Too many people think teaching about guns is politically incorrect these days. Talk about a gun in school!? Suspended!
Well. You know. Where i'm from, It's reserved for Military training... For obvious reasons.

Military people can still be retards when it comes to firearms safety. Trust me, I have seen some dumbass shit that Soldiers have pulled with weapons. For example, stuff like this:

It is much better to teach people how to be safe around firearms and not restrict that knowledge.
Teaching a class on guns and gun safety and bringing a loaded gun to that very same class.
My head hurts.
he was demonstrating what happens when you don't handle guns right
give him a raise for this A++ 10/10 demonstration i'm sure the kid he shot learned a thing or 2
He clearly was showing how to not to use a gun

I once saw a guy try to suck a load of dirt out the barrel of his rifle after he stuck it into the mud by accident. It was loaded with blanks, but that can still be lethal.

I think almost everyone should know the basics of firearm safety and how to safely handle a firearm, at least in the USA where guns are everywhere. My point was that too many people have a great resentment toward firearms and are against teaching safe handling because they fear weapons, so this could lead to a dangerous situation when someone who's never been exposed to a firearm suddenly has the ability to handle one.

I'm not especially comfortable around guns in general, because I generally dislike close proximity to things that could make my skull blow up, and the amount of blatant mishandling of weapons you see in the military, especially in basic training, is enough to give me phantom headaches! People not clearing their weapons properly after visiting the range or doing field exercises with blanks (even blanks can be dangerous!), holding their weapon by the barrel, even pointing it at people as a joke. It is mighty disconcerting! It's less of an issue after basic, but you still get your Careless Carls and your irresponsible goobers who think they're being funny by playing cops and robbers with a real assault rifle. Where I went to basic didn't exactly have the best track record for gun safety, either. Just a few months prior to my stint there was an accidental discharge of one of those massive .50 cal tripod machine gun jiggers that killed one private and tore the arm off another!
wasn't it a ricochet? He was aiming at a desk, not the student. Still, a stupid thing to do to have it loaded.

Maybe, but i'm wondering if it has something to do with him being 73
I don't think a safety instructor of all people would forget making sure a gun was loaded or unloaded unless old age had something to do with it

I'd probably distance myself very quickly from that person if I witnessed that :v:
Also, ew!
[editline]an edit[/editline]
I'm really uncomfortable around most kinds of weapons though, especially if I notice someone is careless or distracted.

This is one of the bigger reasons I'm trying to slink out of my conscription.
I am not really into the whole deal of spending six months in a place where my well being is under the threat of other peoples incompetence and stupidity.
And I don't want to go to court if somebody compromises the safety of others and gets the shit slapped out of them in return.

Something that sounds scary and should probably banned. :downs:

With the amount of guns in this country, we honestly should have more education regarding firearm safety.
I'd say its common sense.
Don't put your finger over what makes a gun a deadly threat unless you are sure and about to shoot. It's a no brainer.

Also don't point it at anything you don't intend to shoot.
It's common sense for people with more brain cells than fingers, but some people just should not own a gun.
The general sentiment among pro-gun people such as myself is that anyone that is not reasonably believed to be dangerous or demonstrated violent intentions should be able to own a gun. The fact of the matter is, if you don't know firearm safety, you've got no business even being near a gun, much less owning one. Accidental shootings kill and maim far too many people every year. Hell, I've had accidents myself. They're scary and they happen when you least expect them. And I was drilled on safety from the age of 5 by my father. It can happen anytime, anywhere.
I've always wondered if that was planned or not, he was really pushy on saying that it was an unloaded gun, seemed like he was trying to convince people it was, I'm thinking that it was a blank that was fired.
It wasn't. He shot his foot and was expelled from Gun Safety lessons.
I grew up with guns and my dad would hammer gun safety into my head all the time when I was a kid. He even made a written safety test that he made me take before he bought me my first rifle haha. I'm gonna do that to my kids and gunowners who are parents should educate their children on firearm safety too, so that it sticks with them for life and they can teach their kids and create a smarter generation of gun owners.
Lucky you!
I had to teach my father firearms safety so he wouldn't do reckless things like accidentally point a loaded rifle at the range master and get us kicked out for the day :v:
Every training course around here kicks you out of the class if you bring live ammunition into the classroom. You leave the ammo in the car until it's time to hit the range for the shooting portion of the course.
I actually think that a gun safety class or even a general "dangerous objects" class should be mandatory in high school.
