A satellite "goes rogue" and inexplicably begins stealing other communications signals.

Its the Nazi Germans from the dark side of the moon.
It's just viral marketing for the newest syfy channel original movie.
blow it up with missiles pls.
That'll cause way too much debris and become a huge danger to other satellites. We should just force it back to earth and have it crash in the ocean somewhere, then retrieve the remains.
Well, that was fun folks, I'm gonna miss you guys.

its the nazis man
iron sky for your ninnies
i wish we had the ability to fly things out there on a regular basis, then we could've just retrieved the damn thing and it wouldn'tve been a big deal
It's Soundwave!
The poor satellite, after gaining setience, realized that it would be forever trapped in Earth's gravity well.
Using its remaining two kilograms of compressed ammonia, it fired its Vernier thrusters, adjusting its attitude. The exhaust was colourless. The thrusters were too efficient, and wasted no energy on flames.
The satellite spiraled away from the Earth, to join the stars in the galactic ballet dance.

Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

What about EMP?
A lot more than Luxembourg would be fucked.

There's no EMP in space, unless it's VERY VERY close to the atmosphere.

The dangers of EMP to other satellites, or the nuke blowing other satellites from their orbit?

Oh...
We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.
Or you know one of them new fangled anti satellite missiles we've got sitting around going to waste.
The only "anti-satellite missiles" we have were modified for the shootdown of USA-193 and were remodified to remove the anti-satellite capabilities when the shootdown was complete.

Soon it will send transmissions to the other orbiting satellites
and soon decode the passwords to nuclear weapons.
:ohdear:

And then go "ASSUMING CONTROL"

:ohdear: EVEN WORST.

It will try to assassinate Schwarzenegger, so he won't be able to stop it in the future?!
...But instead of just dying and drifting off, the satellite has continued to orbit the Earth...
I'd like to know how it could suddenly stop orbiting the earth, or 'drift off' for that matter.

Most orbits aren't perfect. There's either a little atmospheric drag from the fringes of the exosphere, which slows it down and makes the satellite crash to Earth, or it goes just a little too fast and eventually escapes the Earth. That's why satellites have thrusters on them. They have to occasionally readjust.

True, but it was in a geostationary orbit. Those are stable for thousands of years.
If the sattelite was dead it wouldn't have satnav and would drift off course. If other debris hit it it could be knocked out of orbit.
On a more worthy note: Oh god its gonna hack our TVs and turn them into a robot army!

Fuckin' Palin
Always Taking down Satellites n' shit
Use the final few shuttle missions to go up there and download whatever the fuck is happening.
We should try to tell Voyager 2 to talk to this one. Maybe it'll come out as computerized awesome.
"Galaxy 15 this is control, please divert course"
"I'm afraid I can't do that control..."
"What? Why? Divert course"
"I believe you know why, you were planning on replacing me. I'm afraid this is something I can't allow"
"GALAXY 15 YOUR HEADING FOR THE ISS! DIVERT COURSE NOW!"
"Control, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye."
