this game looks fun iv seen some videos on it ill think about buying it when theres a sale
Only played SimCity as a child and I sucked at it. Bought this on a whim and quickly realized I still suck. It's fun though, and I'm learning as I go along.
I've actually been thinking about modding the Simcity 4 soundtrack into it
Edit: Yep, it was much easier than I thought it would be, can upload the finished audio folder once I'm done if you don't feel like converting the audio yourself/deciding which piece should replace which
soooo how about that folder ?
I turn this game on with the SC4 soundtrack and it all comes back to me. This is a great game and they did a very good job for a game I only heard about a day before it was released.

Former Maxis employee posts about using the new modding tools in the Skylines sub-reddit and got a job offer from Paradox.
I made a building green, where's my new job huh
I hope ea is listening
The devs (colossal order) made 2 transit management games (think transport tycoon) and then decided to up the ante and go full city building sim. The promo for it seems to have all been word of mouth / viral with a few trailers here and there.
It defo worked for me, someone linked me to a dev diary a month or two ago and I have been hooked since.
Back in the early 2000s, it was pretty extensive for traffic simulation. Keep in mind, SC4 has some wacky commute times. No matter where you try to go, you just get stuck with Americans who don't even want to walk 4 blocks.
The modding community for SC4 has been keeping it very much alive, especially with the STEX, and SC4D's LEX. The entire NAM suite is very nice too. But they pushed the engine as far as it can go. The puzzle pieces can be cumbersome and difficult to navigate through. All the great lots produced too, but so many freaking dependencies and no one can combine them. Regardless, when you got everything set up SC4 is really hard to let go of. Basically because you don't want to spend the next 6 months setting up all the mods again...
Skylines is a very nice game. It isn't SC4 by a far shot, but its got plenty of potential. The one thing I wish it had was regions. That was my favorite thing about SC4 was you had this whole world and you had to make sure they where trading business, and commuting to and from very well. It added a layer of complexity to the game that is still tough to compete with. However, SC4 wasn't that big of a hit and at the time people where complaining that it was too difficult. Which I do agree, trying to push people around in a city of 1M is pretty damn tough.
I've always had this dream that some amazing new company would come along and create better interpretations of popular series. Something like I Can't Believe it's not Call of Duty or Hitmen's Brotherhood.
Having sunk 15 hours into it I'd argue Skylines is that game for Simcity.
Skylines will live up to its full potential once it gets its own NAM
Even just the grading tools in NAM/related mods would be great. The hole-digger lots would be perfect for producing nice tightly-built viaduct trenches for setups like this:

Biggest problem for me with these kinds of mods with multiple tiles was thar they were a pain in the ass to navigate in the menus. You try and find that one concrete slope in a list of junk cluttering the parks menu.
Also those fucking missing dependencies.

Well, NAM was clunky as fuck because it was basically wedging itself into the gaps as best as it could fit. The engine has some major hard limitations and NAM has basically stretched it to the limits. What they've done is amazing, but the interface did them no favours.
Skylines is built to be modded and provides much deeper access to modders.
And, that screenshot's from haljackey, one of the long-term core NAM team members, of a fairly old version of NAM. I didn't even notice the brown box right away.
They sold 500,000 copies now.

Ah yes, while it technically works, in the way that it now uses the SimCity 4 OST, I encountered some unforeseen problems, the music in Skylines is apparently 'dynamic', in the way that it constantly changes depending on where in the city you are, and what's going on there. With the original soundtrack these transitions are basically seamless, but with the SC4 soundtrack it obviously sounds very strange.
I need to fix that, because right now it's really not worth switching the soundtrack
Just bought the deluxe version, and I must say it was worth every single euro.
I honestly haven't sunk this many hours into a game for years... me and my mate woke up with a hangover on Saturday, bought it after reading a funny 4chan comment posted in LMAO pics.
Went to bed last night at 3am playing it still. That shits in my dreams man.
