For all we know, this could be the best thing Halo ever made. You're judging it off of a [b]trailer[/b] in which no plot or story is told but simply animation is shown.
With that said, I can't help but feel this is really trying to rip off of Metroid: Other M's glory, if that is the chief as a kid.

By the looks of the trailer, it resembles a lot like of Animatrix. It would be even more, if it would be made by the same guys. Because the work they make are only pure fucking awesome.

Trailer thoughts:
As many people may know, I really hate anime, but I have found there is a small percentage I have found bearable. I also am not too much of a fan of Halo, but the games were enjoyable enough for me to play all three and beat the third one in one night. That all being said let's begin with what I didn't like from the trailer. First, I knew from the start there would be something that looked samurai-ish, first I though they would give Master Chief some sort of Spartan Blade or what not, but luckily all I got was a Brute in samurai armor. Which still makes me sigh and ask 'what the hell?' but it's not too much of a big deal. Second, of course it's anime so, predictably, there's going to women in it (just wait until the have Cortana, let my hatred flow), and by women I mean the dumb-founded-gun-wielding-bug-eyed-dagger-tipped-hair people we're used to seeing in an anime. And obviously she is a soldier, and wears similar looking Spartan armor (I have no clue what it's called). Don't forget, for plot reasons we have got to add some form of relationship and 'drama' for her, as it seems to be shown. Third, the running scene of Master Chief; this is for some reason common in the animes I have seen, he sprints olympically across a wasteland looking place (which also seems to be common in animes; barren deserts, babboo groves, some forest), in addition to that he stares down at the ground as he does it. Continuing from that shot has him sprint then leap, it's odd in the anime style, he leaps (and I can probably guess he's shouting or growling) and attempts to punch a Brute or whatever. I am rather lenient on this sort of thing, but it's an all-to-common thing I see in animes where they seem to over-emphasize a happening, in this case leaping in the air for a punch. Fouth, the Beam Sword (I think that's what they're called) dual between Chief (or some Spartan, whatever) and one of the Elites. This scene also has one of those all-too-common moments in animes where they hold the swords behind them (but Chief has to do it in such a way that makes him look ready for a Michael Jackson homage. Too emphasized.) Fifth, The God damned music. One thing I've always hated about Halo is that they seem to shoving it down your throat that you're a heroic character, and usually heroic music is good, but to ME this just felt like it was trying too hard to make it seem heroic and dramatic. The worst part about it is that it's like we're hearing music for a hero no one cares about (at least I don't much, plus what's with the random flittery flute near the beginning?). Sixth, they put the numbers 1337 on the armor... I cannot even begin to tell how contemptible that is, I will never be able to take that scene/character seriously walking around with 1337 on his chest. But I guess I should of seen it coming considering it's Halo and all.
[b]SIDE NOTE[/b] Why the hell are there scenes of the Covenent being CGI-ish and others not so much? I could be wrong, looks that way though. Also, this better not be freaking Dagobah:

Now you may be say to yourself or are about to post "Well Ben, if you don't like it so much why don't you kindly fuck off so we can enjoy it without you." In response I say; hold up, I'm not finished. Though those are rather big negatives (for me at least) I did happen to notice a couple of things that would potentially be good. For instance, the action. No doubt anime has a talent for emphasis (some lines need to be drawn sometimes) but in this case the action looked like it would be well played out, some cool moments, and extremely detailed. Especially in the first actually fight scene shown in the trailer, it looks detailed, moody, could be well coordinated, and has some snazzy looking effects. Secondly, Anime has really gained my respect on some accounts for their ability in making great looking scenery. The backgrounds truly look dazzling. Now you could be saying, "Ben that's so little positives", well considering how much of it is in the movie and assuming the movie doesn't go too far with the negatives, these positives out weigh the negatives.
In conclusion, Though there are a couple anime clichés in there I don't like seeing, it's rather predictable from an anime. But from those aspects what this movie will make up with is it's dazzling backgrounds, scenery, and well detailed fight scenes. What the movie may lack in over all greatness to some people will probably suffice for all those 12 year old fanboys out there. How ever this movie blows over Master Chief will remain a badass symbol of gamer heroes for years to come.
