Cancer Study Found E-Cigarettes Affect Cells the Same As Tobacco Smoke
If I had to describe nicotine without the word addictive I'd probably use "nasty chemical shit"
to be fair, it's nasty chemical shit, as opposed to even more nasty chemical shit :v:
are these still bad? I occasionally use my vape just for the flavors (no nicotine), but if it's still bad I don't even wanna risk using it
More harmful than not doing it at all, but, you know, its your choice, plenty of people who smoke hookahs choose to do so even thoug hthey dont use it for the nicotine.
Linking and quoting the definition of the word oblivious without any explaination whatsoever seems pretty oblivious to me.
And about your points about the additives, it's not a good point unless there is some purity rule for e-cig liquids. Is there?
The point is that you don't understand how smoking works for people. It is addicting in two ways, the oral fixation of doing the task, and the actual chemical addiction to nicotine. Depending on the person, one side of this addiction is worse than the other. For me, I'm quitting cold turkey, after smoking since, like end of 8th year in school. The nicotine isn't a huge issue for me, it's the fact that I smoked for fun for so long before it became addicting that I miss the casual smoke of my pipe I had to throw away when I quit. I miss the action more than the effect, and an e-cig would actually help me a lot, if I was willing to buy one. The E-cig is a tool to help quit smoking, it isn't the magic solution, you still have to put in the EFFORT to quit. Personally this involved me going at least a month and a half cold turkey, which I am just a few days shy of if I wanted to even consider things like the e-cig.
I used to smoke a pack of cigs a day, I bought one of those e-cigs and not even a month after I can live days without even touching the damn thing.
I believe they do less harm than the cigs... At least I went from dependent to non dependent in little time...

The study actually didn't mention anything about whether 0% nicotine vapour had any effects either way, they were just testing for cancerous cells developing from the standard fluid with nicotine contents.
The study also said they did 3 tests all running for 10 days - a high intensity flow to represent 'actively inhaling the vapour' (note talking constantly over a 10 day period), a low intensity flow to represent exposure to developed fluids in the lungs tainted with materials from inhaling the vapour, and a control with no vapour exposure. Only the high intensity test developed a noticeable change.
If you're not using an ecig constantly it should still be a lot safer - the study found no issue with long term effects over it's testing period.
Also of note, funding was supported by the National Cancer Institute, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, University of California and Lung Cancer SPORE - not 'Big Tobacco" at all.
All this info is in the abstract paper.

I think my vape pen's limited battery, and it's weight (so I can't leave it hanging on my lip like a cigarette) have reduced my need for it. I think I haven't even spent the same amount of money in the past five months of use as I have on a week's worth of cigarettes. I'm also including the pen itself and replacement parts needed for it, because the tanks tend to get broken through daily wear and tear.
I also feel a hell of a lot better, and I can breathe. Though, let's face it, nicotine is still a drug I'd like to never be dependent on and my ultimate goal is to quit entirely. I'm definitely making some significant progress, I think, and I'm not torturing myself while I do it.
Its funny to think how huge e-cigs have gotten lately. Just in the past year or two I've seen them everywhere. One of my classmates and the tech instructor smoke them in the studio all the time.
I'm pretty sure if it hasn't happened already, it'll become a fashion/style symbol for this period in the century to smoke them much like how "fashionable" it was for women to smoke cigs on those long holders back in the early 20th century.

in most fashion boards i frequent ecig smokers are seen as top dorks
i don't think they'll be seen as style symbols as long as actual cigarettes exist

It can already be pretty classy if you want it to be.
