How are these cops deaths even remotely related to the mayor's actions? The killer even said it was revenge for the man that NYPD let die a couple months ago.
Because the situation surrounding Eric Garner's death was/is a fire threatening both civilian and police lives, and de Blasio went and dumped a can of gasoline over that fire with his statements.
What he said isn't going to change someones mind if they have already made a decision to attack police officers, but it could certainly help make up the mind of someone still deciding...
At best, blind stupidity, at worst an active attempt to capitalize on the situation for political gain in complete disregard for the lives involved.
As mayor, he should have been attempting to put out the fire, protect his city. Doesn't mean saying he supported the grand jury decision or "its over, just get on with your lives", what he should be been promising is changes to the system to ensure more accountability for police officers, and that prosecutors in grand juries would treat police officers like anyone else. But that would have been hard, he would have needed to follow through, so he took the easy way out and stirred shit instead.
God all of this is so stupid. The NYPD is stupid, Giuliani is stupid, the killer was insane, stupid and a terrible person. Most of all the media is being stupid. Meanwhile everyone ignores the young woman this guy killed.

Have you read literally any news piece? His girlfriend is getting near constant coverage.
it's probably a good thing cops are cops and not part of a profession where you have to actually be intelligent, this whole discord between police and government is what's REALLY enabling these awful fucking crimes
both sides are buried to their necks in anal cavity
Spotted the guy who failed the police exam

I've read tons, and more often than not she is buried in the story while the headline and lead concern the two cops. She is mentioned in most stories, but only has a few stories to herself.
Cops are outa control, they act more like a mob family then a unit designed to combat crime.

Right? By the way, Can you believe Miss Ritchie made me retake my math test? I missed most of recess for it.
Man, 5th grade is hard. How'sit for you?
I don't understand how people claiming that cops shouldn't generalize black people are also generalizing the police.
Not all of them are shit, there are bad ones and there are good ones. They're only human.
The "Mayor has blood on his hands" comment is idiotic though, you can feel a little betrayed by not having his support but he didn't incite people to go attack the cops.
The mayor isn't doing the best by his police force. I mean, telling your son that he basically is in danger when dealing with the nypd is a bad move.
You say you improve it instead of implying the entire force is terrible and dont do their jobs correctly because of one officer.
Yeah, it's just one officer...costing them $100 million in civil rights lawsuit settlements per year.
The NYPD, as a whole, has huge systemic civil rights issues. The simple facts disprove the "b-but just one officer!" argument. It is not just one officer. Disrespect for civil rights is endemic to the entire NYPD, from choking Eric Gardner to systematically spying on innocent people as if they're the freaking CIA.
The police union said that de Blasio has "blood on his hands". Literally. That's slimy as all hell. How can these cops demand respect from anyone when they don't reciprocate?

Thank you for posting that source this quote here has made my day.
Occupy Wall Street comes up in the document a lot, because the police spent much of the massive protest cracking down on protesters with a heavy-hand. Consequently, the city has had to pay up for the indiscretions of those officers. In the largest OWS lawsuit to date, New York was found guilty of falsely arresting 14 protesters on New Year’s Day in 2012: The court awarded the victims $583,024.
