My parents, brother and friends are of the same viewpoint. This country is shit and there is no way to sugar coat this. I am not going to be a "patriot" of a country that fucks it's citizens over and makes slave-tier laws. (forced conscription even for people that are abroad? really?) Imagine working at some big corporation abroad, making lots of money and pretty much living the dream, but you still have your Lithuanian citizenship. Then one day, some fuck in parliament decides "hey, let's forcibly conscript EVERYONE who has a Lithuanian citizenship, and is ages 18-38, for 9 months!". So then you win the lottery and get conscripted. You walk up to your boss and you're like "so yeah, this shit happened". Obviously your boss will be like "lol sorry you're fired.", to which you'll reply "B-BUT THE LAWS IN LITHUANIA STATE THAT THE EMPLOYER HAS TO RESERVE THE WORKPLACE UNTIL THE MILITARY IS OVER!". Yeah, lol, in Lithuania, not here. They are going to fuck over SO many lives, I don't even fucking understand what they're thinking. Fighting for your government is a load of shit anyway, especially in circumstances like this, because at that point, you're not fighting to protect your friends, beliefs, family, whatever; you're fighting for an ideology and agenda that some fucks in parliament have in mind. Fuck those porky politicians.
If you're abroad, what are they gona do if you don't arrive for your duty?
If you're abroad, what are they gona do if you don't arrive for your duty?
Put you in jail. At this point I'm surprised they're not executing people that refuse to be conscripted.
Put you in jail. At this point I'm surprised they're not executing people that refuse to be conscripted.
How can they put you in jail if you're not in the country of origin?
I'll answer since he got himself banned. Likely international agreements/laws, such as deportation.
Or you just won't be able to get back and if you do you get 2 years in prison.
If you're abroad, what are they gona do if you don't arrive for your duty?
Put you on Interpol watch, cops force you to go to your country and do your military stage.
Put you on Interpol watch, cops force you to go to your country and do your military stage.
Can you be forced to travel home if you're a permanent resident of another country but have not yet earned your citizenship there?
God damn it, even though my metabolic disorder disables me from joining the US army, things like this always give me what I would call "civilian guilt." Yes, I know it's dumb; it's just how I feel but not necessarily what I think.
Can you be forced to travel home if you're a permanent resident of another country but have not yet earned your citizenship there?
Yeah, I think. You're still not a citizen, so it should still apply
I respect the guys who volunteer for military but conscription is pretty scary. First of all it's just admitting to Russia that we fear them. And if Russia wanted to take Lithuania, it could do that in a matter of days/weeks. All of these conscripts and the potential future leaders and great minds will just get put through a meat grinder.
When your country is bordering Russia, "admitting that you fear them" is rather irrelevant when they're proving themselves a legitimate threat. If anything it's showing that you're ready to defend yourself.
Absolutely worth it. Anyone who complains about the service is a twat
Bloody stupid statement, I've got mates that serve in the ADF 2nd Cavalry and it's a concurrent theme amongst them all that they are all against forced conscription for the sole reason they'd rather have a guy to their left in a fire fight who chose to be there rather than someone forced to be.
Yeah, I think. You're still not a citizen, so it should still apply
Now THAT is horseshit.
When your country is bordering Russia, "admitting that you fear them" is rather irrelevant when they're proving themselves a legitimate threat. If anything it's showing that you're ready to defend yourself.
But we don't technically have a border with Russia. We only have a border with the Kaliningrad Oblast, which isn't really the same. And besides, we're a part of NATO, I really don't think Russia wants to start any kind of shit with NATO. [editline]2nd March 2015[/editline] All the new sources are reporting politicians going all like "we need to be ready for the war" as if they somehow know for sure that there is war coming, when in reality, it's most likely never gonna happen.
But we don't technically have a border with Russia. We only have a border with the Kaliningrad Oblast, which isn't really the same.
Isn't Kaliningrad Oblast the most militarized region of Russia?
It is your duty as a citizen to uphold and help maintain the very way of life everyone is now so accostumed to, and consequently take for granted. YOU ARE the pillar that society rests upon...
Only as long as you're born with a penis, that is... The idea of forceful conscription is something that really rubs me the wrong way, and always has. I don't feel like its fair to force people by law to spend a year in military service, especially when it's merely because they were assigned male at birth and automatically expected by society to meet the strict criteria of a man and pick up a gun. And I especially don't like how it's being propagated by playing on feelings of guilt as if you owe something to your country. By shaming people into it. Cause if you don't go you're an "ungrateful traitor" and a "twat", apparently. If a country does decide to keep conscription, it should, in my opinion, be at least as loose and relaxed as, for example, in Norway, so that if you really don't want to go, you have the legal chance to say no. Because no matter how much you praise it and defend it there's always people who sincerely find that it isn't for them.
