Bill Nye Evaluates Citizens solutions to the Oil spill

These user submitted videos are moronic. Detailing simple, well known methods for cleaning up small spills and slicks. We have two major problems here, cleaning up an absolutely massive spill covering a very, very large area, and stopping the source of the leak. The latter of the two obviously has to come first. Bill basically had to give the same answer over and over and over again. He's basically just there to tell these people why their ideas won't work in this scenario. Loved his little message at the end, though. Gently slapping those pseudoscientist BP critics in the face. Tired of hearing average couch surfing people criticize the experts who are actually on the scene trying to fix the problem.

And the problem with that is?
People are concerned and even want to try to help. Someone just needed to let them know what's the deal here.
Besides, they are already using straw and hair to combat the spill. Most people probably don't know. Farmers and hair dressers donate their straw and hair for it.

Oh, I don't have a problem with average citizens trying to help out. What I said was more so targeted towards the people who spend their time criticizing the experts. Also, the straw/hair technique is normally reserved for small scale spills (or spills that would be considered small by comparison.) They're using dispersants right now. I'm not going to belittle the people who are sincerely trying to help. I know I'm not the only person who gets annoyed by the people who sit around all day talking about how they could do a better job, though.
Bill Bill Bill Bill Bill Bill Bill Bill needs money.
What are you talking about? Just because he isn't on TV anymore doesn't mean he sits and does nothing.
Man, Bill is getting old. Doesn't sound as young and energetic as he did a little while ago.
Still looks like he did in his "Bill Nye the Science Guy"
and he's still wearing a bow tie :v:
Ending was real heartwarming.
Leave it to Bill Nye to do the Government's job.
Personally I think modified bottom trawling boats that drag a long cloth much like a shamwow on the surface and about 10-20 meters below, then real it in and squeeze it out should do a pretty good job at cleaning the spill. Get a bunch of these and do a pattern like a farmer would do a crop, and it should pick up a pretty good amount of it.
As for the leak itself. I'd say try small yield, non-nuclear explosives to collapse the wellhead. If that fails, stick a pipe into the leak and start pumping concrete into it. Another idea of mine is to blow off the blowout preventer (kind of ironic), the use a concrete and steal drill bit at the end of a temporary drilling rig to cork the hole. The big would have to be larger than the hole by a good amount, and be able to hold up against the pressure.
I nominate Bill Nye for President of Earth.

We can warship the ghost of Carl Sagan.
Good to know that Bill Nye is still kicking.
No! He's being serious!
umm who is Bill Nye?
Science rules.
Inertia is property of matter.
Cookie for those who get it.

Critics will always be there, it goes with freedom of speech.

dispersants ain't up to no good either apparently. They supposedly just make the oil less visable but leaves the shit in the water. Or so i heard.
umm who is bill nye?
bill nye the science guy
Fuck yeah. Problem solved guys, Bill's on the case.
Problem solved. All we need now is Bill Nye to clean the oil, and then have Vladimir Putin come in. He'll strangle the leak shut with his bare hands.
With no scuba gear. :colbert:
Bill Nye's on the job?
Problem solved.
This is so awesome I can't think of a Lord Zedd quote that fits.
Carl Sagan

Yeah, Bill got many kids into science, but Carl made incredible contributions to the scientific community.

But much less people would have cared about said contributions if it wasn't for Nye
