I thought the conflict between one's body not matching their gender is what the whole problem was.
i'd imagine that people would feel uncomfortable identifying with a gender that doesn't match their biological sex. keep in mind that you can't control gender identity nor can you control your sex, hence why it causes psychological problems to have a 'disconnect'.
i'm not 100% sure of how much gender is inherent and how much is environmental (cultural), but i'd hope that it's purely a cultural thing. a genderless society would be neat, i'd think.
I'm not a male human, I'm actually a mandarin orange. No one understands my plight.
oh man, its the godwin argument for all trans topics.
Well people go through hormone therapy and what not to appear more masculine/feminine, isn't that the same concept? Your genitals are part of your appearance.
Yeah, but they're not a part of your gender.
Is it really so hard to accept that people want to be called/recognized as X/Y/Z?
I thought the conflict between one's body not matching their gender is what the whole problem was.
For some people that's an issue, for others it isn't.
Genders p complicated, yo.

Actually, Gender is a naturally occurring thing. Gender roles however are societal.

It's disgusting that so many people view this as an acceptable response to the issue of transgenderism, as well as that this sentiment is not treated as the transphobia that it is.
Oh not this again.

FP don't start with "kids can't decide" this is a good thing.
No, this actually really isn't. Children, especially those as young as 8, cannot truly understand the decision they're making. Sex reassignment surgery isn't like buying a toy that you can just get rid of when you get tired of it. It's permanent, and someone at that age just can't make that decision.

It's a joke.

Did you actually watch the video? Kid's pretty smart, and seems to really know what she wants.

Poe's Law I suppose. But given how often it has popped up in Facepunch transgenderism threads it's not really ridiculous to assume that people genuinely believe and agree with that sentiment.
Actually, Gender is a naturally occurring thing. Gender roles however are societal.
so then, the thing i'm wondering is, is the gender part just 'i identify as x sex', and then gender roles are the masculinity vs femininity traits and all that?
Yeah, but they're not a part of your gender.

Then surely neither is having feminine features
I don't care what people do with their bodies I'm just questioning some things

I don't really get it when it's not the whole "brain in the wrong body thing." Like, I'm sure there's lots of people who act the complete opposite of their gender, but still identify themselves by their sex, or transgendered people who's personality still matches their biological sex. After a certain point, it seems less about some biological sense of gender, and more just some fixation on classification. I guess I can sum up what I'm trying to say with this question:
If our language was structured so that there were only neuter pronouns, what forms of transgenderism outside "wrong body" type would still exist?

They don't do surgery until far later, possibly never, usually the only things that are changed from normal development is hormonal therapy/blockers change puberty to the desired one.

there's a lot of things that aren't clearly defined about gender (for the average joe like me, at least), and it's expected that some people care about the way that a society views a gender and others don't, that has to do with how much they want to fit in and how other people view them.

But she's old enough to understand serious depression and has the want to kill herself?
You don't have any idea what you're talking about. My life and many others would've been a lot better if I'd had the resources she's getting from this clinic when I was her age.

if society were free of gender roles, then nothing else, really
as it is now, most or at least many transgender individuals wish to be identified easily (for the most part) and so make an effort to express their gender as defined by the roles it generally has in society
it's amazing how history repeats itself. slavery, women's suffrage, civil rights, etc. we've literally gone through this exact same social scenario hundreds of times. persecuted and misunderstood minority tries to make itself known and gain rights only to be ridiculed and insulted by mainstream society. how people don't see this is baffling.

I'm honestly surprised it isn't bannable yet. It's both a meme and stupider than rocks. Pretty much the kind of thing the mods like to kill with fire.

I honestly don't understand why our existence gets people this riled up.
How is our existence affecting them in anyway shape or form?

Because you're different from their societal norms
lmfao I don't give a fuck you're a down right fucking retard if you think an eight year old is capable of choosing their own gender.
'oh you know it was just so apparent, it's natural, he's just so feminine, it makes so much sense.'
bitch please, that's a fucking boy named Daniel, nigga aint got no uterus
you know
the womanhood organ
that determines
womanhood
[editline]wat[/editline]
I'm totally cool with adolescents wanting to say their the opposite gender or adults, whatever. But I'll never consider you a woman or boy if you don't have the organs. You are not a female if you are not having periods and shit. and you are not a man if you can't shoot up copious amounts of jizz from your ballsack and man-rod.
If you want to say you have the opposite brain make-up, fine, I don't care. I'm not calling you a boy or girl though if you're not.
I better not see you in the restroom either, I know it sounds really mean and ignorant but seriously. An apparent girl trying to take hormones and piss in a urinal so he/she can feel accepted is not cool with me. Why do you feel like you have something to prove with the restroom? Who the fuck cares, there's a boys and girls restroom get the fuck over it and stop trying to make laws to let random ass people that determined their brain is the opposite of their sexual organs use the opposite bathrooms. What do you do in a bathroom? You release shit from your reproductive organ area, shit comes out of your dick or vag or ass. So let's keep the rules strictly based on what you're packing between your legs, not what's inside your brain.

I don't care if wikipedia supports you, I will never believe a three year old can decide that.
I honestly don't understand why our existence gets people this riled up.

This is my theory and I could be wrong, but because unfortunately some people probably never heard of transgendered people, or didn't know the abundance of them until the overzealous "social justice warriors" started throwing around "buzzwords" and "shoved it in our face" as if trans people are some sort of hivemind, and then of course articles appear such as this and it's the first thing they associate it with
And then there's people who think they shouldn't be going through it at such a young age as if they know better than the professionals who say it's ok. Why is it this place puts all its praise into science and medical professionals for everything except when the transgendered are mentioned? If people actually read the sources they'd find out they're not doing anything extreme until they're older
Cant people be at least grateful people are getting the resources they need? It's fucking depressing
you're a down right fucking retard if you think an eight year old is capable of choosing their own gender.
And ignorance of course
jeep eep rates dumb again even though i'm clearly on his side
I don't care if wikipedia supports you, I will never believe a three year old can decide that.
Not just wiki, the information comes from accredited psychologists.
Gender does not equal sex. Disputing this is proclaiming that you are purposefully ignoring people who are specialists in determining these things, and are confirming your ignorance and bigotry.
That was a fast ban.

[editline]hello[/editline]
I'll point this out once before anyone else says "oh you shouldn't be getting sex reassignment surgery at that age": She's not. No one does until adulthood.
At the very most they're allowed to identify as their own gender and when they reach puberty take hormone blockers. At 8 you're not even doing the latter, which is not 'going on hormones' in the first place.
So, please refrain from saying this in this thread and in future threads.
thank you based megafan.

But also, please don't stoke the fire or make it any more contentious than it is. Then we can have a much more pleasant news section.
