Hmm... Side effects everywhere.
They're also preventative medicine.
From my understanding the only reason such young children should go through medical treatment is to avoid suicide.
To be fair I don't do tetanus shots because if you cut yourself somehow they'll make you take one when you go to the doctors regardless.
What if the parent(s) disagree with the child receiving treatment beyond therapy at such a young age?
Then the child would probably get nothing but the therapy and grow up less happy and with a body that's even less comfortable for them than they otherwise would have. Again, it's not that rare at all.
By using the logic of one gender specialist fucking things up means they're all untrustworthy, you shouldn't go to the doctor, ever. There's countless instances of malpractice suits against dentists, surgeons, general practitioners, etc who didn't do their jobs correctly.
They're told it's wrong, shameful, sinful etc. and try to suppress it and generally lead unhappy lives until they're free to take control for themselves
I'd be interested to see how many people go through with the hormone treatment and later regret it (especially people of a young age).

How many times have I and others told you very few people end up regretting it?
Jesus it's like you actually WANT them to end up regretting it.

so would I and plus then you'd actually have some form of basis for your arguments (though I sincerely doubt the data would be in your favor)
go find it

the only reason you'd be interested in that is to feed a confirmation bias.

Well if you have a medical issue that makes you want to be the opposite gender and you're going to go get surgery that *may* make you pass for that gender at some stage and *may not* actually be what you expect then surely it cannot all be daisies and sunshine.
Isn't it conceivable that after treatment/surgery someone actually experiences far more of a problem with the way they are received by the public?

p sure that back in 2005 we were as sexist, homophobic, and transphobic as the rest of the internet
They're also preventative medicine.
So they are good because you agree with them, is that it?

You know, ignoring that going through puberty changes your physique and having the wrong physique for your mental status can be damaging to your mentality, that if they look how they feel it makes them better able to act in society(looks the part) and they don't have to deal with the massive hormonal changes twice. Yeah, you are right.

Doesn't that sort of go against the whole preventive medicine thing?

Hey look there is an entire website about it!

it doesn't "make you want to be the opposite gender", you ARE another gender differing from your physiological sex if you have GID

That is the surgery, not the hormone therapy, if you read your source, you'd know that.

Have you ever heard of Kim Petras?
She is a German pop singer. She is also a transgender female.
She insisted that she was a female since age 2, and managed to get HRT at age 12.
She's currently 21 years old and still living as a female, has had the surgery, and not regretting it one bit.
Just because some detransition doesn't mean we all will.
Well if you have a medical issue that makes you want to be the opposite gender
Fundamental ignorance of the issue.

That site has 7 examples and an unverified claim about one center is Serbia. How substantial.
I'm torn over it
on one hand I'd be very concerned about how well a child knows his/her own situation
On the other hand, if you truly have GID, in terms of passing, the better it is to start earlier with hormone treatment. Puberty comes along and the respective dominant hormones (estradiol in females, androgens in males) will have pretty permanent effects on your stature, bone structure, etc.

Come on man, it gets posted every other page in these threads.

Hormone blockers really just delay puberty until they're mature enough to make an informed decision. It's the best of both worlds.

i agree on the second bit - but everybody has to realize that gender identity is extremely rigid after someone's first few years of life, and multiple thorough assessments are taken of individuals to verify that they do have GID and need hormone therapy or blockers

I really shouldn't have to keep saying it since some of these users have already been banned for making these threads into catastrophe zones, but seriously, if you don't 'agree' with transgender people getting medication at a young age that's fine, but please keep it to yourself, especially after going for nearly 6 pages arguing about it in the face of doctors' and experts' testimony. If you have a differing opinion, that's fine. If you want to ask a question in good faith, that's fine. But really, this type of thing is out of control.
So come on, it's just common sense.
Megafan for God Mod.
