I skimmed through this thread and didn't see this gem posted, so I thought I'd share. This is Marvel today. It's hardly a wonder DC gets more sales.
Let it be known that Marvel used the word "Mansplaining" unironically.
It's a real shame, I really, really loved some older Marvel comics. Like the Civil War arc told through Spiderman's POV.
And their use of the word isn't all that I'm angry about. I'm angry that some hack of a writer was paid to dream up a situation so lazily contrived and so condescendingly written that they could fit the use of that stupid made-up word in a comic that would probably have been a lot better without it, just so said writer can feel a degree of smug satisfaction.
And they don't even have to do this shit, I've been reading A-Force which is about an entirely female team (and female villains) and it's not forced or "feminism!!11!!" at all. It's just a well-written action story by a female author about a team that happens to be all women. The dynamics, drama, and characterization works because it's just writing the characters and not pushing an agenda at all.
Looks like Marvel just needs to can this Brevoort.

And Brian Michael Bendis, and replace the current editors with competent editors so they can improve quality standards for their books, and replace Ike as CEO.
Marvel is LITERALLY about to put out a book where a team of diverse teenage superheroes, instead of fighting crimes and supervillains and saving people from danger, fight social injustice and for the rights of minorities.
I fucking shit you not.

I think its especially telling that this team is also comprised of almost entirely token replacement characters of formerly white character roles who pretty much exist for diversity points. (not that Kamala or Cho are necessarily bad characters but god damn.)
I own the shirt that kid in the back right is wearing...
I'm actually wearing it right now. :v:

I wouldn't be sad if Slott was kicked too. But that's probably just me.
Disney is really doing some weird stuff to Marvel
Hold the fuck up
You know those marvel movies and tv shows that are doing marvel the way it's supposed to be?
Disney. This, however, Disney has no say in at all
[editline]18th September 2016[/editline]
All in all the fear that Disney would ruin marvel that was quelled by them opting to merely puppet the comics creatives ended up ironically causing the opposite
I believe if Disney was actually in full control of print that this wouldn't be happening, they've clearly shown their interest is quality content that pleases true fans above agendas

Hey man kid Nova isn't that bad

I kind of like the version of Nova they have in the Ultimate Spiderman TV show.
That being said, Nova in general is a pretty cool character who can probably be done right as a baby if they tried hard enough.

Oh that version of him was terrible the comic version is much better
I would think Marvel is knocking it out of the park with movies though, which I think is the bigger draw these days.

They actually have had some really good comics recently like All New Ghost rider and the build up to Secret Wars was fantastic. What I read of secret wars was good too. Gwen Pool is also surprisingly good and not what I expected

Don't forget Spider-Gwen as well.

I love Spider-Gwen's costume but I hate her since Gwen should stay dead and the only way to make her interesting is to make her not Gwen Stacey

But... Alternate universe!
That's the excuse for any dead character ever.

Different team. Kevin Feige actually requested the creative committee for the MCU, which was comprised of a ton of the comic companies big wigs, and Feige. They were fucking it up so much he personally went to Disney's CEO and requested he be put in full control, which was granted.
I personally am sure thats why Doctor Strange looks so much less cookie cutter than some of the Phase 2 movies felt, since its the first film put into production/filmed mostly after the creative committee was disassembled.

Spider Gwen was cool because it was an alternate universe filled with weird different takes on Marvel standards, but they keep on having her cross over with the main universe which negates why I found her interesting.
Please give Bendis the boot and fix X-Men :frown:
To think the only outcries IDW has ever had are mediocre crossover events compared to their singular stories because Hasbro wants to sell toys more than tell stories (Combiner Wars and Titans Return), merging ALL 80's toy products into one comic universe (GI Joe, Micronauts, ROM the Space Knight, M.A.S.K., and Transformers), and some shirt-collar-tucking origins of popular characters (Arcee wasn't originally female in her 'Spotlight' story and was a total psychopath but issues fixed that)
You should see what IDW Transformers is doing with gender and relationships. Apparently there was a war waging across Cybertron millions of years before the Great War(Autobots vs Decepticons) happened and a majority of varied Cybertronians evacuated the planet, this included Cybertronians with female chassis. Mad scientist Jhiaxus plucked a mentally unstable character named RC and used as a catalyst to replicate the female form that was lost long ago.
[t]http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/thumb/9/98/SpotlightArcee-ArceeWillBurnJhiaxusDown.jpg/416px-SpotlightArcee-ArceeWillBurnJhiaxusDown.jpg[/t]
Many years later after the Great War ended and the lost Cybertronians are coming back Arcee has pretty much gotten used to it and is less blood-thirsty from the experiments as a result.
On relationships, well...take a gander at this. Before anyone gets pissed, it all makes sense in context and the characters are better for it rather than just being there to sell toys to kids. I'm honestly surprised that IDW isn't selling more comics because they're handling the LGBT angle a LOT more than what Marvel/DC are doing imo.
That depends on writers, I suppose. IDW MLP series are surprisingly good story-wise, which might be because they don't have to make it only for kids. But drawing on some of them is atrocious.
I'm enjoying DC's output more than Marvel's right now, honestly, which is weird because I was always a Marvel girl growing up. They've cancelled two of my favourite of their current ongoings (Contest Of CHampions and A-Force) so that's always nice. Outside of those two, I'd recommend everyone checks out Tomboy by Aftershock Entertainment, it deserves a lot more recognition than it gets.
