yes, a great point to make. everyone knows that someone, based on their avatar in relation to their own point and disregarding the factor of relevance, automatically loses their logical validity when you point out their visual representation on an online forum.
His point is still dumb and hypocritical due to his avatar. Saying 2D games aren't a valid market to aim for is such a shitty claim [editline]18th December 2015[/editline]
yikes, sick zinger there unfortunately one single 2d game is pretty different from an entire console based around them so im not sure what your point is
There's a whole demographic of people that don't play 3D games because it makes them sick or disoriented. I can think of at least 15 people I know personally that will probably get this console if it takes off.

Also, no, me saying that a console can't possibly survive on 2d sprite games alone is not hypocrisy just because I happen to like one single game that meets that profile.

The games on this thing will be games that aim solely at "nostalgia" of 16-bit games.

It goes without saying that this type of market will only take off if the pricing stands out.
I'm afraid I don't really see the point For emulation a modded Wii already works excellently for 16 bit games and are like $40 used. This seems odd
Also, no, me saying that a console can't possibly survive on 2d sprite games alone is not hypocrisy just because I happen to like one single game that meets that profile.
Yeah I'll admit to being wrong there. This seems odd
The problem is there's lots of 16 bit games that are being released in this century now too. Stuff like Nidhogg and BroForce and Undertale can't just be emulated on the Wii.
Oh look, another console by a company that everyone's already forgotten. Throw it in the pile next to that Neo Geo X that nobody bought.
It all really depends on the pricing of the unit and games. The facebook post mentioning it was removed so it might of changed, but for that price you can get a Wii U or refurbished PS4.
someone should make a cart bases system that is for modern games, i imagine that storage space for assets would never be an issue

I'd totally get it if they canned the cartridge idea and made it digital only, but made the games way cheaper. [editline]18th December 2015[/editline]
someone should make a cart bases system that is for modern games, i imagine that storage space for assets would never be an issue
Cartridges the size of a PS3.
Cartridges the size of a PS3.
Yeah, in the 80's maybe [t]http://gearnuke.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/micro-sd-anroid-big.png[/t] You could fit GTA V in there almost two times. And let's not forget the size of SSD's
Last I heard, it was going to be $300+ with games around $20-$50.
Yeah, in the 80's maybe [t]http://gearnuke.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/micro-sd-anroid-big.png[/t] You could fit GTA V in there almost two times. And let's not forget the size of SSD's
Hahaha oh my god what was I thinking
That's about 10 times the price of a Raspberry Pi
Pi Zero can probably play more games than it, and its $5

I know they had stuff about 12 years ago on SD card sized media (hell, there was even SDIO for stuff like cameras and wireless cards) but MicroSD cartridges would be lost way too fucking easily.
Its controller makes it look like one of those "Ultimate Gaming Systems" that are just an NES/Atari on a chip made to look like a popular console. Not knocking this, I just get that vibe from that controller.
Its literally a knockoff wiiu pro controller with a different name on it [thumb]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61DrnXtLMUL._SL1000_.jpg[/thumb]
Wow are these guys trying to kickstart this shit again? Google Retro VGS and walk on. This console will never be.

Storage smaller than the size of a PS3? I don't understand what you are talking about
Cartridges the size of a PS3.
considering we have 2.5" solid state drives that go up to like 2TB here in 2015 i'm gonna go ahead and say you're full of shit [editline]18th December 2015[/editline] haha whoops i didn't see the 2nd page of this thread, beaten
I just can't wrap my head around it. Cartridges are more expensive than digital storage devices to produce and require more stipulations be met by game devs who could much more easily (and cheaply) create games for smartphones, PCs, or digital download on modern consoles which would reach a much wider audience. If the cartridges ARE simply standard digital storage devices in cartridge shells then that just makes the new cartridges needlessly expensive facades. And then there's the matter that Coleco isn't necessarily a strong brand, people shopping for nostalgia still have the option to cheaply buy the original systems and games (or simple plug-n-play ports for cheap)... I just don't see how this makes any kind of business sense.
The design isn't the problem. The problem is it's a recolor of a specific brand of bootleg Wii U pro controllers, which are NOTORIOUSLY shitty for being broke right out of the box, I know when I picked one up the piece of shit wouldn't synch to anything and the synch button was actually broke, being wedged deep inside the controller itself This is gonna be another trainwreck to add to the pile
I know which one you're talking about, and you're right about them being bad, but that doesn't necessarily mean those ones will be bad too. Unless they're made by the same people, that is. They'd probably be better off selling the molds as Raspberry Pi or Mini ITX cases. I'd love a Jaguar Pi.
My whole thing is, most of the 2D "retro" games are developed and played on PCs, and it's a more attractive option to develop on a PC because you don't need to get licensing agreements or any bullshit like that, and there are plenty of methods to distribute your games available. You have more system resources to work with, an open platform to develop on, so what is this guy offering that makes it attractive in any way, shape or form to developers? Besides that, even the modern "retro" titles are developed to run in 32 to 64-bit environments, so unless his system is a 32 or 64-bit system with a "retro" coat of marketing wank slathered on it you're going to have a very limited library unless he gets deals to release classic titles on it, most of which you can probably already play through emulators for "free" anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same manufacturer with a new coat of paint
I'll get what on a micro SD card? Storage smaller than the size of a PS3? I don't understand what you are talking about
Someone made a statement that a cartridge these days could be the size of a MicroSD card. I was striking down that trace of an idea before people though it would be awesome.
Isn't cartridge technology all the rage in rural China?
Someone made a statement that a cartridge these days could be the size of a MicroSD card. I was striking down that trace of an idea before people though it would be awesome.
That was not what I was saying. I was proving the point that a cartridge shouldn't have to be the size of a PS3 to fit a game since storage technology has gotten a hell of a lot smaller.
Isn't cartridge technology all the rage in rural China?
Is it? Or is that just because of the continued popularity of the famicom over there due to the (only recently lifted) video game ban?
... How is that any different from a playstation or xbox controller?
I hold Xbox controllers like this sometimes Can't seem to do that, here.
