Does anyone know what SimCity 2015's first day sales were?
SimCity 2015 sold no copies, as far as I know.

To make some people laugh?
I grabbed a copy for $12 on Kinguin. Haven't actually tried it yet, but definitely can't wait to play. Tropico 4 sparked an interest in me for these types of games.
It's funny, EA and other AAA developers are so afraid of piracy that they invest all of this money into servers and DRM instead of producing a game people want. Doing all of this not only makes your game more expensive but also moves focus of development forcing features to be stripped or not included completely. Now you have this smaller developer, which in essence all they did was listen to demand and was able to ship out a much cheaper yet more inclusive, quality product to the masses. No downed servers, no day 1 servers too full bullshit, no drm issues, just a game with qualities people wanted and a product well delivered.
wouldn't say this is exactly a smart thing, thats a really risky way of marketing a game, it only really works if your game is in a niche genre and looks pretty enough to appeal to a mass audience
Sips is pretty much the reason I got City Skylines in the first place
PROTIP: Never delete a dam, even if its not doing anything. I had a minor flooding just now..
I got lucky on my city. I plonked one down for 120 megawatts of extra power, which worked fine for a few months. But the dinguses running it forgot to open the spillways, causing it to completely dry up the river downstream and produce nothing. Since I was on a map where that river split downstream of the dam, and I was using that split off bit for sewage, this caused problems. The split off bit flowed backwards, dragging sewage into the water intake pumps for the drinking pipes, and...yeah. I had no choice. Had to delete the dam.
HAd a little minor flooding but no damage, all ended up well. Normal water flow was restored and I replaced that dam with a nuke plant.

Closest we know is that it sold 1.1 million in the first two weeks
I just bought it, they have more than earned my money. I applaud their professionalism.
I've had a ton of fun with the game so far, the only way its inferior to Sim City 4 is the soundtrack.
But its so much damn fun, I've wasted hours playing with dams.
Can't beat this.
I've actually been thinking about modding the Simcity 4 soundtrack into it
Edit: Yep, it was much easier than I thought it would be, can upload the finished audio folder once I'm done if you don't feel like converting the audio yourself/deciding which piece should replace which

The sax on this one:

The buildup and bookendieness on this

And the holy shit the part that starts at 3:57

The only thing I don't like so far is the port and airport sizes. It reminds me too much of simcity4 where I instantly found a modular mod to fix them.
Job well done.
AAA devs, let this be a lesson to you. People actually fucking notice when you listen to their customers.
Already clocked in 38 hours since it was released, it's an amazing game and definitely smashes simcity out of the water. I think the one piece of advice I can give anyone if they're about to buy / play this game is: Think way ahead for road structuring / planning, it's the one thing that could screw your entire city over.
Cities: traffic management is a more suitable name, very fun though and reasonably challenging, since I played banished just been in love with city builders and cities skyline brings a lot to what was a quite stagnent genre

I wish I did, now my city is a mess made up of 2 suburbs
lol I decided to check out Simtropolis for some Simcity 4 mods because I'm poor and on a data cap, and even they're talking about this game.
Fuuuuuuuuuuck
just splurged and bought a copy
I need a good city builder in my life.

The lights dimmed and lit candles and rose pedals appeared around my desk when it got to the 4 minute mark.
This is nice.
Tjis game is fantastic. It kept me up 3 hours more than I wanted. Someone kill me.

basically have been saving every so often that I have to number versions of a single save to what part of development the town is in, also helps in rectifying issues with the city infrastructure in that you can fix your mistakes without having to start all over again.
dunno if it's just me, but where the hell did this game come from?
it came out of nowhere and just exploded on the scene. it's very interesting considering that the genre could be considered as very niche, and yet it's got absolutely everyone talking about it.
happy for the developers, though!

All I remember is some thread showing off the water physics some months ago and it's peaked my interest since then, so I decided to pre-order it and have had absolutely no regrets.
Great game, one of the three I've ever pre-ordered so far. Haven't regretted a single one. :P
First thing I remember of this game was their "fuck you" trailer to Sim City where it shows a small town on a hillside, then the camera rises, to show a whole city behind it.

It even touted "Play offline" as a feature.

To be honest I expected a lot of traffic management because of their previous game (Cities in Motion). Its nice to see that detail included, its one thing SC4 never did well. Even with the rush hour addon.

It stayed under the radar for the last year until like october where they showed off some tech demos with dynamic water

The devs (colossal order) made 2 transit management games (think transport tycoon) and then decided to up the ante and go full city building sim. The promo for it seems to have all been word of mouth / viral with a few trailers here and there.
It defo worked for me, someone linked me to a dev diary a month or two ago and I have been hooked since.

Former Maxis employee posts about using the new modding tools in the Skylines sub-reddit and got a job offer from Paradox.
