It's Afghanistan, can't they just cook hamburgers on the dash of their Humvees? [sub]this is a joke, do not take it literally, because I know someone will[/sub]
This isn't even about mres, this is about the field mess halls, which serve food that is actually not made in a factory/industrial kitchen.
no shit?
you make american soldiers seem like weaklings
I don't see how I am, Soldiers are always doing stuff that taxes them to the limit, and me saying that it is nice to have those meals doesn't detract from that. It is just something that makes things a bit better over there. Not necessary, but just one of those things where you can take your mind off the stress for a few minutes while enjoying some good food and company.
Wow. Is it really that weird to not eat hot food all the time? I normally only eat hot food at dinner.
must be an american thing i bet if SKEEA here popped over to visit his centeral european / british counterparts he'd probably be laughed at for complaining about this instead of the terrible prospects for veterans or - y'know, the IEDs and gunfire?
no shit?
What you said I misinterpreted as you thought they were making mres that require external heating to heat the food up, rather than the heating packet/element things that come with them.
MREs are decent. If you get the egg omelette you might as well shoot yourself though...

Just because I think it sucks that one of the niceties is going away doesn't mean that I automatically don't care about anything else. Also it is no use to complain about IED's and gunfire, that stuff is commonplace in a combat zone. It just comes with the territory. You learn to just drive on. Also, there are plenty of other nationalities' troops that are being affected, and I most certainly have heard them complaining about it too.
Bullshit. The chow hall was always packed to the gills during breakfast. Mid rats were lower attendance, but still good for odd hour workers.
Anecdote
Anecdote
It was like that at every FOB that I went to. Every one. Salerno, Shank, Gardez, Bagram, Coleman. So it may be an anecdote, but I think it holds water due to how many other soldiers can corroborate.
why not have soldiers cook and serve meals?
What you said I misinterpreted as you thought they were making mres that require external heating to heat the food up, rather than the heating packet/element things that come with them.
I was just merely expressing a non-heated MRE to me personally is decent, I'm fully aware of the heating element. The article goes on to saying in the addition of packaged food too.
Does this mean ice cream for dinner?!
why not have soldiers cook and serve meals?
I wonder this constantly. They do it in the rear, why not on the larger FOBs on deployment? It's their job, 92G, Food Service Specialist. It would save a lot of money to be sure. The government went crazy with contracts, it seems everything is done by contractors over there.
what should we give people who put their lives on the line how about a cold piece a pizza forget abbad it
I was just merely expressing a non-heated MRE to me personally is decent, I'm fully aware of the heating element. The article goes on to saying in the addition of packaged food too.
toss me a can of chef boyardee, I eat that stuff straight from the can.

Also I don't like MREs, having to live off those things after the cooks ran out of food sucked. I only ate them because I had to.

Then again all our armoured vehicles have boiling vessels in them as well, so we can make a brew or boil up water for rations pretty anywhere.
How about you cut back on the CONTRACTORS, and let ACTUAL SERVICE MEMBERS DO THE FUCKING JOB
Mercenaries: Kitchen of Destruction
Mercenaries 2: Cooked in Flames
don't care chilly and beans MRE for life
you make american soldiers seem like weaklings
what the fuck they're human beings they deserve a sense of normalcy and proper meals helps give them that
you make american soldiers seem like weaklings
Is not about "Oh, those soldiers are pussies because they want to eat hot food in a warzone". Is about keeping morale up. A unit will be more motivated to fight if they know that they have access to good food once they get back to base. It doesn't helps that combat rations aren't very popular among servicemen (Bad taste, gastric problems, diseases if they are badly made...)
please don't tell me that there are people who can deal with a firefight but not with cold food
"you can kill people with your guns, what do you mean you need clothes and entertainment and fresh water and showers and human interaction??????" what the fuck are you talking about you dumb idiot
I mean why the fuck is this even an issue? They still get hot lunches/dinners - it's just the breakfasts that are cold even I normally have cold breakfasts
because i somehow fucking doubt you're out there running drills and training 24/7 in the middle of a desert
Two of my buddies and their squadmates wrote "FUCK YOU" on the side of a mountain on their spare time because of this. They are using campfires now, sending them both canned shit from time to time when i can.
MAYBE THEY SHOULD CUT BACK THE NUMBER OF TROOPS TO ZERO INSTEAD...
This is kinda stupid cause they can just make a fire an boil em I'm pretty sure.... Or is that IMPs?
