Badly planned? They got three of the greatest studios in animation, period, not just Japanese animation. They also got a director whose previous works were pretty much Halo.

Something terrible just got worse.
I don't have any problem with anime (more into manga though). My problem with this is that instead of trying to give a highly popular franchise a unique look to set it apart from everything, Microsoft decides to use a popular foreign form of animation in an attempt to immediately mass generate hype. Sure, it'll likely do well, but I would've hoped Microsoft would've tried to have been more of a daredevil pioneer instead of going for the easy adolescent appeal gimmick.
