You'd have to be delusional to think otherwise, the only reason people went there is because rich people funded it knowing they could gain a fuck ton of money and when rich people living there where settled they realised they could do anything they wan't if they was in charge, not all in charge were greedy cunts but most of them was. Honestly American independence would have been great except your government ended up just as fucked as ours favouring the side of the rich and doing very little in favour of the poor. Similar case with the recent Scottish independence, it would have made fuck all difference because Scotland would have been in the hands of the same greedy fuck heads. And how is that an empire exactly? It's land loaned out and shit by other countries.

We then ethnically cleansed the fuck out of the Philippines. We owned the economy of most of central America for a long time and overthrew shitloads of governments so it would stay that way. Hawaii was overthrown by the Dole Fruit Company and annexed it. We got half the west as war spoils from Mexico. We spread from 13 seaboard states to coast-to-coast by destroying the native inhabitants. We paid for an entire people to relocated to our country so we could have a slave class and then when we got tired of them we paid to establish a colony in Africa to send them back to. I'm not bragging about imperialism, but while you guys were on the downfall America was becoming the new global power. In the end, we conquered two superpowers, which we occupied, and then established a massive economic institution commanding the entirety of the world's banks and economies and markets, we alone have the ability to strike anywhere in the world in mere hours through our massive fleet, and we have more military bases than any other nation spread across the globe. This is after overthrowing tens of governments at the signing of a paper at various points throughout the second half of the 20th c. You country is hardly worth mentioning in global affairs except as "the country that goes to war as an ally of America" or "the country that manages Europe because America doesn't care anymore." Also your empire dissolved while ours it arguably at its height, and while we're fighting over the governments of the Middle East and proxy wars for influence over entire countries in Eastern Europe (Georgia and Ukraine), the last major thing your country has done in terms of imperialism that the US didn't start was fighting over some shitty islands because you couldn't stand Argentina poseer las Malvinas.
