Also, how would you say the Cthulhu Mythos is "overrated"? I don't quite see what you mean.
i just don't like the way lovecraft, and i guess stephen king as well, are all people seem to know when it comes to horror literature. frankly i don't know that much about it either and i'm not trying to come off as any sort of expert, but i think people could be just a tad more critical in recognizing their strengths and weaknesses. i just wish there was more space for lesser known writers is all
pacific metal cthulu hills of the enders
Quiet Mounds
Soundless Plateaus
silent hill hasnt been good since 3
leave it and start again
Hopefully they get Norman Reedus back on the role, because there'll be people out there that'll pay attention to it because of him.
Reedus sounded really into silent hills so I'll bet he's up for discussions.
whisper mountain. sounds badass and if they get sued, whisper is a noise and silent isn't.
Too bad they can't use the Fox Engine. Still, they'll make something great.

fox engine is still property of hideo kojima and konami at the same time
I hope it's just a renamed Silent Hills as a giant fuck you to Konami
Kojima has so many contacts in the industry i doubt he'll be having issues with rounding up a team and finance.
Whatever they come up with is bound to be gold and certainly set to breath life into the horror genre in games.
That'd be really cool, not enough lovecraftian games out there. While Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of The Earth and Eternal Darkness are great games, the only recent lovecraftian game we've had was Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and I'd even argue it's the most lovecraftian game tbh.
So Bloodborne didn't happen? That's like the most Lovecraftian game in recent years. Hunting and killing cosmic great ones, tentacle monsters, becoming insane, spooky ass moons and eating umbilical chords of said great ones.

I'm actually amazed how Lovecraftian Bloodborne was, damn Japanese beat us at our own game.

I haven't actually played Bloodborne, but yeah you may be right.
I'd be interested in seeing what they can come up with. It would suck though, kojima not being able to use the fox engine. I would want to see what else they can come up with other than horror.
I'm sure it'll be great. Unity or Unreal 4, or whatever else they do will work for what they need I'm sure.
fuck no. del toro and kojima are so amazingly creative i'd much rather see them going for a whole new story rather than an adaptation of an existing (and, imo, overrated) universe
lovecraftian doesn't necessarily mean cthulhu mythos, it's just a collection of themes, much like cyberpunk or dark fantasy. it's just about capitalizing on the fear of the unknown and foreign, which can apply in any sense from the mundane ("oh no a squid monster!" to the metafictional. a horror game with the atmosphere of House of Leaves or a Thomas Ligotti story combined with Kojima's talent for the bizarre and Del Toro's directorial skills could downright give people heart attacks.

Amnesia being a good example of this. Also Darkness Within if you're into point and click and lots of reading.

also applies to the constant state of what is real and whats not real.
This can only be a good thing. Wouldn't be surprised if Del Torro involved Kojima in some of his films, too.

Kojima would be very happy about that I'm sure.
I'd really rather they do something else. Silent Hills showed some potential, but them trying to finish their project after being shut down by everyone wouldn't end well. They're also creative people, so how about an original IP?
