada. Many would also like to see segregation between men and women and think that Muslims should be killed if they convert to another religion.
So you do think the U.S. should be able to keep classified documents? It's a yes or no question.
I'm not answering with a yes or no because it's obviously loaded. I've made my stance clear.
