Rescue? What? She wanted to die, now she's probably going to be put in a hospital and sedated for the rest of her life. That seems like a really shit fate to me. The fact that the soldier knew that she wanted to die just made it even worse.
Um, no? Christ, do you really think they keep attempted suicide patients in mental hospitals for 20 some years?
I've seen it happen more times than I'm comfortable with. Usually it takes around a month to release them.
In before the woman sues the soldier for getting her head caught in the seat belt.
It's happened

These times you've seen it, are you sure they aren't in your head. My mum tried to kill herself after I was born, she failed and was put away. She's rarely allowed out of the hospital and when she is she's under close watch by an orderly.

Have a heart, takes guts to talk about that.
I'm really not sure what to think about this, I mean you can't really blame the guy for not leaving her. He's in the water trying to rescue this person, and he finds out it was intentional. It's not like as a human being it would be easy to just step back and watch them die, it's what pretty much all of us who aren't /b/-tards would do.

Are you sure your mom isn't put away for being insane? I worked a at a Suicide Prevention center for two months and almost every attempted suicide victim had tried to kill themselves for reasons like a divorce, losing their jobs, breakup, etc. The only people who were ever hospitalized for more then a year were insane people.

I'm sorry for you and your mom. And yes, it's happened. My friends attempts were usually trying while they were in withdrawal, or had fucked their lives up. As soon as they told their orderlies they no longer had any intention of committing suicide, they were usually released.
There still is hope in humanity :unsmith:
