calling someone who is suffering from mental illness and having irrational thoughts as a result of it a "miserable son of a bitch" seems like an asshole comment
I'm sure his soul is very offended for being called a miserable sop - which is actually a very apt description of him, seeing how he committed a drowning suicide. But I don't think he'd be too keen on being called mental either.
Oh my god just give it up please. JDK is firmly rooted in his opinion you aren't getting anything by telling him he's wrong, neither of your opinions are going to change.
Ok let's play a game. Go find a river that's 54F. - Check Now jump in with the clothes on your back and nothing else. - Check.. Well, you might have your firefighter uniform Now try and drag, let's say, a 180 pound weight the size of a man out of the water. - Not check I guess if he's a dwarf, really thin or a female/both? Also the weight is kicking and punching at you. - He might have been suicidal according to OP, and I guess he don't want to be saved. If he was already dead, then he wouldn't fight too much. So maybe not check.

i would of tried and save him anyway
I like how the title of this thread is "Fire Crews Watch Man Die" and OP is telling people not to blame the firefighters. Next time try something like "Fire Crews Can Only Watch as Man Kill Himself in San Francisco Bay". With the title you have, you're making the Fire Crews look like a bunch of terrible people when it's not their fault.
Welcome to the Facepunch Gazette.
So is calling the firefighters terrible people for not doing something they couldn't do.
once again, forget the firefighter part for a second. as human beings, they should've at least TRIED to do something. if I was just some bystander out there I would've at least tried to help the person and I've never called them terrible people
I'm still gonna blame the firefighters because they did nothing to attempt to save the guy, and that's despicable their job nature involves saving others, and they failed miserably in this case
He was suicidal, the firefighters would have waded out there, putting themselves at risk of freezing too, and try to help a suicidal man who, most likely, would have attempted to resist it and go on with killing himself, all so that a suicidal man would be saved so that he could kill himself the next day, and the firefighter would lose his job. And just so you know, not everyone that commits suicide is suffering a mental illness, some people are just genuinely miserable with their lives, and see killing themselves as a better choice than living in misery every moment of their life.
If I was there, I woulda tried to save him.
once again, forget the firefighter part for a second. as human beings, they should've at least TRIED to do something. if I was just some bystander out there I would've at least tried to help the person and I've never called them terrible people
You're calling them inhuman right now.
If I was there, I woulda tried to save him.
but it wouldn't be worth it because he was just some miserable son of a bitch :downs:
If I was there, I woulda tried to save him.
Breaking new!!:"suicidal man drowns as well as wannabe hero!"
You're calling them inhuman right now.
nope I'm concerned that they along with all the civilians didn't do anything to help another person out
nope I'm concerned that they along with all the civilians didn't do anything to help another person out
Because they, as relatively smart persons thought to themselves: "Oh man, I really do want to help this guy, but if I go out there, I'll just die myself".
nope I'm concerned that they along with all the civilians didn't do anything to help another person out
It's not a simple matter of just helping someone, it's a high-risk and low chance of reward action that likely may have resulted in a second drowning. Heroes are nice and we need more of them, but when you're more likely to exasperate the situation than help, why get involved?
Yeah, I thought he died in hot water. I just realized it was in Fahrenheit after I read "Cold water gear"
nope I'm concerned that they along with all the civilians didn't do anything to help another person out
Personally, I'd be more concerned if there where two dead bodies floating in the water because some well-meaning but stupid person went in after him and became a victim themselves. Could a mod please change the title to "Firefighters unable to save drowning man because of budget cuts".
Could a mod please change the title to "Firefighters unable to save drowning man because of budget cuts".
that's not really an appropriate title. they couldn't save him because they refused to do anything and decided to watch him die.
that's not really an appropriate title. they couldn't save him because they refused to do anything and decided to watch him die.
you are stupid
you are stupid
Yes, he is. JDK, this should be your new avatar, it would be much more fitting then your current one.
that's not really an appropriate title. they couldn't save him because they refused to do anything and decided to watch him die.
I refuse to do anything and decide to watch you being wrong.
From the title I thought the story was about some fire fighters that acted like complete dicks and would'nt save some guy. Like that story from a while back where a fire crew let someone burn to death in his house because he hadn't donated to the station.
I don't give a shit if they weren't trained. they should've at least tried to save him. if I was just some bystander out there I would've at least TRIED to help the guy
its against the law, they are government workers.
From the title I thought the story was about some fire fighters that acted like complete dicks and would'nt save some guy. Like that story from a while back where a fire crew let someone burn to death in his house because he hadn't donated to the station.
Pretty sure no one died in that story, and it was a fee he hadn't paid to the county or whatever.
I don't give a shit if they weren't trained. they should've at least tried to save him. if I was just some bystander out there I would've at least TRIED to help the guy
Thing is though, you weren't there, so you can't make that judgment call.
that's not really an appropriate title. they couldn't save him because they refused to do anything and decided to watch him die.
That title is entirely accurate because that is, in a nutshell, what happened. Where do you get off saying that they refused to help and watch him die? You don't know that. Decided to watch him die. That really is total bullshit, and you know it.
its against the law, they are government workers.
so not breaking some bullshit law is more important than attempting to rescue someone?
