I edited, baby. Just what I quoted on you saying about the logical fallacy.
are you still saying that comment was sarcasm also because the money doesn't come from starving children, because the way your government works it isn't a case of 'shall we give the money to the syrians or to the fucking children', because the money was never going to children anyway. i think the US government isn't going to sacrifice its own stability for a goodwill gesture and perhaps the US government understands that the frankly laughably small amount of money they're going to spend on these syrians is better spent on them, than doing nothing else with it.

See is it that hard guys? Just listen and debate, no need to hate. Also I'm sorry I'm really out of it today, and I really don't feel like explaining that one sarcasm question about the "seriously..." sentence.
half the forum is xenophobic, if not more though from what I've encountered. I imagine though that's also due to the fact that a majority are also younger and xenophobia is almost encouraged. (if you're vastly "different" in school, you're usually avoided until high school and even then to an extent)
Okay? Then I guess the mods have a lot of work to do? What point are you trying to make here?
Okay? Then I guess the mods have a lot of work to do? What point are you trying to make here?
That xenophobia isn't against the rules and I see many who are, I don't agree with it personally, but you're not gonna change someone's opinion on something like that over the internet. Also it's not on the list now, it might've been way back when, when there was an actual numbered list of rules, but I don't see anything about it now.
That xenophobia isn't against the rules and I see many who are, I don't agree with it personally, but you're not gonna change someone's opinion on something like that over the internet.
The point isn't to change their opinion the point is that their opinion is not acceptable here. There is no free speech on Facepunch, thank God, so if someone says something garry and the mods do not approve of than they can be banned. Afterwards they either keep their awful opinions to themselves or they do it again and are eventually permanently banned.
Also it's not on the list now, it might've been way back when, when there was an actual numbered list of rules, but I don't see anything about it now.
Not all of the rules are on the list and you know that. I know for a fact that xenophobia can be bannable. I don't see anything in the rules about not being racist yet that is undeniably against the rules
So what does the US even do with refugees? The closest thing I've heard of a refugee camp in the US is a FEMA camp after a natural disaster
Actually, my city is a designated refugee zone, so some of them may end up here. There are non-profits all over the country that take them in and help them find work and a place to live. BTW There are tons of people living in my city from war torn countries and stuff like that, and they all work many of them worked up to being successful business owners providing food and services like they would back home. I have a wide selection of delicious restaurants I would probably never experience otherwise. [editline]11th August 2013[/editline] As far as I know the non-profits that handle these cases are funded by federal and state sources, as well as private donations I do not, however, know the ratios of each. Either way they usually go on to be pretty successful Americans Where they come from really does not matter once they are here. The only abuse of the system that I am aware of(although i'm sure there's other abuse going on they are people after all) is that they receive tax free status on business they start for a set number of years, so they transfer the business every so often to someone new they brought over, to stay tax free. This only applies to sales tax as far as I know, and isn't really doing that much damage(probably)
Why are you sitting on your ass posting on facepunch then? Go help people, you live in the US, what the fuck is wrong with you, why aren't you helping people, you asshole. :v: I agree with maximoon at least on the ideology that we don't need to be helping anyone else out at this point in time, and if we do, it's generally because our gov't gains something out of it. But seriously, don't tell me my country needs to spend its resources and my money to help another country if you aren't doing something yourself, and I know goddamn well you aren't doing anything for the "cause". The whole "I hate liberals for the reason that they're liberals" comment is retarded though, liberals or conservative, you're still just another sheep to me.
Because I have school to do. I'm the VP of a community service club -and- my school's Amnesty International club, and my plans for a gap year consist of going to an impoverished area and building wells and schools and farms and delivering aid for a whole year. I am helping people. It's unrealistic to think that you can be doing it every single hour of the day. Maximoon is a selfish xenophobic racist with a startlingly oversized ego and superiority complex who burns metal together. I am doing shit myself, again. I've volunteered at soup kitchens several times over the summer. A friend brought me down to Austin on the weekends to take part in projects to help the homeless. Sheep? You're a dumbass. Please, tell me what you have done. Why are you sitting on Facepunch? I've given you my reasons. I help people more than the average 17-year-old high school student. It's one career path that I'm seriously considering. [editline]11th August 2013[/editline]
Probably accepting them just to put them into concentration camps.
