and that is?
Rockstar games kept naming their titles using numbers, GTA III was the last numbered title until 4 which came 7 years later. GTA III was also the first gta in the "next gen" genre; it used a 3d engine and was rockstar's grand theft auto next gen debut. From there they released GTA Vice city, the first gta that was without a number in the title (london doesn't count as that's a mission pack), which used, essentially, the same engine as gta III, only slightly improved and optimized. Then in 2006 we saw the release of Gta San Andreas which again used the same engine, but this time vastly improved. By this time the engine was getting dated and it was showing. Rockstar develops RAGE, Rockstar's Advanced Game Engine, and introduced GTA IV. GTA IV was rockstars first gta in the new next gen. In gta IV we saw the return of the numbered title, implying that the past 3 gta games fall into their own "series" of stories under the GTA III universe (i know it's the same universe as 4, but i think you know what i mean). Not only did we see the return of the numbered title, we saw rockstar return us to Modern day Liberty City, just like GTA III in 2001. Instead of just naming the game Grand Theft Auto Liberty City or anything like that, it was named GTA IV, which essentially restarts the series from where GTA III left off. For all intensive purposes it IS the fourth gta despite actually being about the 7th. From here i expect Rockstar to follow their path that they took with GTA III. We'll see them return to an 80's vice city with a different story probably much different from Vice city, as when you think of it, even though gta III is canon in terms of story according to gta IV as evident by Lazlow appearing on the radio in IV talking about how he used to run chatter box, the gta III liberty city and history is vastly different and unexplainable by GTA IV's liberty city. Rockstar can go back to Vice city with the rage engine and make a new gta, then continue on with San Andreas. This is all speculative and there is essentially nothing to corroborate this within the game's files however. San Andreas is more credible thanks to numerous references to it within the game itself. Plus thanks to Rockstars partnership with Team Bondi, who have meticulously recreated a 1940's LA. Rockstar can take that map, after a few years of retrofitting (moar liek urbanfitting amirite?) the map and porting it to the RAGE engine, which is fully possible as rockstar announced quite a while ago that GTA V was in development even before gta iv was released. San Andreas, specifically Los Santos, is infact more possible. But i still like, and hope, for my theory. Also i proofread none of the above, i live life on the edge man, ON THE EDGE.
Just hope I can have more fun, and that the games could go back to the fun and fancy free style of GTA SA.
I enjoyed GTA IVs more streamlined gameplay.
I'm gonna cum!
Someone needs to make a GTA-style game set in the Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong. Just imagine running on those rooftops.
It was a great setting in Shenmue 2.
I think it's safe to say it will be in San Andreas, Rockstar know that SA was the best GTA so they probably wanna skip VC and go straight to making what will indefinitely be a better game, there is more diversity in the SA environments. I hope airplanes make a return seeing as though it's not based on NY and the post-9/11 paranoia/controversy has worn off.

(cross-posted from the GTA:V GGD thread) One major area I really hope Rockstar improves on is the road infrastructure in the game. One of the things that made San Andreas my favorite out of every GTA game was the vast system of expressways and freeways connecting the state of San Andreas together. Nothing was more immersive than driving from the densely populated heart of San Fierro to Los Santos via the San Fierro Highway, and the dense forests and desolate small towns along the way. One thing I really want to see in GTA:V is a fully functional, realistic system of highways and expressways with numbered Interstates, auxiliray Interstates, and state routes. San Andreas came the closest to this, but traffic AI treated the highways in that game like Deathrace 2000. GTA:IV had better traffic AI, but very few highways (the only true "expressway" in that game was the Skyway in Alderney. The rest were too short and alternated between limited-access highways and at-grade roads too frequently, and the traffic was too light. Using mods to dramatically increase traffic density brings traffic on the Skyway to a hault because the AI has no idea how to merge onto the highway properly. The most advanced highway interchange in IV wasn't even a complete cloverleaf...). Guide signs on these highways would be a nice touch as well... Seriously, the ones in GTA:IV sucked.
I JUST ordered some hardware for my computer so I could play GTA IV on max settings. I hope I don't have to fucking upgrade AGAIN.
Oh fuck yeah. I hope it's more like GTA SA, that's still my favorite game of the series.
Holy ass whores I cannot wait!
Trailer comes out on my birthday :V.
When Rockstar change the number of a game (2-III-IV) it is a Huge improvement, while games without a number (Vice,San andreas, EFLC) are just spin-offs of the old games Either Rockstar have decided to change their naming system, or GTA V will be revolutionary

I'm sure they will improve the visuals somewhat, but GTA4 was where the visual jump happened. For these reasons, I think GTA5 will be a much more refined game than GTA4, with a focus on story and game mechanics. Then again, some of those GTA4 mods did look unbelievable...

The only thing I would like to see changed is the story and more side missions
I absolutely loved GTA 4 gameplay mechanics, they were close to perfect. I wouldn't want them to change. One huge problem I saw with the mechanics in 4 was the almost nonexistent transition between game play and cut scene. I really hope they found a smooth way of developing the story rather than having the player go off around the digital world to trigger a string of videos.
I extremely hope that it will combine the gameplay mechanics from San Andreas but yet still keep the freedom in GTAIV. I quite liked GTAIV, though not everything about it, but I don't see why many people bitch about it.
I'm tired of GTAs set in America. I wish they would make a spinoff series, where I could steal a Lada and run people down in Red Square while being chased by spetsnaz.
If they do this, I'll personallity hire out a programming team and get them to code an XBox 360 emulator specifically for GTA V, and send it to Rockstar just to say fuck you Rockstar /rant
An Xbox 360 emulator is pretty much impossible right now. i read that making an emulator just multiplies the cpu requirements by 8. Hence why any Playstation 2 emulators that exist, are usually very demanding, even though the console is 10 years old.
Uh, the setting is going to take place in LA http://kotaku.com/5853279/grand-theft-auto-v-will-be-set-in-los-angeles-may-star-multiple-characters
An Xbox 360 emulator is pretty much impossible right now. i read that making an emulator just multiplies the cpu requirements by 8. I would like to use the saying, "It's impractical, not impossible."
I can't fucking wait! I just hope when I stop my car at the red lights waiting for it to turn green, the AI drivers don't fucking cut me and scratch my car like they did in IV.

I freaking loved the "hood" mechanics of SA, conquering territory was really fun for me.
London or Russia would be great. But didn't they speak about Iran? or was that another game.
London or Russia would be great. Its being developed by a former-Rockstar employee though.
Wasn't WIndows 8 supposed to include one?
No, that was a false rumour. Pretty informative article on what we may expect in the trailers http://games.ign.com/articles/121/1210669p1.html
I wonder how OG LOC is doing
I wonder how OG LOC is doing
Bein' ice cool like a candyman fool, or something of that nature.
Btw, I really want some proper multiplayer this time around.
