This thread has taught me something very valuable about Walmart. Shoplifting from there is hella easy.
This thread has taught me something very valuable about Walmart. Shoplifting from there is hella easy.
We should just all steal from Walmart and make them go bankrupt.
I must be the only one who looks for a new job if I cannot make enough to support my family at the current one, or am looking for fulltime employment. Like if walmart was really that bad, go look for fulltime jobs instead of applying for protest permits.
So what world do you live in? If you're working in Wal-Mart then chances are that you are unskilled, and unskilled labor means either: 1. you more or less have to work at a job roughly comparable to Wal-Mart in terms of pay, meaning that leaving to seek out another job, and giving up your seniority, is more risky than maintaining the job you have. 2. you need to spend money to get a skill or training that would make you attractive for full-time positions, which is primarily a pre-req now in the unskilled working world. someone with skills is much more likely to find full-time work, and employers do not want to grant the benefits of full-time work to "risky" unskilled workers who bring "less return". Retail jobs rely on employing more part-time workers to make up for a lack of unskilled full-time workers. Because you are part-time at Wal-Mart you do not have the money to acquire a skill to get you a full-time position.
Your anecdote is garbage and unrelated. Any fool with half a brain knows you cant physically touch anyone in the store, loss prevention or not. Even MLP guy knew that so dont blame walmart for YOUR incompetence. That being said if you want a job that pays more than minimum wage you shouldn't have a minimum wage job. I dont expect to make 10 bucks an hour baggin groceries just because I cant live on 7.25. If you're raising two kids you probably shouldn't be working at wal-mart and expecting to be well off. Or atleast JUST at wal-mart.
Wrong, completely wrong. You need to look up on your laws involving shoplifting. Now...as for store policies. Maybe.

Hell I mean no one should expect anything other than when they do 30 hours of work a week they get paid for only 10 of that, that's just fucking silly. People need to just stop being so stupid and go and find better jobs haha. thank god that I'm a middle class young white person who lives in a generally economically stable area that has the financial well being because of my upbringing so that i can go and pay for skill development so I look attractive to employers. If you are just not those things then you shouldn't expect to be paid well and work less than 60 hours a week over 2 jobs!!
Wrong, completely wrong. You need to look up on your laws involving shoplifting. Now...as for store policies. Maybe.
It's not that you legally can't, from what I understood, it's that wallmart doesn't wants you to go after them, because if you as an employee get hurt on the job, trying to stop a shoplifter, wallmart is liable for your recovery costs, which they don't want. It's cheaper for them to take the loss from shoplifters than it is to pay medical bills of employees hurt on the job trying to stop shoplifters.
Okay, I can see their frustration here... but 25000 is just shy of $12 an hour if working full time. That makes my job look pretty shitty unless my earnings are adjusted to compensate, because thats exactly what I make. Hopefully the 25000 thing is just aiming high to compromise a tad lower.
On the topic of retail and supporting shoplifters: Found out recently that Target has a policy of letting it's employee's steal up to the point that grand theft charges can be pressed. I guess either their insurance doesn't cover petty theft, they simply make more money off of it, or something along those lines. So they open a file on you and AP keeps your tab open until that date. found this out when a new coworker was arrested for stealing copies of madden and jewelery to feed her 2 kids because she was hired under the impression that she' be receiving 40 hours/week and got half that now she's in prison and I suppose her kids are with her parents or something for a few years
The back ends of Walmart stores are nearly always ghost towns with 4-5 people max. I used to work a retail job and disliked it just because of the places atmosphere.
I used to do shoplift prevention, I got fired because I confronted a dude who was wearing a gigantic trenchcoat and fedora (I wish I was kidding) and was shoving toys into the inner pockets of his coat, he also had a backpack filled with games from the $1 bin. They fired me for "unprofessional conduct" after I tackled the dude. He spit in my face and tried to run out of the store with a trench coat literally full of random toys (yes, MLP shit included) and crappy Xbox games, did not get very far.
You're not supposed to tackle the schmuck. It's a liability thing. Did you not take your loss prevention training seriously enough?
This thread has taught me something very valuable about Walmart. It's how I got left 4 dead 2, and two xbox controllers!
How the fuck do they expect a father of two to support his family on 1000 dollars a month?
Welcome to murkkka, son. Enjoy your stay. People have been protesting wal-mart for years, their stance is that paying full time employees and hiring non-temp staff will bankrupt them within two years. Meanwhile they keep pressuring companies that sell to them to cut their own buying prices, simply because they're wal-mart. After Sam Walton died the company went to absolute shit.
These are entry level jobs, they were never supposed to be careers and thus never supposed to pay wages to support a family. Back in ye olden days you would work at these jobs for employment experience which you then used to transition to higher qualified -- higher paying -- jobs that would become your career. But we shoved all our higher qualified blue collar jobs overseas and instead focused on the idea of white collar being the only future for an American. This is the result of that short sighted stupidity. The protests should not be for higher wages (which would only push the company to shovel the extra cost back into their prices, thus no one accomplishes anything) but for the return of the higher paying jobs they were supposed to be transitioning to years ago.
I've heard about this before. The economic downturn allowed Walmart to shift to temporary jobs which gives them a reliable workforce without having to worry about troublesome living wages, benefits, or workers rights. Absolutely terrible.
Yeah, with the ACA (Obamacare) coming into effect, a lot of companies have just cut all the full-time workers and hired more part timers; so they don't have to pay as much in taxes. It's actually really fucked a lot of people over.

