This isn't anything new https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_things_named_after_Barack_Obama#Biota [editline]19th January 2017[/editline] Obama has a fungus named after him, so a moth ain't nothing special.
that makes sense, since he's such a fun guy
More like he's such a fungi :v:
And here I thought scientists were a stoic bunch with no interest in politics. It's gonna be an awful four years when this kind of pettiness abounds.
Yes, it's quite petty because it's mean to Trump. /s I don't think their intent was to have it be something derogatory. Not to mention having something named after you is always sweet.
gonna start calling ebola whichstrider
Yeah man, I'll take it.
I wish more scientists were more involved in politics
And here I thought scientists were a stoic bunch with no interest in politics.
And you based this on what, exactly? Scientists are still human beings, who would have a political affiliation because they still have to survive under the same legislation as everyone else. Not only that, there are many scientists whose livelihoods depend on government grants, or are part of charities which require legislative help.
It's gonna be an awful four years when this kind of pettiness abounds.
I congratulate you on finding a way to feel superior to a man with a PhD based on political views you think he has. He's also a Canadian in Canada. The chance that this was a serious jab at Trump rather than a whimsical aside is pretty much non-existent.
Sonic causes cancer confirmed

The gene has been linked to a condition known as holoprosencephaly, which can result in severe brain, skull and facial defects, causing some clinicians and scientists to criticize the name on grounds of it sounding too frivolous. They point to a less humorous situation where patients or parents of patients with a serious disorder are told that they or their child "have a mutation in [their] sonic hedgehog".
More scientific things should be given silly names. Might take the edge off the diagnosis, or might not.
~Mothman~
It's the best moth. The greatest moth.
how yuuuuge is it? As big as a luna?
And here I thought scientists were a stoic bunch with no interest in politics. The reference here is just to the fact that it looks like it has his weird yellow toupe any way, it's not particularly political.
I swear I've seen literally everything under the sun called "petty" the past few weeks and I don't know why
Probably because of the presidential campaign. People are attacking whoever they don't like with insults that are simply petty. Especially regarding Donald Trump, especially on SH :v: I mean, most of the anti-trump posts aren't even handwaved guess-arguments. It's mostly "hah orange skin hahah" or "he won't know how to set the thermostat" or shit like that. Which again would be fine in a comedic sense, but people seem to shoehorn this anytime there's anything related to Trump, even in a serious tone. Not a huge fan of Trump, but that is what I'd call petty. It's not helping anyone and is obnoxious at best. Although, obviously, it's not just towards Trump.

I'm going to be so petty you'll have to pay me to listen to Free Fallin'.
And here I thought scientists were a stoic bunch with no interest in politics. Not to mention many scientists are idealistic, a big reason they enter the field is because they believe they can improve society. That line of thinking again is more on the liberal side. Not to imply that conservatives don't want to improve things, but they often don't care to improve them for everyone, only select groups who they believe earn it. But yeah I'd say it's mostly the fact that Republicans have taken to anti-intellectualism by arguing against known scientific facts and even harassing scientists, so of course many scientists don't associate with them.
At the tiny dick clickbait: Can confirm that its mainly only clickbait crap sites sith the tiny dick line. My FB feed is filled to the brim with these things being shared by people I know. Even the ones that claim not to be saying it for political reasons which is bullshit since it's pretty fucking obvious that they're saying it for that since no shit the dick is small, the entire moth is only ten millimeters long.
