53 billion for that small model train? wow
sounds like a quote from bill oreily glenn beck or rush limbaugh
53 billion for that small model train? wow
It's a limited edition Railworks set.
Obama really has been reading my letters I sent to him. :)
We need money, lets spend $53 billion on a high speed rail plan
We need money, lets spend $53 billion on a high speed rail plan
I am pretty sure they calculated this to make more money then it costs to build
53 billion for that small model train? wow
What is this?! A train for ants?!
Oh I forgot we had a spare $53 billion dollars laying around to use for a rail system after we scored big time in our war efforts and amazing economy.
You do know spending is the best way to get out of a financial crisis right
I like Obama. Coming from the UK, have there actually been any bad words against him? He's actually focusing on making the states an even better place. Hope I can go there some time :unsmith:
have there actually been any bad words against him?
Are you serious?
I want this in the UK, the trains I use to take to work were extremely shit.
Finally? Even Asia is ahead of America in terms of transportation.
I have a feeling the auto companies will destroy this plan, just like GM did with most mass-transportation in cities.
I have a feeling the auto companies will destroy this plan, just like GM did with most mass-transportation in cities.
Even though i'm almost on the other side of the world, I might just off myself if they succeed. Having grown up in England, seeing the dilapidated Victorian-era infrastructure (though it has to be said, that's not the case all over England, of course) in various states of disrepair, the thought of people actively trying to keep it that way would be too much to take. Finland's is somewhat better, but mainly because the country is mostly flat anyway so you only see rails, as opposed to crumbling brick bridges. Incredibly silly for many reasons, I know. Just the short-sightedness of such a potential sabotage effort really gets to me.
This is good, the amount of jobs will stir up the economy a bit.
Yes yes yes. And yes
Nobody will use it. These projects have been tried and failed in the US. Other countries, yes it would work. But not in the US. We like to drive.
Calling republicans rejecting it.
http://www.theonion.com/articles/republicans-vote-to-repeal-obamabacked-bill-that-w,19025/
High-speed rail is a good thing. It allows for massive commuter towns. Also, it's over six years. So it's a spare 10 billion, which isn't much considering the benefits.
This. High speed rail systems are awesome. They can drastically decrease traffic as well as significantly increase the range people can regularly travel to reach work. This is awesome and almost certainly worth the money.
53 billion for that small model train? wow
It was manufactured by the RailWorks people.
Good, from what I hear America's public transit is a steaming pile of shit.
Doubt this would make it any better.
Doubt this would make it any better.
Yeah. Obviously a high speed, low cost mode of mass transportation won't help the public transit system at all.
I am against this because terrorists might hijack the high speed train and crash it into a skyscraper! It would be 9/11 all over again. [editline]9th February 2011[/editline] Also the rounded shape of the train makes me feel insecure about my sexuality.
Doubt this would make it any better.
You have no idea how useful good public transit is for people without cars.
Doubt this would make it any better.
if this was dubya's proposal you'd be heralding it as the future of transportation
A lot of people in this thread need to read about the "New Deal". Basically you have to spend money creating more jobs so you get more money in return. It's how the US got out of the great depression.
Wow a decent looking train in America for once.

Holy fuck, that's nearly as expensive as all the railworks DLC.
I want this in the UK, the trains I use to take to work were extremely shit.
They're not that bad where I am, they can be late a minute or two sometimes (which doesn't matter since msot of the time I'm just going out with friends). Though it broke down at one point and I was stuck in a tunnel for an hour in the dark, with a crying baby right by me, I was quite pissed.