Yes, the US is literally nazi germany and hitler and we are spending money to transport Serbs that we support in order to gas them and make them work on pointless manual labor tasks. Absolutely. You're not retarded, you've solved the government's evil plot. Well done, nobel peace prize. [editline]11th August 2013[/editline] Anyways, let me go fail out of high school so I can help the homeless and starving, excellent idea, zach1193. Please, christ, if you're going to try to support a xenophobic dumbass, at least read the comments I posted throughout the thread that demonstrated how I -do- help others. I'd honestly like to know what you do to help others, because you seem to be opposed to the very concept.
Isak I am all for community service but don't brag about it. That kind of defeats the purpose. Would you like me to run through all the things I do for community service?
Isak I am all for community service but don't brag about it. That kind of defeats the purpose. Would you like me to run through all the things I do for community service?
I'm not trying to brag about it, the guy's just an idiot. I mentioned it in the thread earlier. He doesn't read it, and tries to make me look like an armchair activist. I don't mention it often - hell, this is the first time I ever have on Facepunch, but that comment just pissed me right off. Seriously, I don't even do very much community service currently, but when people attack my character, I'll defend it.
holy fuck more immigrants and I bet you anything they're gonna be on government assistance
oh what would America be without immigrants
Part of what used to/makes the US so great as a country is that it can take anyone, from worse parts of the world and give them a chance to start over and make a new life as an American. How much that still applies today is debatable but our country was BUILT on these kinds of people, and while I wouldn't want a MASSIVE surge of immigration to the United States, it is vastly hypocritical of Americans to be constantly turning their nose up at people trying to find safe haven in what they consider the best country in the world, or at least in comparison to wherever they were. Not trying to be patriotic but it's like people have forgotten that idea. What about the thousands of people we personally evacuated from South Vietnam in 1975, and then made most of them US citizens (although I will admit life in the refugee camps was not good)? Look at Arnold Schwarzenegger's photo after he got his citizenship: Does that not look like the happiest man in the world right there? Now granted, he's not from a place like Syria, but you'd have to be blind to not know that he worked for that, just like most of these Syrian refugees would. This is kind of rambling, but the point is, if they're ecstatic to be here, they're willing to work and contribute to society, then shit, why are we getting upset about turning them away? Would you have the same opinion of your Irish/German/Italian/Russian/Polish grandparents?

And you didn't need to tell your age, it's painfully obvious from the way you respond to things you dislike. Also the fact that you easily have no problem explaining all the good you do and listing off what you've "accomplished" says to me that you're doing these good deeds for the attention, at least partially, and that's just fucked up. Also way to be a hippocrite, as I already changed my position on this topic, if you had read my other comments... wait is there an echo in here?
So what does the US even do with refugees? The closest thing I've heard of a refugee camp in the US is a FEMA camp after a natural disaster
The US accepts one of the largest (I think THE largest) amounts of refugees in the world.
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "
Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" -Emma Lazurus, The New Colossus,1883.
Syria is really a fucked country. It will take decades for it to bounce back from this if it even does. Is it even possible for a country to completely collapse? Or would Russia back it up in the end?
Syria is really a fucked country. It will take decades for it to bounce back from this if it even does.
You think too much about the short term. Europe was fucked up after ww2 but it got on its feet because of smart policies like marshal aid and low war debt caused by allies loaning stuff to eachother instead of cash (bankers cried because it was in the end giving away free stuff which would be obsolete when returned but for the economy it was better). Middle Eastern countries where american policies are enforced on the other hand will have a much harder time getting back on their feet due to bad (neoliberal) policies which result in a powerless democracy, ruin of public institutions, privatization and laying off state workers (the country is now full of angry, unemployed people, many of whom are also ex soldiers) and outsourcing projects and profits to american companies. The sooner the war ends and the faster money and work starts rolling back in, the faster Syria will recover, the end of the war is only the beginning of a road that might take some decades but most nations have more or less been there.
Is it even possible for a country to completely collapse? Or would Russia back it up in the end?
It might end up as multiple countries.
#2 Please go find this land where you can pluck jobs off of trees.
North Korea. I don't think you can be unemployed there for long. :v:
Man this thread was so entertaining, really made my morning. You're all beautiful and I love you all.
I'm not trying to brag about it, the guy's just an idiot.
have you ever flipped burgers dude its fucking hell as a job
From experience working fast food ain't all that great but man you picked like the worst example from the list of shit to put up with in that environment. Flipping burgers is easy as fuck lmao. Now let's talk about replacing the oil from the fryers...
Yeeeaaahh..... I'm gonna retract all earlier statements and agree to not drink and post again. My apologies. [editline]Edit:[/editline] That being said after reading back over this thread I now comprehend what you guys are saying. I need to revaluate my morals
