People think EA Threatens to ban for asking for refunds over SimCity- actually just getting autobann

EA has been nothing but amalgamation of PR disasters and awful choices. Why anyone would continue to buy games from them is beyond me. I fucking love Simcity but dealing with the bullshit that comes pre-packaged in every EA title isn't worth it to me anymore. It sucks, man.

He states right in that picture that he is going to report this as fraud to his bank and have them follow through.
Aka he's threatening with a chargeback.
I feel betrayed. I can never trust a bit of text from the Internet again.
it's okay. I read on a forum 10 years ago lemonparty.org had free starcraft macro hacks
They had similar problems when ME3 was released, banning people from Origin.
But that was just people with aspergers going 'i dont like the ending waaa give my money back'
I've asked for refunds all the time and they only do it once for that account as a one time gift.
I've done it twice, but those were for pre-orders not already released games so its probably different.
They had similar problems when ME3 was released, banning people from Origin.
That's different. That was a bunch of butthurt ME fanboys raging with their collective autistic angst over the ending. This is "EA massively cocked up the Simcity release and is mad at the consumers for reacting negatively to their cock-up."
Seriously, stop buying EA products, let it crash. Its sad that all those industry people would loose their jobs, but the shareholder-sucking companies need to be taught a serious lesson.
ea wants to steal money
munney munney munney $$$
and ignore the customers
I know chargebacks are fucking annoying, last place I worked for had to deal with hundreds of them every month. People would call or go online, pay their ticket, and then immediately turn around and do a chargeback. Every time it happens, we have to one by one call them, email them, and send them a letter explaining that they contacted us, accepted our terms of service, and authorized that charge.
I can be perfectly understanding of a company who would immediately ban a user if they chargeback the card, but anything else is unacceptable.
Way to stay classy EA
This isn't greedy marketing, this is stranglehold black mail.

Good job trusting shitty copy-cat game journalism articles. How about you guys read for once and make a sound decision about what's going on.
EA will punish you if you do a straight up chargeback, like VIRTUALLY EVERY ESTABLISHMENT THAT ACCEPTS CREDIT CARDS. This isn't their "evil stranglehold money grubbing" tactic, it's pretty common to deal with chargebacks harshly. They're an annoyance and are inconvienient for everyone.

Not respecting consumer laws of other countries sounds awfully comic book villainy to me.

Valve does the same thing. Literally the same thing.

Also thanks to whomever changed the title. That's the only thing that posters read anyways.
Scratch that, they see the word "EA" and start crying
I changed the title and quoted the post about what's actually happening in the OP, calm your butts people
Still, many countries have a law that allows you to return any product you bought within 14 days of arrival and get a full refund (unless of course the product has been damaged). That means that if EA want to sell in those countries, everybody who demands a refund must get one.

Sure if you ask for it I imagine they will. Hell they even offered it. But chargebacks will get you banned because it's a dick thing to do.

Acting like a dick to CS is pretty lousy. You can tell he went into chat chat in order to get a screencap he could get upvoted on Reddit.

I feel sorry for the guys working at customer support. It's really not their fault, yet the customers treat them like shit.
Shitty fucking article
I hate that this is spreading around. I'm loathing EA right now because I spent $60 ($40 after the store credit I got for pre-ordering it, which is why I preordered vs waiting) for a game that I've not been able to comfortably play at all since release, but this is simply false shitty reporting that this is spreading around.
EA does not ban for asking for refunds on SimCity. They ban you if you force a chargeback on your Origin account, and it's not something that happens with a push of the button, a chargeback causes automatic bans. AKA you SHOULD get a refund through EA and not through your CC company (chargeback) because that way you avoid the auto-ban.
AFAIK other companies to the same exact thing. Steam for example last I heard bans your account if you chargeback on them as well. This is because chargebacks cost money and its an "easy" way to try an get free stuff.
Seems like people were already jumping on the wagon before this post. As usual.
I feel sorry for the guys working at customer support. It's really not their fault, yet the customers treat them like shit.
Its unfortunate, but it is just what happens. Its similar to what happens with people getting angry at the waiting staff in restaurants over problems that are not the fault of the wait staff. They do it largely because they need to vent and they want to yell at the people responsible, but the closest they can get is the customer service/wait staff. Doesn't mean they should do it, but I don't blame them for it.

Reminds me of the people who railed on the Mass Effect 3 PR guys on Twitter last year. They didn't make the goddam game, they're just repping for it.
Send an angry email to the developers, don't fuck with the guy trying to do his job.
[editline]8th March 2013[/editline]
If you've worked or know somebody who has worked as customer service or in a retail/fast food job, you know how frequently people bitch at you for shit you can't change. This ordeal is no different.
Didn't buy Simcity 5, Not going to cause of the DRM.
Wow.. just wow. EA just give up, it's a singleplayer game. We don't NEED to have multiplayer, to have fun, you remember what fun is right?
Send an angry email to the developers, don't fuck with the guy trying to do his job.
Are you suggesting that a refund is the concern of the developers, and not the job of customer support?

Well valve does it, so it MUST be okay because valve is an awesome company :downs:

Thinking that their policies override local laws or somehow protect them from it....

To my knowledge Steam never refused to refund a game that doesn't work.

Well yeah I know that, I just hate it when people can't defend their point of view so they resort to using other examples of fowl play in the legal world.