I recently found myself unemployed and am currently being hired for a job as a nightstock worker at Walmart. Shit. Time to start looking again.

I'd see her fat spilling out from around corners as she tried to catch me in the act, she'd glare at me from other isles and all around try to act like a fat Solid Snake with a shopping cart. So I accused her of stalking me and I haven't seen her since. Ah, Wal-Mart <3

Ah, Wal-Mart <3
I would've started using Wal-Mart for walking exercise then, do like 30 laps around the store while just wandering through every section, hands never leaving my pockets if I was in arms' reach of any merchandise, just to waste her time for an hour or two.
I'm working at Walmart partime (during nightshift were our store isn't open) and making about $1500+ a month. It's decent compared to other places, but when I find another job, I'm out of there! Even for the amount I make, they expect way too much, especially since our store is short 100 or so people.

Like if walmart was really that bad, go look for fulltime jobs instead of applying for protest permits.
Almost no large corporations do full time employment for stock handlers or sales associates. Almost none. Most businesses don't like doing full time because letting an employee go from that position is much harder than part time workers. Getting full time work when just about the only places that are hiring are hiring for part time isn't going to happen really.
idgi why would you work at Wal-Mart for a year and a half if they wont even give you fulltime employment? There's fulltime jobs that you can work from home that pay better and you hardly even need a HS degree. I would know, that's what I do.

If you're working a job and looking for better/more work, but they wont give it to you... then you should be searching for a new fulltime job entirely instead of bitching about how shitty your part-time position is
Wow, a lot of you guys are assholes. Walmart is not any kind of paradise for workers, but at least it's a job. Trying to "fuck" the corporation over will only hurt the workers. I may despise working for them, but I'm still gonna put my effort in to do my job fully. And as annoying as some customers get, there are still a lot of well meaning ones that need help.
shoplifting from wal-mart only fucks over the workers because it gets taken out of their bonuses and shit [editline]8th November 2013[/editline] idiot
Lmfao bonuses and incentives haven't been around since Sam Walton died. When he was alive many employees got incentives if they were college student to maybe help pay for their school. As stated earlier in the thread Wal-Mart went to shit after Sam died.
On the topic of Wal-Fart being shit: I got bitched at once for having a gallon of milk because they thought I was leaking it all over the place... The crap on the floor looked like and had the consistency of mud. o3o
