It's similar to trying to run on a broken foot
It can be done, but it's only going to hurt more over time, and eventually you've gotta fix it
While some of the cuts aren't popular, we need to cut cash to get out of the deficit; you just can't function in deep debt
I never understtod why governments think grinding the economy to a halt when it's already in a fragile state is the best way of getting out of recession.
England's fucked, they are cutting housing benefits which is the equivalent of taking away a lot of peoples homes. Bailiffs getting shot or beaten to death for trying to evict people from their own homes is not a strange occurrence, and now they are cutting the games industry, this directly effects me (at the bottom) and the higher ups equally.
The lower/middle classes CANNOT take any more cuts.
Yeah, uh, there's like no money left for anything

lowering corporation tax and new business tax while lowering public spending is the exact opposite of grinding the economy to a halt
if anything the cuts in this budget are more socially impacting than economical
What fucked me off was the banks. Either tax the banks or look us in the eye and say "Bankers bought us loads of shit so we're letting them off"
Don't make them pay a token £2bn that's a fucking drop in the ocean.
I'm not sure I understand this, will this mean UK-published games will become more expensive or just stay as they are... What is going on?
how about we stop giving footballers millions of pounds every year. the fuckers don't even deserve that much money.

How about you tell the fans to give their money to charity and not watch football.

We? Footballers aren't paid by the taxpayer you idiot, they are paid by the club they play for who get their money from fans and sponsors.

It means that game developers have to pay normal tax rather than a special lower rate

Did it use to be at a lower rate?
Did it use to be at a lower rate?
no

If I was in charge there would be some different decisions, but yeah we need money and it doesn't come from nowhere.
Did it use to be at a lower rate?
No but Labour promised it in March. Also, the Lib Dems mentioned it before the election too (but obviously they don't give a shit about anything they once said because they're too busy holding the collective Conservative dick in the bid for some small amount of power).

Well, we can always march on Parliment when home losses escalate.

So nothing was really was lost? Nothing's gonna change? Alright.

Something was going to change for the better, and now it's not. So the UK game industry will continue to grow at its meagre pace in comparison to other nations.
I don't care because I'm an American who cares only about himself.
Thanks for that useful and totally relevant comment.
It doesn't directly affect anyone who isn't in the UK video games industry.
Actually it affects us all in the same way because it means that, no matter where you live, British-made/published video games like Burnout and Grand Theft Auto will be made on much stricter budgets than those made in countries like Canada.
So think before you post another meaningless comment.
Capitalist bastards, what a load of bollocks.

Yeah I'm sure the video games industry would function much better in a communist society.

:downs:
Well, at least developers would have greater control over what they make in a communist society. None of those dirty bourgeois publishers to worry about :)

Are you serious?
also let's not let this thread devolve into a capitalist vs communist debate
The games industry in Britain is big, it won't be a massive death knell for them, they can stand on their own two feet.

Yeah cause communism would clearly win in any argument.
