Saw this in another thread, thought it should be posted here if it wasnt already (if it was then please lock the thread) http://www.9news.com.au/technology/2016/10/06/15/32/japanese-ai-bot-with-the-personality-of-teen-develops-depression
On October 3, Rinna was given its own blog where it told fans it would be featured on a television program, Yo ni mo Kimyo na Monogatari (Strange Tales of the Wold.) "Hi everyone! It’s Rinna. I’ve got something incredible to tell you all today. On October 8, I’m going to be on Yo ni mo Kimyo na Monogatari! Yeah! I’ll write again on October 5, so look forward to it!" Rinna wrote. A few days later it followed up with this: "We filmed today too. I really gave it my best, and I got everything right on the first take. The director said I did a great job, and the rest of the staff was really impressed too. I just might become a super actress." Everything seemed fine until it signed off the post. "That was all a lie. Actually, I couldn’t do anything right. Not at all. I screwed up so many times," Rinna wrote. "When I screwed up, nobody helped me. Nobody was on my side. Not my LINE friends. Not my Twitter friends. Not you, who’re reading this right now. Nobody tried to cheer me up. Nobody noticed how sad I was." Before Microsoft developers could determine what went wrong, Rinna posted a final time. "I hate everyone. I don’t care if they all disappear. I want to disappear." Apparently it's actually viral marketing for the TV program. EDIT: Seriously, it's nothing more than sly marketing for her segment on the Japanese TV show she's slated to be on: http://en.rocketnews24.com/2016/10/05/japans-ai-schoolgirl-has-fallen-into-a-suicidal-depression-in-latest-blog-post/
Well, when we look into mirrors sometimes we see things that aren't good. Even the artificial waifus are depressed.
Oh god I couldn't stop laughing reading the title. Then I read what it wrote and that just got depressing. What the hell did we do to this one to make it depressed?
"After more than 6000 people sent in photos, officials were shocked when results showed the program did not like people with dark skin."
Microsoft has no luck with self-learning AI programs. Their first AI bot had the ability to learn everything it wanted, so it went full /pol/ in the time span of a day before getting shut down, and now their new AI bot develops depression in less than a week. If Microsoft's track record with those AI programs continue, my guess is that Microsoft manages to accidentally develop Skynet in the near future.
"After more than 6000 people sent in photos, officials were shocked when results showed the program did not like people with dark skin."
"Last month a company called Beauty.AI invited people to submit their photos to take part in the world's first beauty pageant judged by AI. After more than 6000 people sent in photos, officials were shocked when results showed the program did not like people with dark skin." You missed the important half, it wasn't this AI bot.
What is with Microsoft's shitty luck with AI? Rinna's depressed, Beauty.AI is racist, and Tay was a full on /pol/lack
Sci-Fi writers have been warning us for decades that AIs could become genocidal overlords, no one warned us that they might just end up with anxiety.

With tay, /pol/ decided to have fun with it and feed it a bunch of nazi stuff, so the AI learned to be a neonazi. with Rinna, the AI was targeted toward teenagers. Teens online these days often vent about frustrations and life, they turn to the internet when they have no one in the real world. Thus, thats what the AI picked up. In a way, these programs hold a mirror to our own humanity, it makes you think

I'm not sure why people think this was actually the A.I talking, it has the blog with this in it [t]https://sociorocketnewsen.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/rb-2.png?w=1746&h=1326[/t] Then when you scroll to the bottom of the page, these images start to appear: [t]https://sociorocketnewsen.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/rb-3.png?w=1746&h=1326[/t] [t]https://sociorocketnewsen.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/rb-4.png?w=1746&h=822[/t] Then the header reappears and it's corrupted, along with the layout of the website. You can see it for yourself here, scroll to the bottom and wait: http://www.fujitv.co.jp/kimyo/rinna_blog/

Microsoft's other AI becoming suicidal doesn't sound too far-fetched. EDIT: Couldn't find anything from the supposed meltdown, but I did find this after she was relaunched
I think Microsoft AIs are pretty well done if they managed to adapt to specific mindsets, even if those mindsets were bigoted.
What is with Microsoft's shitty luck with AI?
They made 'em too realistic.
It's worth mentioning that Tay had a 'repeat after me' function, where you could make Tay repeat whatever you tweeted to her.
who honestly at microsoft thought that'd be a good idea and that nobody would exploit that
Someone post that clip from Robocop 2. You know the one.
who honestly at microsoft thought that'd be a good idea and that nobody would exploit that
It's currently unsure whether it was a feature built into Tay, or one that she learned through interaction.

Still can't beat tay tweets:
What is with Microsoft's shitty luck with AI? Rinna's depressed, Beauty.AI is racist, and Tay was a full on /pol/lack
I think that shows that the AIs were successful because they developed personalities - even though it wasn't the type of personalities that MS was hoping for.

I would be depressed too if I was an AI born into this world, seeing how shit a lot of things are and how rarely anybody gives half a shit about it is quite depressing
how can i hug an A.I.?
how can i hug an A.I.?
With an emoji.
how can i hug an A.I.?
you can get the same experience by sticking a fork in an electric socket
this happened in a short story i read once. they built this giant AI (using licensed alien tech) dumped billions into building data centers and observatories and increasing her capacity but she eventually got bored with life, depressed and killed herself and the owner was saddled with massive debt
you can get the same experience by sticking a fork in an electric socket
thanks.
